  • Okay, I know it must hurt horses when pulling the main. Come-on! It must. My horse is so used to it though so, he deals. I know lots of people don't understand mane pulling but, It makes a little sense. It creates a neat look. Lots of riders like the low maintenance of a shorter main also. In hunters It makes braiding neater and easier. But, I understand it hurts! lol

  • @MrsSmeeith it doesnt hurt them , they have no nerves on the top part of their nect , like flab just..

  • this is pathetic did you see the horse move its head away it does hurt just becuse he stood up doesent mean it doesent hurt

  • i really dont get why people insist on pulling the horses mane. i've heard some pople say that "it gets in the way while riding." my horse has a fairly long mane and it has never been "in the way". i braid her mane alot so it keeps her cool and it looks better than a short frizzy mess of a pulled mane. pulled manes look stuid anyways...

  • @THismydream12 yes they do there pathetic

  • @THismydream12 in hunter jumper shows you have to pull the mane. you can't braid a horse's mane well if it is not pulled. and it just looks so much neater. i think long mane looks messy anyway. no offence. :/

  • @aa14x2 yes i know in hunter you have to braid. but you dont have to pull their mane to braid. idk what you ride but i respect any riding style. every one has what they like and i like long manes and you like what you like.

  • @THismydream12 i like long manes but as for dressage if you are goign to tye it up or watever it is easier to do it but yeh i love long manes but not over long haha :)

  • Woe!.

     its looks lyk it wood hurt dahh horse:{

  • I have two horses that have Really THick Manes!! Can you give me some advice...Like I am really talking really thick coarse hair. Do I pull it from underneath? I am so sorry if this is a dumb question.

  • We try not to even comb the mane for up to a week after this initial session as the crest may be sore and we on't want the young horse to associate mane handling with discomfort . After that initial session we maintain the mane on the horse with little fuss providing you do not pull too many hairs at one time or from on spot.

  • The key is to maintain the mane pulling along the whole length 1 or 2 pulls in each spot a few hairs at a time on a weekly basis. If you let the mane grow out, say over a winter or through a lay-off or mares pregnancy, you can either re-do the mane during its annual dentistry session or go 1 or 2 pulls in each spot along the entire length of the crest after each work-out or ride while the horse is still warm, as the hair comes out easier then.

  • horses have no feeling in their manes. they do in their tails, but not manes;)

  • whoa,it loooks like that wud hurt!!

  • it does a little but horse's have a high pain tolerance and if you do it quickly and correctly it's not that bad plus horse's aren't that sensitive on their crests.

  • i know.

it just looks like it would hurt, haha

i know it doesnt hurt em, i pull on my horse's mane when i jump on bareback (sometimes)

  • It does not hurt them. Does the horse even flinch?

  • They're not very sensitive in the mane area, but if it's a really thick mane, pull over a longer period of time, like once every other day. And pull it after they've worked out so the pores are more open and easier

  • Practicing aesthetician, makeup artist and equine expert what an interesting combination...

  • thanks it was helpful!

  • It doesnt hurt, BUT,,,if you do a really thick mane, your horse can get sore from this.

  • wouldn't that hurt the horse

  • very helpful
