Just the sort of thing I expect from the guy who runs the official website. Where do you get them all from? Totally awesome performance of this early classic.
I love his Alembics, Status, GB & Ashley Pangborn basses.......but for me, nothing beats the sound of the Jaydee. Strapped high on his chest making him look like Gerry Marsdens grandson, whilst beating seven shades out of it......pure funk heaven....any chance he'll use it on the 30th anniversay tour?
I think I'm an addict. I'm guessing I've watched this amazing vid 50-60 times in the past week...and I'm starting to have dreams at night that I'm living at the Rockpalast. Sad, but true.
what ever happened to music like this? the world is now flled with rap and chavy music. this is the real music, level 42. anyway, love marks... whatever he was doing at the beggining. thanks for posting.
Great groove ;example of early level 42s Rawness, more towards a fusion type of thing, rather than a ,for lack of a better description a more "pop" type of composing style .I think it is all part of their evolution as a band and composers/song writers.Mark was always amazing ,his solos still contain elements from these days.
@dablt: Yeah, I know, but he actually says: Danke schön - immer! Aye, take it easy my man! He was pointing at someone in the audience and I really would like to know what that was about...
Where Mark King got the energy to play these gigs at the pace he displays here is beyond me. This is a classic example of what makes the Jaydee such a high-caliber instrument in the hands of a skilled master.
fantastic video of the authentic original band's pioneering work. Unfortunately it keeps freezing up about 20% of the way through - always in the same place.
I`m a Copeland fan, but this drummer knows his onions. The whole band is so under-rated, only really remembered for their late 80`s radio-friendly songs, but man could they funk!! Hot Water is unbeatable!
@mrjonrickly Um HELLO! We don't all listen to the same rubbish! I happen to be a passionate and devoted Level 42 fan and aged 16 aswell. Comments like that make me feel really frustrated that I've been labelled because of my age.
This is the best version of this song. The one on their album pales in comparison. Since this was done later in their tenure of course. But I wanted this version when i bought it.

THIS SHIT IS FUNKAAAY!!! There's a term called BritFunk... and it can definitely be attributed and originated by LEVEL 42..They took funk music and definitely put their own stamp on it with the jazz rock feel...Check out jazzrock group Return to Forever... Lenny White, the drummer...A major influence on mark
Whatever happed to the world today (2008) where all the talents? and nobody can write music anymore and no one can play live? do we need Xfactor? Long live Mark King and Level 42
Phil, Boon, Mike and Mark...its a pity more people don't know and appreciate this band. The greatest "pop" band ever IMO, because they completely transcend pop music. I wish they'd come to the states again, but I doubt that will ever happen. Maybe one day I'll get across the pond.
I was never a fan of Level 42, because of the commercial stuff they did, but I still love the real down & dirty stuff that they did so well. My son's 15 and playing bass and he really respects MK, along with Bootsy, Jaco, Stanley Clarke, Percy Jones, etc.
