  • his shell looks so bad. what he needs is sunlight. you have to build a garden habitat where he lives in summer. in the winter, he has to sleep. you should not feed him tomato is well. x(

  • After all these years, my tortoise is fine. After 5+ years with us, she has been very normal. Thanks everyone for caring.

For those keep asking me to take her to the vet, let me say this again. I bought her and took her home because no one wanted her. I gave her balanced diet and enough "mud" for her to crawl on. She is very fine now. Thanks shootingstarsnursey support!!!

  • My tortoise eats tomatoes too there so cute because they have no teeth! :D your tortoises shell looks pretty fine to me and I know alot about tortoises especially having one of my own, they probz don't know owt about tortoises HIS SHELL IS FINE!!!

  • Seriously needs some calcium, horrendous MBD!!! How is the tortoise now?

  • OMG MAN TAKE THE POOR THING TO A VET HIS SHELL IS SOOOOOOOO BAD

  • DUDE TAKE HIM TO THE VET!

  • 4 people love tomatos

  • hey... reptiles like red and orange for some reason... shouldnt feed him too much of that unless he needs water.

  • Oh, your tort's shell looks awful. It's caused by an improper diet and this will shorten its life span. Veggies high in protein should be avoided. And tomatoes should be avoided...only provide as a treat once in a blue moon.

  • Tomatoes are not healthy.

    Ca: P ratio (1: 2.1)

    The turtle has Rachitis.

  • Holy cow this is a very unhealthy tort! It's funny that the unhealthy torts are always eating something they shouldn't on youtube.

  • that tortoise has a shell deformetey from either to high in protein of a diet or bad lighting

  • Hey, i wanna get a tortoise or turtle that does not need an aquarium with water to swim in, Like yours. Wht kind is yours and how much did she cost?

  • Turtles swim - Tortoises don't

Just to clear it up, no Tortoises need aquariums

  • Yeah. I know tortoises dont swim. But when i said "Turtles that don't swim" I meant like a box turtle. And by "Does it need an aquarium" I meant does it need a glass tank or no because I heard that glass is bad for them. I was thinking of building it a wooden enclosure with an open top.

  • definately go for wood

  • oh my bad, sorry

  • how old is him/her?

  • dandilion leafs!

  • my turtle is an eastern box turyle and he loves it when i rub his head i think box turtles connect with humans the best

  • To Tortoises actually have a relationship with their owners? Or are they just walking rocks?

  • omg the tortoise so cute!!! give him/her some leafy greens so that he/she live longer ^.^

  • beatiful tortoise i once had one called torty and my aunty had 2 for my cousins one of my cousins tortoises had a disease and then my auntie got worried and then got a replacement tortoise and that one was fat and .... fat enormous then i had to give my tortoise to my auntie beacuse i was streesed and thenn the replacemnt tortoise had an abcess on his eye and was sent back to so mine and my cousin toroise reamined and unfourtenly they both went sick too :-(

  • you are the tort killing familie?

  • be nice... no one wants their pet to suffer.

  • They dont know how to eat. I have some too.

  • dunstany, your tortoise's shell is pyramiding due to the lack of nutrients you have been providing in its diet. You should lay off the sweet fruits like tomato or mango and add more leafy greens high in nutrients(chickory, dandelion, etc.) so that your tortoise can live a long life(which he will not if you keep feeding him in this manner).

  • as i treat i give mine mango they love it :)

  • Om nom nom

  • feed him better and his shell won't "pyramid" so much.

look into what they should eat and don't provide high protein/sugar/acid food so much.

  • ahhhh so cute

  • does tortoise hibernate?

  • Some species do, some don't. I don't know about this one.

  • Hello... Thank you for your reply. They seems better now cos i change vege and tomoto. But it seems lile tomato than vege. At lease they moving around more often.

  • As I have previously stated, they tend to take tomato than vegie. Problem? They will start not eating normal vegies... so, be careful.

  • you can make them eat vegies again by mixing small pieces of veggie with the tomato so they get used to the taste again

  • hello... I hope my star tortoises will as healthy as yours. they dun even move a lot in their house. Hai...

  • Star Tortoise is one of hardest breed to keep. If they are not very active, that's an alarm. Please take him to the vet and take a quick check.

  • @tortoiseandturtle lol myns like......NO! I AINT FLIPPING EATING TILL YOU PUT ME OVER THERE! DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He dont move for anything.....Accept for carrots :D

  • yummi

  • im trying to get 1 i love thos things!

  • im trying to get 1 i love thos things!

  • you know alot of people may sterotype how reptiles are scaley and ugly but i think this is cute

  • Awesome

  • ahhh

    ok

    was just wondering

    glad to know ^_^

and yes i need to read other comments first haha

  • is ur tortoise ok?

it looks like its shell is a bit mishaped

    like a deficiency or something

or is that just the breeds shell type?

  • Read my previous comments. We bought her as no one wants them in the pet shop. She is now ok. This is pyramid.

