Holy crap I have been looking for this song since 2005... They played it live in Vancouver when i saw them and I couldnt find it anywhere after that!!!
a girl who was a fan and had attended a Killers concert, was killed a few months later by her psycho boyfriend. The band happened to hear about it on the news and Brandon got the inspiration to write these lyrics from the girl's mom's point of view. they asked her if they could put it on the sawdust album (i think, not positive) but she refused.

This came out prior to Sam's Town & Sawdust, during their Hot Fuss tour. I believe the mom contacted the Killers first and requested them not to profit from it. I recall Brandon feeling so overcome by guilty that he agreed and has felt sorry ever since.
i feel like it's from the boyfriend's point of view, the murderer's. Cuz, like, he's convinced himself that it wasn't him who killed her and the trauma erased the memory. Cuz it says "your mother looked scared" unless she's talking in 3rd person, that means it can't be from the mother's perspective.
I can see how it would seem like that a first glance, but it means the mother was watching the boyfriends mother. when the police came to his house to talk to his parents, because he had run away to hide.

In my eyes the lyrics from Sam's Town have much more meaning and depth than those of Hot Fuss. And Day & Age....well its just weird, but still has great lyrics. Dustland Fairytale? or what about Goodnight, Travel Well which is about the death of a band member's mother. Neon Tiger about being who you are and not letting people change you and use you?
It sounds like it is from a parental view, since most of the language isn't the intimate kissy-goo-goo type of love, it's the mutual you're my world type.
It's supposed to be the victim's mother point of view while she's talking to the killer. When she says ''your mother looked scared'' she's talking abt the killer's mother.
i used to be really into the killers (not so much any more) up until the release of sam's town, this was always one of my favourite tracks and i really wanted a studio version of it to be released. still would like it really, although it'll never happen.

It is like artists have to lower their quality and originality just to make everyone like them. There used to be a kind of crudeness and sincerity in Brandon's lyrics, now they are dumb.
Last week I went to their concert, I am glad I didn't have to pay anything. Back in 2006 I waited 4 hours outside the arena just to be front row-center: TOTALLY WORTH IT!

it's not directly related. here's the story:
a girl who was a fan and had attended a Killers concert, was killed a few months later by her psycho boyfriend. The band happened to hear about it on the news and Brandon got the inspiration to write these lyrics from the girl's mom's point of view. they asked her if they could put it on the sawdust album (i think, not positive) but she refused.

Thanks for sharing, interesting story. So this song had no relation to the trilology stories. S the girlfriend was killed after Midnight show was released and they probably preformed it at the concert that poor girl had went to, trippy huh?

This came out prior to Sam's Town & Sawdust, during their Hot Fuss tour. I believe the mom contacted the Killers first and requested them not to profit from it. I recall Brandon feeling so overcome by guilty that he agreed and has felt sorry ever since.

i feel like it's from the boyfriend's point of view, the murderer's. Cuz, like, he's convinced himself that it wasn't him who killed her and the trauma erased the memory. Cuz it says "your mother looked scared" unless she's talking in 3rd person, that means it can't be from the mother's perspective.

I can see how it would seem like that a first glance, but it means the mother was watching the boyfriends mother. when the police came to his house to talk to his parents, because he had run away to hide.

well, i have the whole sam's town album on my ipod, and this song was all the other songs on the album... but i'm not really sure though, because when i looked at the actual album, it didn't list this song, so i'm not sure

In my eyes the lyrics from Sam's Town have much more meaning and depth than those of Hot Fuss. And Day & Age....well its just weird, but still has great lyrics. Dustland Fairytale? or what about Goodnight, Travel Well which is about the death of a band member's mother. Neon Tiger about being who you are and not letting people change you and use you?

It sounds like it is from a parental view, since most of the language isn't the intimate kissy-goo-goo type of love, it's the mutual you're my world type.

It's supposed to be the victim's mother point of view while she's talking to the killer. When she says ''your mother looked scared'' she's talking abt the killer's mother.

i used to be really into the killers (not so much any more) up until the release of sam's town, this was always one of my favourite tracks and i really wanted a studio version of it to be released. still would like it really, although it'll never happen.

I agree too.
It is like artists have to lower their quality and originality just to make everyone like them. There used to be a kind of crudeness and sincerity in Brandon's lyrics, now they are dumb.
Last week I went to their concert, I am glad I didn't have to pay anything. Back in 2006 I waited 4 hours outside the arena just to be front row-center: TOTALLY WORTH IT!

I mean, I can understand if you think 'Human' is dumb, but it's not bad. It's mostly the chorus.

People think Human is dumb because they don't know that Dancer is meaning puppet. Like are we human or are we a puppet that is just being controlled. It says in there, "cut the cord." it is about how we are just turning into robots.

Human is the most clever song lyrically I have ever heard, its calling people fake without basically everyone not realising.
Dancer also meaning being a follower, not in control of their decisions, brilliant.
