  • Comment removed

  • Wonder how much those front row seats went for...

  • He's tellin the truth!

  • One of my favorite songs ever :D

  • yes finally this song is on youtube

  • This is so good I cant keep a smile off my face...talk about bitter sweet

  • who can play a song better than the artist who wrote it? eric clapton

  • I like Eric Clapton, but the writer never performed this song. But I can say, Eric Clapton is no Bessie Smith.

  • Damn good pianist, too!

  • Bessie Smiths' 1929 recording of this song is unsurpassed, but there are many excellent renditions and this one is no exception.

  • Excellent music

Blues: optimum músucal sort that already had invented

  • no it wasn't. it was written in 1923. i believe by jimmie cox. popularized by bessie smith.

  • cracks me up everytime i read this :D

  • this is exactly the same as I wasnt some sugar in my bowl by Nina Simone!

  • Don't forget Chuck leavell neither, i'm fan of this guy. Clapton and him should just reccord more songs. Come on create a new album for us :)

    Sorry for my bad english.bYb

  • his best... the music, the lyrics, the solos... actually he is THE best. damn

  • you are aware that this song was written by an unknown writer in the 1920's recession! Listen to Bessie Smiith's version!

  • Not unknown , it was written by Jimmy Cox in 1923.

Bessie Smith went on to record it in 1929.

  • I see wikipedia is fully functional on your computer lol

  • Considering its a website i'm sure it'd be functional whether i had a working computer or not :)

I actually heard about the Jimmy Cox ragtime version while i was learning this version on the piano , not browsing wikipedia - (which is hardly a pillar of facts itself).

  • i know, im only jokin lad lol.

  • One of my favourite ...

i like the lyrics although my mother language isn't English ...

  • what do you thinkof my cover? watch?v=htWolS5ofKA, id be interested to know what you think.

  • his solos always fit so well.

  • Eric Clapton's "unplugged" version of these songs is outstanding. He couldn't have done them any better if he tried. I say "thumbs up" to him and everyone that played with him on this. Very soulful !!

  • Question:

Who first did this song? Is there anyway to be sure? I have a fantastic Nina Simone version from the 60s and have at least heard the Bessie Smith version (sounds like the 30s...and since I have the entirety of her 1920s output the 30s is a decent guess). Can anyone help me?

  • I thought it was Bessie Smith in the 1920's?

  • It's Bessie Smith, I'm quite sure.

  • Bessie Smith

  • Thankfully can't say it worked for me. In my case all my friends seem to come through with shinning colors. Cheers everybody, this is one really beatiful piece of art and a nice tune to whistle to : )

  • That pianist is incredible throughout the whole concert, who is he?

  • Chuck Leavell

  • Wasn't he in Derek and the Dominoes

  • Yup

  • nothing really related to history, it's just a feeling like's many people can live somedays, everywhere... sniff

  • the lyrics are SO TRUE.

  • yes they are

  • That was to jmacphee2 by the way.

  • holy crap whos this pianist hes a damn genius

  • Hi There The Piano Player Is Chuck Levell, Who Has Also Played With The Rolling Stones. As You Say He's A Genius.

  • . . . and was with the Allman Brothers Band, late '72-'75. Remember that beautiful piano solo on Jessica?

  • Thanks I Did Not Know That, aarfeld.

From What Iv'e Read You Know A Lot About Music.

  • I should have added that after the first demise of the Allman Brothers Band in the spring of '76, he, Jaimoe and Lamar Williams of the ABB took their little side project fulltime to become Sea Level (get it: C. Leavell) a great fusion band that ran from '76 to about '83. I believe their albums are out of print but their Best Of CD is still available and sums up the band quite well. It's lovely work.

  • The lyrics are Absolutely True!

  • Written by Jimmy Cox in 1925.

  • wow great spelling on the title there Einstein.

  • dang i cant figure out how 2 play this song!!!!

  • Mike Herberts at helisell's channel sells guitar-videos, and you can buy the clapton-set form him, and you'll learn to play this song, Wonderful Tonight, Layla and Tears of Heaven. You can learn the song there, nomo

  • LOL

  • one of my favorites, eric clapton is the best

  • great song, great performance, gross shirt.

  • it is the 80's, lol

  • Or its 1992 ;)

  • 90s, i think its cool

  • νινα ѕυ мαנєѕтα∂ єяι¢ ¢ℓαρтση νινα!!!!!

  • questa è una verità sacrosanta...il titolo è reale!!!......clapton è .....è clapton......dio quanto è grande!!!!

  • I read a comment made by Eric Clapton on the cover of a Robert Johnson Collectors cd package. He said that Robert Johnson played with the most soulfull sound ever. I would say, everyone step aside. Eric Clapton has mastered this very same sound with this "unplugged" special.

  • Very Well Said!

  • Dude, are you serious? first off i would like to point out that Stevie ray came up in the eighties man. Clapton is one of his main influences. And i don't know how you can say clapton doesn't have his own style, him and hendrix wrote the standards for a whole new style of hard electric blues in the late sixties they created that sound Hes a blues player too man blues is a style of guitar playing they all pretty similar I mean i love the blues, but you cant call anyone blues player a style bitter

  • It's laughable how wrong you are. Most of this unplugged stuff is influenced by his hero Robert Johnson, and if you listen to his covers of Robert Johnson you'll see Clapton completely created his own style. Secondly Jimi Hendrix, and Stevie Ray Vaughn both idolized Clapton. So to say Clapton copied Stevie Ray Vaughn is just ridiculous.

Sorry if I came off sounding like a geek, but, the man's one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

  • do you guys even play music and study history or do you just comment?

  • How can i be wrong? its my opinion! maybe you don't agree with it, thats your opinion. I have never be very impressed with his playing or songs.

  • yeah man, i agree with you sort of. He's not as good anymore ( looks like a banker) but back with cream he had somthing to prove and seriously rocked. Mind you i'm in no position to really judge his playing. Maybe when i have multi million selling records i can say that.

  • you can't play like someone who started playin AFTER you

  • WOW your a harcore dumbass aren't you ?

  • Wow...

  • great song, bravo!

  • te queremos clapton !!!

  • Proof that a good blues guitarist is a one-man band -- baseline, treble, and soul. EC forever.

  • True, just listen to Robert Johnson.

  • brillante
