I need help immediatly i played naive and removed that skinny screen that makes the touch screen work when i put it back on no response from the touch screen
my friend tried to replace the screen under the touch screen, took it all apart put it back together and now it wont power or turn on did he somehow fry the circuit board or did he just forget to so something while disembling it and now its gone ...i want to fix it but it seems like i have to buy a used/broken one to fix it
anyone know a solution to my scenario?or think it maybe because of some other reason?
Overall excellent video! Thanks for posting - From the looks of it, it appears that you have done a few of these before - however one comment; I would suggest installing the touch screen cable first and then the bottom screen cable. The reason why is because you can place the MB and the screen on a flat surface and work the TS cable into that much too small cable clamp decreasing the possibility of muffing up the clamp as I did. Fumbling with both and aligning the cable was a bit too much
The tiny ribbon cable for the touch screen on mine simply refuses to go into the port. I've been trying for over an hour. I've finally managed to get it in, but it's gone in part way and it won't budge any further. :s It's infuriating me so much. It's like all crimped and everything... :(
The little black flap that connects the ribbon cable to the motherboard fell off what can I do? It's missing where you connect the small ribbon cable to the back of the mother board on the top.
OK my DSI screen IS NOT IN SHAPE cause the Sides Its Like MOVES BY IT SELF like drawing flipnotes. when i draw around the DSI box,THe RIGHT side MOVES to the middle. same PROblem on the lower left corner. HOW CAN I FIX IT?!??! ps My ds is DSI XL
@amosallami01 yes thats what happend to me so I followed the turorial and fixed it. The cable that connects the bottom and top is called the ribbon cable just to let you know. :)
@amosallami01 no you need a new top screen cause the bottom dosent have the ribbon cable that connects the top to the bottom. So you need the top screen. Just tell me if you need help.
@amosallami01 the top screen is the one that has the ribbon cable that connects to the bottom. the bottom connects on ly to the motherboard of the bottom side. try to looke at pictures of top ds replacement or something like that.
I tried this, and everything seems to be working, except my touch screen is really faded now. I can see it if I hold it at an angle, but not clear straight on. I have no clue what I did wrong. It works well enough for my little kids I guess though.
I have replaced my touch screen after following this guide and now it won't calibrate at all - there is just an endless loop of tapping the squares. I haven't put the plastic border on yet, but don't want to if I'll just have to replace the touchscreen again. Could dirt underneath the screen from when I put the tape back on have done this or is there an easy fix?
@DearsRenRen buy a new case on ebay and break the old one, I had to do it because my friend tried to dissassemble with a screw driver that was too big
ok idk what to do, when putting the ribbon cable back as shown at 8:00 the little black part that holds it down came off, and i cant find a way to put it back on, it seems impossible... is there any other way to hold this rbbon cable down? or am i screwed
No problems replacing the touch screen on a DSLite here, this video was extremely helpful. And better quality than many of the others I checked, especially good camerawork here.
heat up the touch screen with a hair dryer set on low; it will not damage the screen since it is a hair dryer and it will make the adhesive come off easier (If you put it on high, the adhesive will heat up to quickly and it won't come off as easy). I learned it the hardway, I was pulling it apart and the LCD screen cracked. I did it again with the hair dryer and I was successful
and all you need is the touch screen for the touch if thats the problem and not the actual lcd right? I have this problem where the screen is constantly pressing upper left even when you press anywhere else so I figure thats what I need to replace. calibration also doesn't work when I hit red box so thats not the issue.
Hey just curious do you have to remove the mic and clips to get to the touch screen? It doesn't look like you have to remove those just to open it up so just curious if it's absolutely necessary. Also when you say you have to unclip it here @ 3:34 I didn't notice you removing anything so just concerned cause you say you unclip it here but you didn't remove the yellow tape itself but something else I can't see. I am looking into repairing my ds because the bottom screen doesn't register the touch

