What makes them great is they never play the song exactly the same -- always a suprising speed, lead line or take --depending on how they felt - master improvisers -- no two version of this song are alike and you head something new every time!
Some of these comments disturb me. This kind of musis has always given me enjoyment, each contribution makes the music what it is. Usually there is some type of disagreement in the group that gets this type stuff started. Forgive and forget and maybe they will make a better come back soon, old but not forgotten
if you like pile driving, down 'n dirty rock 'n roll, then from 1969-1974, The Rolling Stones were The Greatest Rock Band in the World. The Beatles rolled. The Stones ROCKED! Led Zeppelin was superb. Black Sabbath was awesome. The Who kicked ass. When you just flat out want to rock your ass off, you listen to The Stones from THIS era. IMHO, the heart and soul of The Stones was ... Keith Richards. Saw him live in the 1970s. Best riffer in rock history, bar none. Keef Riffhard rules!
@hotfudgemoney While I agree that 68 was the beginning of their best period and that Beggars Banquet was an amazing album, it had a lot of acoustic country/folk bluesy material on it. FanOfJanis was talking about their traditional rock & Roll sound. A sound that they didn't really acquire until Let it Bleed. Beggars Banquet shows them on the quest to becoming their best, while Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St. and (in my opinion) Goats Head Soup show them already their.
L' attacco di chitarra è quanto di più straordinario le mie orecchie abbiano mai sentito; il cambio di ritmo alla fine della canzone mi fa venire la pelle d' oca sempre.
the stones from 69-74 were the best. mick taylor kicked ass on every song on brussels affair. what am i saying? taylor kicked ass on every song he played. When Keith and Taylor were together, the Stones had a deep sound that was felt throughout all the songs. Nowadays, the sound is a mere shadow compared to what it once was and everybody got to go!
I knew MT is said to be out of shape and what's done is done, but My God this is fantastic. Kick Ronnie out and bring him back for that supposedly planned 50th Anniversary tour in 2012. Its not too late!
The real magic was Keith and Taylor together. So different but combined they were untouchable. Keith often talked about the guitar weaving he did with Ronnie but this is some of the best interplay between players in the history of music. Then throw in the greatest front man in the business and you have the Stones at their peak and near the very top of R & R greatness.
2:53 that riff keith keeps playing over and over at this point is sick, mick T might have been the better axe man but you can tell in keiths playing who's band it is.
cracker - yeah back then it was Keith's band, a GUITAR band, but now it's the Jagger travelling circus with backup singers and the focus away from this kind
of musicianship. Loved a recent Keith interview when he said: Sure I miss Taylor.. enough said - MLC
@mcddtlc yeah, i hear ya. i never liked the Stones, but a friend of mine who's a serious Blues buff sent me this as a rebuttal. if they still sounded like this when i came along, i woulda liked them, but they aren't that good now.
I have seen multiple posts by guitar players that decry Keef's playing ability in comparison to Mick Taylor's. Bullshit. Keith is the engine that drives the car, like a 454. Keith =the Beat; The beat= rock AND roll; Keith= rock AND roll. Keith is able to get inside a guitar riff better than anybody ever (that is why he loves ACDC so much) That being said: I love Mick Taylor. This is my favorite 2 guitarists ever together (even over Allman and Clapton on Layla).
Nice reading ! But you cannot compare to Duane and Dicky... they played the blues, Keith and Mick T's playing rock and roll. But surely Duane and Mick T are both great blues guitarists, maybee greatest
That too is a great observation. The Allmans, particularly Duane are about my favs, and do beat them in the blues and jazz contexts. But in Rock and Roll , these two Stones were so tremendous at laying down menacing and melodic rock and roll.
Fishlips0130 - I must agree 110% - and this Brussels Affair bootleg as a whole is the ultimate empirical proof of your words. This was the greatest Rockn'n'Roll band in the world - ever.
@Fishlips0130 Youve got MIck Taylor and Angus Young but without Malcomb Young or Keith Richards there is no ACDC or Stones. Of course on the other hand the Stones went on without Taylor but ACDC couldnt go on without Angus. But of course the Stones never sounded like this on stage again!!!
@Fishlips0130 this is good but the rhythm machine (bill wyman, charly watts + guitar) works a lot harder steady rolling on live `69 madison square garden....
Put a Gibson SG or Les Paul in Mick Taylor's hands and the world is suddenly a better place! And if he should happen to have a bottle neck on his finger then get ready to change your shorts!
Ahh the best version of this Rock opera ever recorded. Had it on Bootleg Vinyl since the Mid seventies. Ronnie Wood don't even get close to this standard. Bring back Taylor for one last world Tour i say.

i dont think keith has been able to play like this for some years now though. i think Keith is thankful Mick is still a driving force of the band.

Great take on the Stones.. My two cents..
Love early Stones .. Brian Jones lefted Keith.. Then Mick T. did it again...
Mick T. made them a great live band.
