This is an older cobalt ss which sucks. 2008 was when Chevy revised the SS and got it making 260hp which is pretty damn impressive. So any one looking at a Cobalt SS get 2008 or higher any year lower than that isn't worth it.

I love how people call them slowbalts. Makes no sense! Any base cobalt (LS) is faster than any foreign base model 4 cylinder (civic or corrola ) and is faster than neon and focus. Caliber is the only one, I believe, that is faster because is comes with a 2.4l which has almost identical HP and TQ numbers to the 2.4l ecotec. Slowbalt is not accurate. IMO if you were to spend $25k on a "slowbalt SS " you should just buy a camaro instead

They are underpowered to begin with and that's why they stick SC/ turbo chargers from factory just to be a normal car. Oh and Rsx's have a speed limiter @136mph. People have bypassed them and done over 160mph. But you got to be an idiot doing anything over 130 mph on the high way.
The type S is a quicker car than alot of people will give it credit for. Both are quick cars and alot of people need to realize that instead of insisting one is sooooo much better than the other just because they like one better.
RSX-S=Fail! Its a girls car with no balls I mean no torque! The SS supercharged kills the RSX-S and the Turbo SS only kills it worse while the supercharged SS owner can spend $400 to upgrade to a 2.9 pulley and beat the stock turbo SS so that mean more FAIL for Honda. The RSX-S didn't even register at nurburgring but the s2000 did(which is faster than an RSX-S yet still lost to a cobalt SS)..Hmmm Imagine that!
I find it funny when someone claims a Cobalt SS or an SRT-4 is a better car than the Honda. I'd like to point out that the RSX is naturally aspirated with a far better engine than either of the two competitors. If you're a good driver you can easily keep up with both cars. Great video!
@MrJroesel You're right about the better engine, much more efficient( Horsepower per Liter, and that's n/a compared to sc/tc) than the SRT4's or the SS's however a stock RSX-S with the best driver on the planet would never keep up with a stock SRT4 with an 80 year old granny driving it. Not to be too dramatic, but there's a big gap between the two cars, the neon weighs about 100lbs more and has more horses to the wheel(230ish dyno proven bone stock) than the rsx type s has to the flywheel(210).
just for everyones info the s/c ss cobalts are 205 hp at the flywheel and the turbo ss cobalts are 260 hp at the flywheel . and yes the turbo ones are underrated , ive seen a stock ss t/c beat a 98 mustang cobra also stock at the local drag strip , not just once but 3 times they ran . and yes my jaw was on the ground as was everyone elses . and yes the guy knew how to launch the cobra without burinig his tires off . very impressive

@chevydude2 Lol how was the race fake, pretty sure you just watched it. Good try with the numbers, the S/C that comes stock on the cobalt makes the car have 205HP at the CRANK. So your looking at around 275WHP.
Torque does help, but a car with more HP will wind in the high end of a race. But a stock 05-06 RSX type s will beat a stock S/C Cobalt.

The whine is just the turbine spinning so fast from the belt at high RPMS. You're right, since 4 cylinders don't have a lot of torque to begin with, it saps horsepower from the engine more than say, a 5.0 liter stang with a SC, but you're still getting more HP and torque than you would be without it

problem is those are factory numbers, most Cobalts put out more than 200whp stock from what I've seen. And even if those numbers were correct, the Cobalt has a slight hp advantage, but a massive torque advantage. Up top I could see the M62 weezing a bit though.

@brandontoscano I drive a CSVT. The SS TC isn't just as fast as any SRT4...it's a lot quicker stock for stock and the handling on the TC is amazing where as on the SRT4 its pretty meh.

I live in Fort Collins and see plenty of girls in SRT4's (they think it's a regaular neon now thats funny), and although I've seen plenty of girls in baseline Cobalts I'm yet to see a girl in an SS. Honestly I like all three cars, but both the SRT4 and Cobalt SS have cheap as shit interior (and I'm not just saying this because their domestic)...I can't say bout the RSX-S. I can tell you a great car for the buck with everything is the Speed3.
@ajlod934893 this cobalt is ss/sc the new ones are t/c.. the s/c is like 205hp 200 torques rsx-s is 210... the new tc is like 260hp though, so no rsx is getting near a t/c.
@kawasaki6402 True...although I've heard the sc is more like 235bhp and it was rated low for insurance. I believe it cause looking at the stats it is WAY to quick for 205.
@goodapollo87 I know for a fact the SC isn't 205...there have been many dyno at 230-235. They just list it at 205 for insurance reasons...a lot of companies actually do that (R35 is underlisted, 05' SRT4 is underlisted, etc). So yes your right they are listed at 205 when in all actuality they aren't (reminds me of the old 3rd Gen trans-am that could only go "80"). I doubt the rsx-s itself is 200 bhp...just look at the 0-60 times it pulls. No way it could be 200.