Great videos! I was able to repair my daughters DS Lite very quickly. It was such a snap that I even volunteered to repair two others for family members. Two failed top screens, one scratched bottom screen. Thanks for sharing.
My touch screen isn't working properly. Let's say I wanna touch a button, I have to touch the screen slightly to the left of the button for it to work. I have tried calibrating it, but it's not possible to touch the little red boxes. Is there anyway to fix this?
@O5C4Rify Try unclipping the touch screen ribbon cable (the small one) and reseating it.
It's possible the thin metal cables inside the ribbon cable snapped, like mine have.
Fiddle with the wire and power it on while touching the screen, you'll need to disassemble it while testing this, moving the cable while touching the touch screen will determine if your ribbon cable is slightly broken.
My Ds lite is fine top screen working bottom screen slightly working. Touch responses work and light is on but the colors are off or contrast everything is so bright and I can barely see. This happened because water got into it and im wondering if its fixable
same thing here. i replaced the screen, and now the orange charge light comes on for a split second, then shuts off. ive ttried over and over to retrace my steps, but it still doesnt work-what have i done wrong???

When i try to turn on my ds, the green light comes on, then the top screen flashes white for a split second and then shuts off. Do I have to replace the screen? Or is it a simple fuse bridge?
@jetflyer96 Its a fuse problem, I know because the same thing happened to my old ds lite, a quick fix i did for it, was leave it on and flashing for like half an hour or more with the charger in, then when it stays on for a bit of time, lower the brightness, dont get the brightness all the way up to 4, and it should work fine
Used this to replace the LCD part of the bottom screen. Replacement did not have the rear of the LCD insulated. Didn't think, too late now, have blow SMD fuse on motherboard. :(
Hi all, This video is great... just fixed my sisters DS. Wanted to share a problem I came across. When I first turned the ds back on, the green light came on (and stayed on) but neither screen turned on. I found the problem was the part with the soft padding on it, just above the fiddly little ribbon connector. It has the connector for the black mic lead on it. Anyway, somehow I had lifted that a little. I gently clicked back in and it fixed the problem. Hope that helps someone!
Sweet. My son started it, my wife dogged him halfway thru the project, I ended up taking it over, and he put on the very final touches. Touch screen replaced. DS still works.
I told my son that back in the late 80's we used to take this crap apart and hope that we could put it back together, working.
my touch screen have some black line and that line became big is my ds alreally broke the lcd screen but i can still play it but im not touching the touch screen
What's the name of the song? By the way awesome video! I would say it helped me a lot, but apparently my mom already knows how to fix it so I didn't have to anyways. :/ This will still be useful some other time, though. Thanks again for making this!
can somebody help me out with this. Ok so my DS is charged and everything so that cant be the problem. I turn it on and it goes to the screen that tells you to reaad the saftey manual before playing or whatever. You know, the very first screen. So anyways the screen says touch to continue, so obviously i touch the screen. It doesnt continue unless you press A. So thats one problem. Then after you continue the whole screen turns white and stays that way.
@julialou1998 I don't know whats wrong. My mom is thinking about getting some type of loan from my grandmother to get a new one and I really don't want her too. That's why i asked on youtube. I would really appriciate the help. :)
@julialou1998 well ive known people who had the same experience. you can try taking it apart. or blowing on the sockets. or you can take it to gamestop to repair it or sell it. sorry, wish i had more to tell you.
@demonwolfdawg ok....I reseated the ribbon like 3 times and now it works (the top screen ribbon) BUT my screens are all messed up, there really dark and sort of disorited
is it the ribbon? (the DS lite has been in a box in a garage for almost 2 years and had taken a fall last use (2 years ago)
Could you please help me?! The tab for the touch screen on the m/board while I was taking the ribbon of pupped off, and now I am left with no tab on it, is there a fix for that at all? or should I kiss goodbye my DS for my little son and forget it ?! :(
now I have another problem. namely the upper-building is blurred and it flickers. VR1 and VR2 is interrupted what should I do? I hope I get a quick answer yours faithfuly.
why does everyone feel the need to put the same (C) RAP music on every video on youtube post these days. Isn't anyone original anymore? No offense intended to this posters' great content. not meant to flame you... just an observation.
I too had no black flip lock/snap lock on the tiniest ribbon cable. I never saw one. How DO you attach it? Is there a newer method that does not include a snap down black piece?
I have a dsi and my bottom touch screen is black when turned on, you can still see the screen but the pictures for everything are negative and load super slow (the pictures looks like a picture in the wii photo channel if you use the photo mood editing zap option)
oh man i have to waste money for new touch screen, whoever owned it first wasnt very clean with it n id rather have a new 1 if i have to waste money to fix it.
does it work for black smudge on touch screen, i found a broken pink ds lite n all it needs is a working touch screen. it works to touch but u cant c anything
@SuperMarioFan293 Dont worry if you dont have a triwing screwdriver a small flat head and a firm hand works just as good. Get yourself a set of small flat head screwdrivers -easily available in optitions and hardware stores.
Screen replacement went well, thanks for the very detailed video. I now have a new problem. The DSl will no longer start up after the screen replacement. I went back and doubled checked all the connections and reseated them just in case. Still nothing. Orange LED->turn on->quick flash of the screen then shuts off.
Well yes I did. I went back and cleaned all the connectors and contacts and made sure they were all in right, guess one of them wasn't quite seated right. Keep trying, take your time and maybe you'll get it to go. Good luck.
@MikenMarty Hey man, I'm almost 100% certain that you have a fuse problem. Just search here or on google for ds lite fuse, if you haven't found the solution yet, and you will be able to find videos on it
@MikenMarty Mine is doing that too! I contacted the company and told them they sent me a faulty lcd screen, but the new one is doing the same thing. The old broken one works when I put it in though. Anybody know what's up here?
@MikenMarty I finally figured out why the DS would not come back on after I replaced the lcd. The replacement lcd did not have a protective layer on the back of it to keep it from shorting out the logic board. I had to put electrical tape on the back of it to match the original. tada! working :) It's really confusing as to why the manufacturer did not put the protective layer on it just like the original has.

