  • You can't chat online with this..

  • Does it has a Quad core processor with solid state hard drive?

  • ill stick with my flat screen wide screen thankz

  • 20Meg!! wow i wish, no hard disk in myn. I had to disk swap with a boot disk until someone gave me an external floppy drive.

  • @DarkAxi0m

You know there were external hard drives for this thing. But they cost a mint.

  • cool setup

  • Heh. These computers had like 20 Megabytes of hard drive space and that was considered a large amount of space. My home computer system has approx. 4 Terabytes or 204,000 times the space of this computer, lol...

  • @exposed97 same.....

  • Love the great elevator music!

  • how are you supposto watch porn on that?

  • can i have this instead of vista?

  • I wonder how many people watching this video have no idea what IRC even is.

  • And maybe with the last version of Netscape you can surf some basic web pages as well !!

  • Only text chat?? that sucks!! I have intel 486 Dx2, from the same year, windows 95 3com isa network card, opera 7 and I can surf the web!

  • I've long fantasized about being able to browse the web through a filter that makes it appear to be a 1980s Macintosh. Images would be turned into vector line art/wireframes or ThunderScan bitmaps (ideally even in videos, for example on YouTube). All menus would be in Chicago (the original one!).

  • Can it run crys...

    Silly! Macs can't run crysis!

  • @gab1971 Actually, todays Mac can. If you pick the most expensive ones with 1GB graphics.

  • @thecrazyguy129 Macs can't. But if they have windows they can.

  • @gab1971 Oh... yes i forgot that one...

Well.. we have Cinder but... thats rat shit.

  • @thecrazyguy129 Yeah haha.

  • ...............

  • what software do you use to chat on that mac?

  • @campaingboy73 Ircle.

  • gaming rig

  • where did you find that adapter!? I have a Mac Classic and Classic II, and 3 SE/30s.

  • @sp00nix I found it on eBay. Do a search for Asante ethernet and you might find it (it is somewhat rare so you might not).

  • LOL @

    Jewbilee

  • Can you play halo on it?

  • it was built for the future!

  • cool! wat was that music? sounds awesome!!!

  • @DanTromedlov "Love is Blue" by Tony Hatch.

  • what's the name of the song you used on this vid? it sounds so vintage haha

I love 80's technology, it's like when the magic began :D ( specially about graphical user interfaces, i'd love to have a classic mac to play with, though they are very rare in my country :/)

  • 5 people can't chat with Mac Se FDHd's

  • When i first learned computer graphics in late 80's, I used commorde 64. The graphics quality sucks !

  • If there is anyway, I know there is if you dont know it, could you get Ircle off and send it to me? Or do you know where I can download an early version. Thanks!

  • @RSCuber You can download Ircle from pure-mac DOT com/olden.html#ircle

  • @raider8654 Thank you so much. I've recently got my Mac Classic dialed in. I'll be sure to post a vid soon.

  • good Gawd, you used Tony Hatch in A video. Awesome

  • kids this is the computer minecraft was invented on lol!

  • This computer is better than my iPhone lol!

  • Would a Macintosh Plus work as well?

  • @cerealguy500 Yes a Mac Plus should also work. Have a look at Low End Mac or Jag's House for a start.

  • now we nee dto do that with a pdp-11, which is more powerful than a macintosh se30!!! in ram

  • ahahahahhaah

  • Bravo good sir. Bravo indeed.

  • i'd get a 56k model with that just for the nostalgia

  • I am going to do this. I need one of these SCSI to ethernet adapter things. Do you need some third party software to access the internet? (I have an SE with a blank hard drive. I'm getting some 6.0.8 disks soon)

  • haha Level 6--9

  • I always ask what it was like to live in the 1900's? My dad used to have a computer screen that took up almost the whole desk!

I guess the Internet was called dial up back then?

  • @BennyB5555 how old are you?

  • lol just use wlan

  • Reminds me of the good old lynx-days^^

  • can you go to the google homepage with that?

  • IRC networks are older than the hills, but in an awesome way! :D

  • what wireless plug in do you need for a mac powerpc 780/1400cs?

  • bruenig: yes I have ubuntu

  • bruenig: yes I have ubuntu

  • 1980's technology huh? Well Im not surprised cuz we have the same technology today, if we had more advanced technology in just 21 years we would all have future shock now wouldn't we? get your technology straight ye nerd

  • That sounded like background music for a North Korean propaganda video. :)

    That was really cool though.

  • @poshko41

Sounded like a remix of "Love is Blue", an orchestrated song from the 60's.

  • Whoa! System 6?! I thought I was cool when I would get on line on a Classic II w/System 7. Getting on line with a DOS only 386 is pretty sweet too.

  • Total RAM: 1mb

  • text loads in 1 minute and a half!

  • D'you have the uncompressed Asante software for the ethernet adapter? I am trying to get my machine online, and I am having trouble with the .img files (which are a pain in the arse). My PPC iMac G3 is not yet up (nor has a floppy drive), my Windows 98 PC with MacDrive installed is giving me drama with the most important files (even though I have gotten games to work on my Macintosh VIA Win98), and my Mac SE hasn't any software for .img files (which are, ironically, .img files).

  • lol. IRC.

