Dude i have one of these and i have two rats but the vest is still to big for them. It was the smallest vest the store had. My rats are still babies so should i wait?
I define animal abuse as in an action against the animals will (in this case pet rat), something that hurts the animal and in this case there’s no such thing as animal abuse. This is not animal abuse. It's actually quite good for them. Sometimes rats need operations and vets recommend putting a sock with holes in it on them to cover up stitched areas. This is just getting them used to that.. And it looks pretty cute too, if he was bothered about it he would of ripped it off sooner..
I hope the people claiming that rats like wearing clothes are just kidding. No one can be that stupid to believe this shit. On the other hand... Americans.. We are talking about people who dress their cats, give them baths (wtf?) and in some states declaw and even cut their pets vocal cords.

I'm a huge supporter of animal rights as well. I work in shelters with abused Pit Bull dogs and I'm also a vegetarian. I think Peta is just ridiculous in their 'we save animals" and then victimize others who eat meat, even though I know a lot of people who eat meat that save plenty of lives (more then Peta has). Animal abuse is making an animal torture... not putting a vest on him that he seems to enjoy.
my boys (three male rats) are about the same age as your rat in this video, so I could totally relate. They can be so cute when free ranging. Mine tend to just climb on my shoulders and back so it's hard to take any picture of them when they're out. Great pets.

@mysticalcancer Sadly my stepmom decided I couldn't get two rats (they're too big I suppose to her) and I didn't want to get one and make the other one be all alone, so I got two gerbils instead :D (stepmom allowed me to ^^)

Cute. It is kind difficult to make clothing to fit a critter that walks on all fours, should have given him a smidgen more room in the back to where he could have held the treats to eat them. Hmmm, maybe a pleat or two or some elastic? Now making underwear for them is even more difficult... LOL

Rats actually love wearing clothes. they are one of the few animals (like dolphins) that know what they look like. Animals have no sense of what they are, thus they act odd in a mirror, not knowing its them. Rats and dolphins (and elephants I think) do know, and know the clothes look good on them. ok THAT might be stretching it, but they, in no way, mind clothing. They love being engulfed in fabric all the time (hammocks, tissue etc) so this is in no way abuse. Very nice vest ladies.

@Levonanureen I find that hard to believe considering rats can barely see. Not only that, but would they go "Hey, I look good in this!" bearing in mind that vests aren't readily avaliable in the wild.
Cuute ^-^ plus I don't think this is cruel as it was loose and the rat seemed fine with it. If it was a lead it would've been pretty bad (could get tangled up etc) but this wasn't hurting it :D

@DragonflyOnBreak I'll tell you whut I did to get mice ^-^ : I did some pet sitting and chores around the house and got enough money to buy everything I needed. I made some toys for them. And eventually my parents (who are actually pretty strict and consistent!) took me out to buy them. Hope this helped :>
My parents didn't want to have rats at first. So I convinced them with videos showing the personality of rats and also proved my responsibility. It was close to my birthday when I told them I wanted rats as a present, so that might have helped as well.
My mother was deathly afraid of rats til I got her to meet one :) she absolutely fell in love with is cuddly personality that's how I won her over now in a few months of reading and preparing I get a pet rat <3

I had a naked rat my mom told me I needed to clothe XD But he passed away before I could make him some. :/ My rats come tome when I call them quicker than my dog does. You just have to get two young rats at the same time and they'll be fine. Having two or more rats in the same cage helps with socialization and happiness. ^_^ If they're kept apart, they might be a tad bit upset. Rats enjoy having cage mates.

It depends on the sizes of your rats. It was really easy for me to put the vest on Shadow... Also, my rats were about 7 months old when I posted this. :3
Actually it just looks a little awkward on his arm, so hes trying to fix it, like we would. If he wanted it off, he would get it off very easily, rather that lifting him arm a little

I need to get a vest like that. Sammy first was too small for his vest, and walked right out of it, now he's too big, and he worms his way out of it cuz he feels restricted... so I never put it on him anymore.

Cute. It is kind difficult to make clothing to fit a critter that walks on all fours, should have given him a smidgen more room in the back to where he could have held the treats to eat them. Hmmm, maybe a pleat or two or some elastic? Now making underwear for them is even more difficult... LOL

HOW the hell is that animal abuse? I agree with BlackRaven. If a rat was in pain or discomfort it woul dbe raising hell and squeaking all over the damn place. The rat was totally fine. I put a 'Woody' vest on my rat it was funny as hell. She never even tried to take it off she was like 'Ok' and I only had it on her for 15 secs. Some people are so stupid and have nothing better to do than be negative about everything.

Rats actually love wearing clothes. they are one of the few animals (like dolphins) that know what they look like. Animals have no sense of what they are, thus they act odd in a mirror, not knowing its them. Rats and dolphins (and elephants I think) do know, and know the clothes look good on them. ok THAT might be stretching it, but they, in no way, mind clothing. They love being engulfed in fabric all the time (hammocks, tissue etc) so this is in no way abuse. Very nice vest ladies.

Cuute ^-^ plus I don't think this is cruel as it was loose and the rat seemed fine with it. If it was a lead it would've been pretty bad (could get tangled up etc) but this wasn't hurting it :D

@DragonflyOnBreak I'll tell you whut I did to get mice ^-^ : I did some pet sitting and chores around the house and got enough money to buy everything I needed. I made some toys for them. And eventually my parents (who are actually pretty strict and consistent!) took me out to buy them. Hope this helped :>

My parents didn't want to have rats at first. So I convinced them with videos showing the personality of rats and also proved my responsibility. It was close to my birthday when I told them I wanted rats as a present, so that might have helped as well.

He is soooo cute! I wish I could put clothes on my rats. I had a naked rat my mom told me I needed to clothe XD But he passed away before I could make him some. :/ My rats come tome when I call them quicker than my dog does. Plus they don't poop in their houses like my dumb dog -_- Nor do they chew up their houses....rats FTW!

You just have to get two young rats at the same time and they'll be fine. Having two or more rats in the same cage helps with socialization and happiness. ^_^ If they're kept apart, they might be a tad bit upset. Rats enjoy having cage mates.

It depends on the sizes of your rats. It was really easy for me to put the vest on Shadow... Also, my rats were about 7 months old when I posted this. :3
