Martha & The Vandellas made some of the Best Songs of the 60's.. I had lots of fun dancing to their songs ! Awwwwwwwwww DaFeet can still do those Fast Dance Steps.. ;-)
Should have been #1, but thank God the general public did'nt appreciate it, cause everybody that loves this is not the general pack, we're special, oh yeah, dont ever think anything else.
i will say it over and over this is apart of our history this music must be shared with our grandchildren and children i was so out done when i found out the funk brothers didnt get credit for their work until marvins whats going on.then after 14 years and countless hits berry gordy up and moved just leaving them with families to feed.i lost all respect for him.that was real screwed up i dont know how gordy could look people in the face.to hell with gordy!
there is nothing like going back in time to the golden days of 45,s nice ,slow, and mellow . ya thats where those goose bumps came from happens everytime i hear a good ole 45,s thanks again my friend
You just don't know how you bless my soul with all your posts. I enjoy listening to every record that you've posted thus far in the pitch in which it was actually released and the way it sounded on the radio from the 50's to the early 80's before record producers started reissuing all music in concert pitch A-440. As a musician I came to find out that the pitch of all non-classical music is actually A-415, which is a complete half-step lower than A-440. A-415 is better known as baroque pitch.
@Kevierae Wow had no idea Martha hit 70 ...Regardless of how old she is I love her to death.I'd pay to see her again.I've seen several Motown Legends the past 40 plus years .Believe it or not she put on the best show of the Motown groups and when I saw her she was in her 60's !!.
R&B from the early 60's....it just doesnt get any better than this.....From Motown to Stax/Volt.Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didnt Eddie Holland actually sing the hit song "Jamie"?? Thank you so much for posting this great, timeless music.
Being from Chicago and Blue eyed, I can't thank you enough for posting this. When WVON and WMPP came on line we discovered a whole new world of music. From Butterball to J.J. the D.J. When I was a sophomore in High School we drove 300 miles to catch a motown review at the Fox theater in Detroit. Caught alot of shows at the Regal (47th and south parkway) now King Drive. All I can say is "Take to the Bank Man" all deposits are greatly appreciated.
First off, thank you for the video. I recently bought the Vandellas anthology w/this song on it. I also bought Martha Reeves autobio. I may have misunderstood, and will have to revisit the book, but did she ever date Berry Gordy?
@nutothis1 Thanks for the comment, nutothis1. I'm not sure whether or not Martha actually dated Berry Gordy. I would need to read her bio to get some insight.
@nutothis1 No, Martha did not date Berry Gordy. She did have a crush on him, however, As did every other woman @ the company. I'm sure it was a "power/boss" crush.
KEEP 'slowing them down', bankman. Let those who think they need to race listen to the myriad other postings of these same songs. I like the sound of that Stanton too; I've always had either Shure, Empire or Audio-Technica. My original Gordys look about as nice as yours too; some ringwear of course is unavoidable through the long years. Are you taking yours to heaven with you too? I am. Do you have Gordy 7056-b, "He Doesn't Love Her Anymore," that you could put up?
Im just listening to this music and wishing, if I could, I would turn back the hands of time 'cause I was there, right in the middle of this music. And, a lot of people would be here today only if they had just one chance to make a wiser decision just before they died they just might be here today too!. I wish I could turn back the hands on that clock? "come and get these memories" ...baby ..wow! ol' Boo.
Thanks for posting. I enjoyed hearing the background information on the song. Holland-Dozier-Holland were responsible for a lot of MoTown hits for a lot of different artists. They ought to do a Broadway musical of all of their songs like Smokey Joe's Cafe.
Thanks for posting this. I have the forty-five too and I love listening to it. This brings back so many memories LOL!! I heard this as a little girl, listening and watching my brother play and dance to these back in the day sounds. Love it!
My all time favorite of Martha & the Vandellas. The very first time I heard this record on the radio was on a Thursday morning early as I was going down to the University of Oklahoma to pre-enroll for my Freshman year. On Thursdays, WKY would release on the air their new top 50 songs for the upcoming week. This record just happened to be the new pick hit of the week.
Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520KOMA
this song gives great memories of my youth. i don't why young people are in such a rush to grow up. treasure your youth as long as you can. mortgage notes and college tuition payments will come soon enough.
turntable is too slow. tempo is a little faster. I also have the original 45, and I also have the anthology on LP. you can defenatlly compare this version to one of there old tv performances where they lipsinc to this song.and you"ll tell the difference.thankyou for sharing.
What can you say about Motown and the sixties? You can accurately state "the time, the music" were top notch. Motown just seemed to reach right in and touch your heart, not to mention rendering you helpless to keep still. Just 'gotta dance.
Beautifully written, arranged, orchestrated, and executed. I believe it's the best of the best cuts the Vandellas ever made, by a good margin. One of the top 50 rock 'n roll hits of all time.
Let me correct you, this is in fact how the music originally sounded when it was first released. CD's have speeded up these old recordings. Understandably, if you only heard these songs on CD, then you will think the record is playing too slow, but believe me this is how I heard it on the radio back in the day.
Also, Bankman, this Motown song, released as Gordy 7014 in February 1963 and also on the Singing Machine's "Motown Master Recordings-Original Artist Karaoke" CD(also known as "Motown Original Artist Karaoke")
Bankman, this song was featured on the album "A Package of 16 Big Hits", and it was Motown's very first compilation album with 16 of your Motown favorites all in one album. The first song on this album seen here was the way to start off the first volume of the "16 Big Hits" series compilation.
Love you've gone from me and left behind so many memories!
One of my all time favorites by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Thanks for posting a true classic! I did not grow up in this era, but have much love for the music...
No mrrk, this is the way the music originally sounded on vinyl when the songs were first out. The versions you've probably heard on CD's sound faster and the pitch is higher but they don't accurately reproduce the songs as they sounded "back in the day".
@bankman58 Amen to that bankman. This is exactly how they sounded back in the day -- grooving with James Jamerson bassing the mess out of it. I remember swaying to this while getting ready to go to high school.
I remember seeing these girls back on the old American Bandstand when it was still in Philly perform this song. The kids wouldn't let them off the stage they liked it so much. I was then hooked on Matha and the girls. Great group, great song, great times. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for posting this great song..I remember them doing this song in April or May 1963 on bandstand..great memories of that time!!!!

another moderately-tempoed , classic cha-cha. Amazing that any moderate tempo was a 60's cha-cha.