my ds lite fell hard and now the touch screen is broken/smashed, the touch screen just shows white with black cracks in it, the touch screen still works when i press on it, but will this fix the crack problem?
wow! this guy ur awesome. thanks to u, i just gave my ds lite a whole new remodel, new screens and everything! and it was cheaper than sending it in to nin10doh!

This was a great video. I performed the touch screen replacement without any issues. The only thing I would make a little more apparent is how to lift the black level when releasing the ribbon cables. The video shows the presenters thumb over that part and it is not very clear on what exactly you are support to lift. I figured it out but it would probably help others.

You guys rock my socks. I would have had a harder time if you didn't put up videos for these kinds of things. Thanks to you, i didn't need to ship it out my DS and have someone fix it for me for a pretty penny, I did it all myself. Again, thank you.
I really really advise against doing this. It's a great video but no matter how careful you are, you're liable to break your power switch off (It's a tiny bit of plastic no more than a mm across) and then you've ruined your DS unless you're really good with a soldering iron and can replace the whole thing.
on that tiny clip, I broke the little black clip off, but the metal parts are still intact. Would it still work? And why does it matter if the black plastic piece is of?
wtf!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!my ds is off at the right hand side of the screen,i tried calibrationg,i tried cleaning it with anything i cood find, and wen im in pictochat,i cant send a messagae!i have 2use the start button and its kinds pointy and it hurts to send!!!!...i even tried gamestop locally!they woodnt fix it or even tell me how to fix it!!!!all they sed was"oh,you cant fix that area, youd have to buy a new one for $150.00...sorry."
@Mrfitrider1 you can try getting a new battery? mine does that but my bro broke the top screen by smashing it and taking off the light cover so it just flashes :/ im using my moms ds now...

