I made a smaller version of this basket and filled it with chocolates and gave it as a gift to my aunt. She loved it! Thank you sooooo much for your wonderful videos!!!
Hi thanks sooooooo much for sharing this tutorial :)
I have already made one basket but would like to make another a bit larger......
So l would complete round 5 ( 1 hdc in each stitch , for 48 stitches ) then what would l do to increase in the 6th round???? ( 1 hdc and in the next stitch 2, then 1 then 2..... )
Hi Teresa, I love all of your tutorials, but can you please mention how much yarn did you use in each project so that I have better idea to get enough yarn at once. Thank you a lot and look forward to seeing more of your great tutorials.
I love the basket. I made one to see how it would come out and loved it. I'm now making one for each of my three kids to use for Easter egg hunts every year. i just added a few more rounds at the end to make it a little taller.
What should I do if I want to make the basket about twice the size here? This is so very cute and not that difficult to follow so I tried it and came up with one too small. It felt more like a bowl. I'd very much like to use the basket to put in California Cuties (tangerines) on the kitchen table. So, something about 15 tangerines should be accommodated, and I think twice the size would fit them nicely.
@abgrunder My guess is, I'll have to two half double crochets in one stitch a few more times in earlier rounds?? and then when the total number of stitches is somewhere around 96 (or 100) I do the same as done here?
Also, I just finished my V-stitch scarf yesterday. I just started crocheting. Less than a week ago. I think you're such a great teacher that I'm having little problem doing exactly as you do! Thank you again!
@tjw1963 Thanks for your reply. I actually regretted posting the question. English is not my first language and I sound like a crazy person in English especially on Youtube! (Sad). I went ahead and did what I thought might work, and came up with a very very pretty basket. I felt so happy putting in the tangerines.
If you use starch.. availabel in the laundry isle of your grocery store. Just make up a strong solution and soak your crochet in that. Then gently squeeze the excess solution out of the crochet piece (do not wring it!) And mould the peice over a cup or bowl or other mould to the shape you want. Let your pieces air dry and they are stiff. another thing you can use if can't find starch is just icing sugar solution. I prefer the starch.
hi,i'm alina from romania.Where can i see a full version for that amigurumi mouse? You've lost me from round 4 and 5 :((.i really wanna make it for my little boy.Can u answer me on my email?i beg you.i want to do it untill xmas.thx
Hi Teresa , Im from Kuwait I like & lov all ur videos ,I learn too much from u I made this basket and its excelant Im smart maybe better than u its a joke :) ur the best ,can u make an accesories like neckleses, preslets from crochet . Way u dont come here to Kuwait and teaching the crochet here, u will be rich, people here likes learning crochet too much, thanks for every things lov u :)
I used 2 strands of 4 ply for this video demonstration. It can be done with 1 strand although it will be smaller. You can mix in other yarns and thread if you want to. I did post a video of the basket that I made with thread.
Hi Teresa i love this bakset thanks for sharing it with us. I have decided to keep all my buttons in it,Could you tell me if you know of anywhere i cold buy stiffeners to keep baskets in shape. please. Thanks Teresa UK
Awesome, as always! Need your advice please. By row 8 or so, I was up to about 56 or 58 stitches. My guess is I was putting an HDC in the SC step up stitch, and also possibly in the "stitch" resulting from the join. It appears I was adding roughly 2 per row. I think I have trouble with stitch identification...in other words being able to identify the SC from the previous round and NOT put an HDC in it. Can you offer any advice? Kind of new - just 5 months into it. THANKS!
I would suggest counting each round. It is not going to be a big problem if you have an extra stitch or two. You can easily adjust if you do wind up with an extra stitch by either doing a decrease or skipping a stitch to get you back on track.
That was my remedy yesterday...I counted, recounted, & counted again & again. I've noticed this is a recurring problem I have....identifying stitches in previous rows. Even at the end of a row on the basket I see a stitch & wonder if it's one I should put an HDC in. Constantly counting is very tedious, & slows me down a lot. I feel like I should be able to SEE the difference. What do I look for when trying to distinguish stitches in previous rows? Whereever I see a < I put in a stitch! :-D
Look closely at what the top of the stitch looks like and that is where you put your new stitch. I want to mention this for future people reading through the comments, I always recommend to count. Counting will save you time by ending each row with an accurate count and preventing the possibility of ripping out rounds and starting over again.
i go with barbhh.. i had the same problem and i ended up in a real bad shape of the basket.. i had to remove and redo the basket counting the rows and finally it came out well.. i did it with a red and yellow combo.. nd came out well.. thankyou teresa..
This basket was a lot of fun to make! Thank you for getting me out of my Granny Square rut. For two years that is all I could make. My husband suggested I look and YouTube and I found you. I've made your shamrocks, flowers and this basket. I'm so appreciative of the fact that you spend the time posting these wonderful instructions! After watching the videos, I can now read the instructions! I love my "AH HA" moments. Thanks! I'm off to start a cookie!
I've already made several of these, and it's so fun to mix and match colors. Plus, my own children and my daycare children love them! I'm thinking about filling them up with candles and reed diffusers to give to someone for a wedding gift. Thank you so much for all your videos, you are so creative!
Hi Teresa, really enjoying watching your work, it's because of you that I am now able to crochet! Just a query with this basket, you say Complete 8 times total from * in the edging section but when watching your video you don't seem to CH1 after each shell, or at least I don't notice it if you do.... Is this my mistake in not viewing your video correctly or should the * be after the CH1?
The chain 1 is used as the step up for the next round. It is done only once in the beginning next to the single crochet. The single crochet are repeated 8 times after each shell. If you look at the edging in the instructions, you will see the chain 1 at the beginning. That is the only time the chain 1 is done. I hope that makes sense. With the different stitches, you need something to get you up to the next round. It may be a chain of 1,2 or 3 or maybe a long loop, done at the beginning.
Thanks for your reply. I have a completed basket, albeit the handle is a bit hit and miss but it looks great all the same! You must spend so much time crocheting, you are lucky (and extremely talented!!!)
So Cute! I have plans now to make an easter basket for my son and baskets for the new baby's things. I better get a move on it though, I only have 3 more months before the baby gets here!
This Tuesday I'm getting the big 28 week ultrasound and in 4D! My doctor loves to do this week in the pregnancy because she wants the mommy to be to really see the baby and how cute it is. I'll post up some pics for you! The baby's name is Evelyn Louise. :O)
Hi Teresa, thank you for your basket tutorial :) You are an amazing person and I love your work. Greetings from Serbia :)

how do i make it a bigger basket?
i tried another row 2 hdc in ea 48 of total 96 it stared to form curls all around
pinklawer 1 year ago
@pinklawer Using a larger crochet hook is the easiest way. The other way is to do another round of increase stitches.

You will continue with increase rounds. There is where you work 2 stitches in one stitch with even increments around.
