"Love" in this context comes from the Greek word meaning "non-sexual love"; the kind of love one would have for God. In this case, this is the love for a long-awaited messiah, the one who would reconcile humanity and heaven. This is not even emotional love, or attachment; Christ made it clear that he would leave them, and soon.