  • hey dude i find a tortoise in my backyard its still pretty young bout 4 inches long, but i havnt seen it eat and i found it yesterday ubt the mouth has a little yellow so he has eaten but i havnt seen him eat,how many days in a week do i feed him,or do i just put some food and let it eat when it wants to,and what r the foods it eats,i put some kind of dif fruits, cut up into small pieces and i put letus, give me some info plz

  • Good to have your tortoise live in mud (backyard) which a lot of article says it is good for pyraminding. For food, I recommend sliced Romaine Lettuce after put him in water for 15~30 min daily. Not recommend for tomato or fruit too much as he may intend not to eat regular food. You must add balanced food from pet shop to make sure he has balanced diet. Good luck.

  • i give mine for a treat mango or melon :)

  • Hello! i`ve just watched your video of thr greec tortoise munching a tomato. As i had two baby turtles dying due to my ignorance for the proper care they need (food, light) i thought to write to you. but others did already. Just one thing!!!

against the common opinion: in their wildlife their spend most of the time alone, if they are held as domestic animals, buy him a friend & you will see how happy it will be!! thanks & greetings from old switzerland

  • Sorry to hear about your baby turtle... She came home with another tortoise; but that one died because we couldn't spot that she was not eating... Now with this size is really difficult to get her another companion with this similar size. Besides, my wife doesn't want any of our pets die just because we cannot examine their diet pattern and poo...

  • great point there. I just got my sulcata hatchling, its two months old according to the breeder. Hope I do well with it.

  • Good luck.

  • I think us Tortoise fans should be more circumspect in posting these kinds of videos. Naive potential owners might just go out to the pet store and buy torts and start feeding them apples, tomato, papaya, lettuce etc.

  • Hmmm.... good thought. However, I think anyone who consider to own their pets / kids should read more and get themselves enough knowledge. That's common sense.

  • MeAkouTube: I understand your intention, but I think people are not that stupid. After all you have a video petting your arowana, and I am 100% sure that is not good for the fish. I am not condemning you for doing that, but if you follow your own logic, you should delete those videos.

  • Thanks for your comments, and let's put this as a place for educated sharing place.

  • haha thats so cute!! i have two tortoises and they both eat like that... they can just never bite it properly...

  • Yum!^^ I have two turtles, but they're aquatic.

  • very severe pyrmaiding. More weeds less fruit

  • She has had this problem when we bought her home. She is just not getting serious any more.

One thing, balanced diet PLUS muddy ground help to improve the situation.

  • i don't know if you do, but a bigger tank (not plastic) and tons of peet moss would make it happier. you need to give it its natural environment. then it won't die. turtles will live longer than you do if you take care of it properly. i don't own one but i know plenty about them.

  • A little advice, Do NOT give your SULCATA tortois that much tomato, the tortoise cannot handle that much moisture and liquid :S,

  • Thanks for the advice. It is only occasional. :)

  • Focus!

  • OMG is he gonna finish it all? I mean the dang thing is bigger than it!

  • Is that tortoise Italian?

  • Could you help me with something? See my little brother and sister want me to buy them a tortoise. However when i went to petsmart, the tortoise looked kinda creepy it was a russian tortoise. Then i saw a greek tortoise which was ok but then the guy overwhelmed me with prices. Can u give me suggestions to help a begginer?

  • try a box turtle, i find them all the time and they are not that hard to take care of.

  • Sorry for late response. Actually, the tortoise can be very delicate and they will just die because of diet. To me, it is not the price, but how adorable. Just make sure you check on their diet, and have them pee'd in a water bowl everyday.

  • I'm so glad to read this. Thank you so much for responding to it. Way to go to you and your wife for helping this little one out! There are so many out there who just do not care, and these awesome animals deserve the best there is!

  • Julia and I are tortoise lover. Admit the first one we raise was dead due to our ignorance. We have been reading and learning since that time. The last Star Tortoise passed away one year ago and even the vet didn't know why... he said things happen... anyway, we are doing our best to let Kiki have a wonderful life. (Our chinchilla did scared Kiki a bit last nite though... :p )

  • dunstany, is this a rescue tort or something? As Shelly said, he/she is not looking well at all. As a total tortoise fan, I had to ask. I'm worried about this little one.

  • Kiki is sort of a leftover in the pet shop. My wife and I bought two similar pyramid tortoise from the pet shop. The other one (Lala) passed away 2~3 years ago. Kiki is actually quite strong and healthy. I have swopped a pill thing (Vet prescribed diet) to her since Shelly advice. Don't worry, she is doing ok now. We are still giving her tomato and lettuces as treat, but not as main diet. Thanks for your care.

  • Just a word of advice; your tortoise looks like it has pyramiding, and I think it is quite unwell and it would be a good idea to stick to dandelion leaves and flowers and thistle. I think your tortoise needs to stop eating fruit (and lettuce is not good, as it is too high in water content and not high enough in fibre) as it is too high in protein for tortoises to eat every day. Go to the tortoise trust website, and look up about dietry routines. Feel free to email me

  • Lol! My tortoise LOVES tomatos too! :>

  • Yeap, they generally love tomato... It is treat to them as they tends to prefer tomato than lettuces...

  • cute!