Excellent video.
1. You move too fast quite often - slow down so we can see what you are doing
2. Without double-sided tape the repair-job is not going to work on a really old unit.
Have decided it's a bit tricky and will rather send back to the shop.

Sweet. My son started it, my wife dogged him halfway thru the project, I ended up taking it over, and he put on the very final touches. Touch screen replaced. DS still works.
I told my son that back in the late 80's we used to take this crap apart and hope that we could put it back together, working.
With your vid, it was no worries. Thanks, homie.

What's the name of the song? By the way awesome video! I would say it helped me a lot, but apparently my mom already knows how to fix it so I didn't have to anyways. :/ This will still be useful some other time, though. Thanks again for making this!

Hi,
can somebody help me out with this.

julialou1998 1 year ago
@julialou1998 well ive known people who had the same experience. you can try taking it apart. or blowing on the sockets. or you can take it to gamestop to repair it or sell it. sorry, wish i had more to tell you.

@demonwolfdawg Im sure that the small ribbon for the touch screen is in right
(I had an old ds that lost sensitvity and im sure it was that ribbon was disconnected and the ds never shut down after half a second)
demonwolfdawg 1 year ago
@demonwolfdawg ok....I reseated the ribbon like 3 times and now it works (the top screen ribbon) BUT my screens are all messed up, there really dark and sort of disorited
is it the ribbon? (the DS lite has been in a box in a garage for almost 2 years and had taken a fall last use (2 years ago)

the tiny ribon cable that makes the touch screen work, how far in does it have to go?
Hatter269 1 year ago
I slid the ribbon cable of the touch screen back into the black slot and locked it firmly, but the DS wouldn't turn on, what do I do?

I too had no black flip lock/snap lock on the tiniest ribbon cable. I never saw one. How DO you attach it? Is there a newer method that does not include a snap down black piece?

Screen replacement went well, thanks for the very detailed video. I now have a new problem. The DSl will no longer start up after the screen replacement. I went back and doubled checked all the connections and reseated them just in case. Still nothing. Orange LED->turn on->quick flash of the screen then shuts off.
Any hints?

@MikenMarty I have the same problem. did you manage to fix it?
ChibiParty 1 year ago
@ChibiParty
Well yes I did. I went back and cleaned all the connectors and contacts and made sure they were all in right, guess one of them wasn't quite seated right. Keep trying, take your time and maybe you'll get it to go. Good luck.
MikenMarty 1 year ago
@MikenMarty I'd urge you to recheck the ribbon connections. If they are indeed seated properly, then you may have a damaged ribbon cable.
wzrds3 1 year ago
@MikenMarty Hey man, I'm almost 100% certain that you have a fuse problem. Just search here or on google for ds lite fuse, if you haven't found the solution yet, and you will be able to find videos on it
kassman17 1 year ago
@MikenMarty Mine is doing that too! I contacted the company and told them they sent me a faulty lcd screen, but the new one is doing the same thing. The old broken one works when I put it in though. Anybody know what's up here?

@MikenMarty I finally figured out why the DS would not come back on after I replaced the lcd. The replacement lcd did not have a protective layer on the back of it to keep it from shorting out the logic board. I had to put electrical tape on the back of it to match the original. tada! working :) It's really confusing as to why the manufacturer did not put the protective layer on it just like the original has.

This was a great video. I performed the touch screen replacement without any issues. The only thing I would make a little more apparent is how to lift the black level when releasing the ribbon cables. The video shows the presenters thumb over that part and it is not very clear on what exactly you are support to lift. I figured it out but it would probably help others.

edgeheads9 1 year ago
I really really advise against doing this. It's a great video but no matter how careful you are, you're liable to break your power switch off (It's a tiny bit of plastic no more than a mm across) and then you've ruined your DS unless you're really good with a soldering iron and can replace the whole thing.