  • Will that scsi Ethernet adapter work with an Amiga as well?

  • Ahh wow

    Porn for nerds. Lol :-)

You should see my commodore Vic 20 go on the Internet. Just YouTube Vic 20 uses Internet. Nice choice in music my friend.

  • wow..they had IRC clients back in 1989?

  • very cool

  • Is a SCSI to Ethernet Adapter and a SCSI to Ethernet Interface the same thing?

  • I bet you viruses don't even support that OS lol

  • @lizardmannnn lol

  • Is it possible to do this with a 512Ke? My friend found his old 512Ke going through stuff in his attic, I showed him this video, and he wants to make his do this.

  • heh #ubuntu

  • wow thats amazing!

  • there is an actual MODEM made by commodore....

so yes you can go 2 the internet with 16k speed

  • Mac SE W/ OS 6?!?

    *faints*

  • Comment removed

  • too expensive.

  • lol....What computers were they using in the movie hackers?

  • Fuck that shit, install linux on it!

  • @Fitfatfoofite why hobble the system even more.

  • He was using an irc client to go on ubuntu's irc channel

  • The description says that you can buy one for $50. I got mine for $12!

  • Will this work with a 512k model?

  • no, it dfoesnt hace skuzzy

  • @kargaroc386 you could try a serial network, but thats slow as hell.

  • Could find an old modem, I've heard it's possible to access IRC and POP mail from a 512k classic mac.

  • Comment removed

  • Will it work on the regular SE?

  • great video! What' s the musical theme in the background?

  • the theme is "love is blue" from Paul Mauriat :)

  • @xboyf originally its called love is blue by paul mauriat but thats a different version :)

  • can it be done on a 128k

  • Can you do that with a commodore 64 LOL!

  • Dman right you can!

  • I know

  • @2010mustang1 a guy made a webserver from a c64, so i think that it's possible

  • @2010mustang1 you can but you need different hardware

  • @2010mustang1 I had a Commodore 128 and used to communicate directly with friends in real time, via keyboard input, using a bulletin board program (BBS) loaded on a C1571 floppy disk drive about 25 years ago

  • @2010mustang1 yes.

  • @2010mustang1 that like hooking of an nes to the internet XDD

  • @2010mustang1 Yes.

  • @2010mustang1 yes you can

  • @2010mustang1 Yes.

  • The software on it is probably for the 1990s though I guess ? It can probably be upgraded to OS 7.5, which is from c. 1995

  • Apple ftw

  • Nice setup. I've been trying to get my SE/30 with an Ethernet card online, but still can't work out the proper MacTCP settings.

  • I want to try this with a PowerBook 3400!

  • browser?

  • MacLynx works on System 7 and is a text-only browser. You can get older browsers, some even support graphics, but they're pretty unreliable. If you had a Color Classic with lots of RAM it might be worth it.

As for chatting, it looks like he's using an IRC client. I believe there's also an early version of AIM that will work on a Classic. Finally, you need drivers and all that crap.

  • cool man :P

  • my dads has a built in modem for dail up only his is a 1997 windows 95 mine windows vista 2007

  • can you install like the windows messenger for mac on it?

  • of course, just make sure that you have a mac compatible with this version of messenger; or youcan try to change the message scripts of the messenger to get msn!

  • Looks cool, if you can pick one up for just $50 i'll give it a try sometime.

  • omg its apple and why does it say ubuntu on the chat box? linux intergration back then or now?

  • loved it!!

  • put NetBSD on it damnit

  • not enough ram you tard :P

  • right, that's why there's a port for that arch, dipshit

  • I was pointing out that ubuntu didnt exist in 1980's to that dude

  • who said anything bout ubuntu you dipshit?!

  • the mother fuckin irc channel he's chatting in tard

  • and what does that have to do with my comment about NetBSD?? Oh I see, it has NOTHING to do with it whatsoever, it's just that you are a crack smoking freak with the attention span of a gnat and the reading comprehension skills of a toddler.

  • Thats sweet! Now all these people you're catting with are using the same OS or older computers? I'm kind of confused. :P lol

  • can you go on websites or there is no web browser?

  • yes i useto have one of these

  • lynx as webbrowser

    usenet is like "old-school" forums

  • Is there any drivers you need to use for that Asante ethernet adapter?? If so, where can I get one? I use System 7.0.1 and have a Mac SE/30, built in 1990.

  • use icab for web browsing

  • Cool! Never saw a Macintosh Classic connected to the Internet. But... how is that possible? The computer needs to obtain a IP-adress from the DHCP-server from your internet provider or your network. But no software is installed on your Mac to do that job. How did you fixed that?

  • I just recently tried to reply to your comment; I don't think it went through, so I'll try again.

In the video, I forgot to mention that the computer is also running a program called MacTCP, which, as you might suspect, allows it to interface with the TCP/IP protocol. Try Googling for MacTCP and you will find out more. Thanks

  • Ah, cool. Probably makes computers that old a little more worthy...

  • lol me too

  • Can I do that with a Mac Plus? Send me one of those gadgets!

  • Yes. The Mac Plus has a SCSI port.

  • Very cool video!

    Go Mac

  • I've done that with my Power Macintosh 5260/200.
