Memories of all the old house parties in my neighborhood (Boyle Heights) back in the late 60's and early 70's. I remember the whole room smelling like "Three Flowers Pomade" and "Old Spice"aftershave . lol Those were firme days.
'Every Beat Of My Heart' was originally recorded by the Royals led by Charlie Sutton in 1952 on the Federal label # 12064. The Pips covered it in 1960 on the Huntom label # 2510. Then it was re-recorded on the Fury label # 1050 in 1961. The Huntom rendition was re-released in 1961 on Vee-Jay #386. There have been subsequent recordings as by Gladys Knight & Pips. Not sure what recording this one is?
This is the second version(Fury) from 1961, the original one from 1960 had an acoustic upright bass played in it, while this version here, there's an electric bass guitar played in it.
i love this song ..i must of listened to this song at least 15 + times ..it is beautiful ...soooo ditto ....my soul mate... it has never changed ....EVER..
i have been seraching for this song forever-- was this not originally recorded by a ddo wop group. 1950,s please let me know papajOJO @hotmail,com-- or is this the original?
Wasn't this written by Johnny Otis? Please, someone, confirm this for me! It's the song that put Gladys on the map...the absolute best female singer of my lifetime. I remember a "Day On The Green" concert in the 80's, at the Oakland Coliseum, where for some reason the promoters had decided to put Gladys on next to last, and have Morris Day close the show (huge mistake)...Gladys, as always, blew the place away, and halfway into Morris Day's opening song people were leaving by the thousands!
Memories of my childhood in Boyle Heights (East LA), prepating to go out with my homeboys on a Friday night Aliso Village ,starched khakis, spitshined Imperials creased bowling shirts and lots of Three Flowers pomade on my curly hair. lol
I love oldies ;)