@ajlod934893 The RSX Type S is definately a car to take serious. The Clutch is easy to blip and it tachs out at 9000RPMS. RSX can pull a 0-60 in 6 sec no modifications. This is coming from an SRT-4 guy. The problem is that the Cobalt doesnt make a shit load of torque or horsepower for a supercharged vehicle. I like the cobalt and plan on buying a 2009 turbocharged version of the Cobalt. Superchargers are junk

With that said the best 0-60 times I've read of are 6.4 and I know numerous magazines have matched the RSX-S and it always gets lowest in it's class, being beat by both the Cobalt SS SC and the Saturn Ion Red Line. @Dirtracer6516 The output of the LSJ (SS engine) is far from lacking. IIRC, most people get closer to 220whp stock, which is what GM rated the car at the flywheel. Then with a pulley, injectors and tune, you got yourself a lot more horsepower on the cheap. Not to mention a lot of the other tricks(which most can be done cheap) you can do just to get the most out of a stock LSJ. I don't care much for Cobalts, but the Ecotec (in any form) is a force to be reckoned with.

just k20a2 with dc header, and fabricated my old AEM intake to go to the k20a2 TB. no aftermarket exhaust yet, but i kinda like it that way. it sounds like a beast other than getting those loud notes from exhausts. and thats about the weight of my car with me in it. maybe less. no A/C or power steering. but not like that really took out anything. reason i say i"rape" the ss s/c, is because i just keep leaving the cobalt. its not even close. i just keep walking it quicker than this video

@chevydude2 Lol how was the race fake, pretty sure you just watched it. Good try with the numbers, the S/C that comes stock on the cobalt makes the car have 205HP at the CRANK. So your looking at around 275WHP.
Torque does help, but a car with more HP will wind in the high end of a race. But a stock 05-06 RSX type s will beat a stock S/C Cobalt.

The whine is just the turbine spinning so fast from the belt at high RPMS. You're right, since 4 cylinders don't have a lot of torque to begin with, it saps horsepower from the engine more than say, a 5.0 liter stang with a SC, but you're still getting more HP and torque than you would be without it

problem is those are factory numbers, most Cobalts put out more than 200whp stock from what I've seen. And even if those numbers were correct, the Cobalt has a slight hp advantage, but a massive torque advantage. Up top I could see the M62 weezing a bit though.

@brandontoscano I drive a CSVT. The SS TC isn't just as fast as any SRT4...it's a lot quicker stock for stock and the handling on the TC is amazing where as on the SRT4 its pretty meh.

I live in Fort Collins and see plenty of girls in SRT4's (they think it's a regaular neon now thats funny), and although I've seen plenty of girls in baseline Cobalts I'm yet to see a girl in an SS. Honestly I like all three cars, but both the SRT4 and Cobalt SS have cheap as shit interior (and I'm not just saying this because their domestic)...I can't say bout the RSX-S. I can tell you a great car for the buck with everything is the Speed3.

@goodapollo87 I know for a fact the SC isn't 205...there have been many dyno at 230-235. They just list it at 205 for insurance reasons...a lot of companies actually do that (R35 is underlisted, 05' SRT4 is underlisted, etc). So yes your right they are listed at 205 when in all actuality they aren't (reminds me of the old 3rd Gen trans-am that could only go "80"). I doubt the rsx-s itself is 200 bhp...just look at the 0-60 times it pulls. No way it could be 200.

@ajlod934893 The RSX Type S is definately a car to take serious. The Clutch is easy to blip and it tachs out at 9000RPMS. RSX can pull a 0-60 in 6 sec no modifications. This is coming from an SRT-4 guy. The problem is that the Cobalt doesnt make a shit load of torque or horsepower for a supercharged vehicle. I like the cobalt and plan on buying a 2009 turbocharged version of the Cobalt. Superchargers are junk

With that said the best 0-60 times I've read of are 6.4 and I know numerous magazines have matched the RSX-S and it always gets lowest in it's class, being beat by both the Cobalt SS SC and the Saturn Ion Red Line. Seriously though I love this car and I got props for the naturally aspirated guys out there.

@Dirtracer6516 The output of the LSJ (SS engine) is far from lacking. IIRC, most people get closer to 220whp stock, which is what GM rated the car at the flywheel. Then with a pulley, injectors and tune, you got yourself a lot more horsepower on the cheap. Not to mention a lot of the other tricks(which most can be done cheap) you can do just to get the most out of a stock LSJ. I don't care much for Cobalts, but the Ecotec (in any form) is a force to be reckoned with.

just k20a2 with dc header, and fabricated my old AEM intake to go to the k20a2 TB. no aftermarket exhaust yet, but i kinda like it that way. it sounds like a beast other than getting those loud notes from exhausts. and thats about the weight of my car with me in it. maybe less. no A/C or power steering. but not like that really took out anything. reason i say i"rape" the ss s/c, is because i just keep leaving the cobalt. its not even close. i just keep walking it quicker than this video
