  • COol!

  • He Helps the big guys, How KIND!!!..

If MCcain would do something like this??, His back goes to hell..

  • McCain is too old to do this line of work.

  • THANKS MCCAIN!!!!!!?????????

  • whn he was in quincy i got to shake his hand and my dad got to meet him!

  • Please win this election. We are sick and tired of Bush's policies. McCain is not any better.

  • Obama helps flood victims while John McCain's campaign publicly wishes for a terrorist attack on US soil to help McCain get elected.

Can the choice here be more clear?

  • GOD BLESS YOU!

  • vote for change! go obama! it's nice of him to go out and help the midwest. i used to live in il, but in peoria county, but i didn't get hit by the flood there cuz i didn't live by the creeks or rivers. i hope they get out of the flood water soon enough.

  • 08AMA should win The President because he has GREAT VIEWS & BETTER JUDGEMENT.

PRESIDENT MATERIAL...very intelligent, can work most definitely under pressure, more calm and assertive dealing foreign countries, more honest candidate compare to the other two.He put 100 times more effort than any other candidate.

    from Sydney Australia,

    Isa

  • As far as I'm concerned, this is my president right now.

  • I'm glad Obama helped the people.

  • An honest man doing an honest thing. love you man.

BTW where is bush and mccain? lobbying?

  • Obama was on the ground in the first days.

It took Bush and McCain over a week and neither filled sand bags. Obama sent us an email an we Obama supporters got out and volunteered to HELP!!

  • what an amazing human being. i love you!

    Obama 08' !!!

  • i got to see him here. :)

  • Way to go Mr. President. I'm fired up and ready to help too. Hmmmm this must be the only construction job in the country that doesn't have illegal immagrants working. Ohh silly me, this is volunteer work to save a community, not for profit to send back to Mexico...

  • he actually did work here filling sandbag's and went because he wanted to draw attention to the flood's they didn't become major news until after he went here and while he was here talking he was saying how he wanted as many people to come and help if possable even from his campaign! now that's a leader Obama 08

  • Damn, I could have visited him if I really wanted to...

  • President Obama Getting down and dirty as usual for the cause!

Everytime i see him i love him more and more!

  • he is the true leader of our nation!!! god bless America!!!

  • great! OBAMA'08 OBAMA'08 OBAMA'08 !!!

  • "way to jump in Obama" god knows Americans can't wait for Bush to help out(think katrina)!

  • Its not the feds job to fix this stuff. When they do they screw it up like almost everything else they do. The last thing I need is FEMA thugs with armed troops behind them bossing me around. It's my home, I will fix it. The only thing we need fed assistance on is medical.

  • you are already separating yourself from bush and mccain. where were they when all of this happen? well mccain was fundraising with the big oil in texas and bush probably flew over in his jet and you are actually on ground zero. i'm glad you actually care. OBAMA08

  • "good to see the national guard is here..."

*camera cuts to a couple of national guardsmen jerking around*

    lawlz!

  • Not to mention that Obama was there a full week before the floods recieved national headlines...he didn't just wait for the media to pick it up, he forced them to...that is what a real leader does...GO OBAMA!!!!

  • GREAT POINT!!!

  • For all the negative people - What are you doing to help?

  • you mean

president Obama Helps Out with Flood Relief in Quincy, IL

  • I'm glad Obama helped out and asked others to volunteer.

  • A true man of the people who will become our next president. He didn't "fly over" many days later to "examine" the damage like Bush did during Katrina. Obama was actually there among the people pitching in a helping hand. Obama is correct.... We ARE the ones we've been waiting for. Go Mr. President!!!

  • This is America's hope! Obama is the man. And I'm pretty sure that he will win in November.

  • America have good peoplese! My Country (germany) is very egoistic...i want to go in America! :D

  • Aww thank you! =D

  • cindy mccain's cookies taste like 100 years of war.

  • ...why is Obama talking so much while he's working? If he's there to help with sandbagging, he should be focusing on working instead of making a impromptu speech to these people.

  • adolphus: That's what a true leader does. They speak and raised hope. You are such a dunce.

  • gee, i don't know.. maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's surrounded by reporters. regardless, talking to the press didn't distract him from dumping sand into a bag. just because you can't chew gum and walk at the same time doesn't mean Obama can't.

  • he just cant do anything without being critisized huh? maybe if he passed gas he'd get the satisfaction from you of being human

  • Obama 08 !

  • Stop telling them how to dig Barack, you're not in charge. Careful! Don't soil the good shirt Rocky! "Shelly, honey can you bring out the Tide pen!"

  • Maybe he could fill up the bag that John McCain is holding. Wait a minute...McCains not there is he??? Not even for a photo op!

  • um isnt illinois broke, yup time to move on to dc, as for the flood , theres a 500 yr flood bout every 18 to 20 yrs, why, the bottom of the rivers coming up, its filling in but due to idiotic environmental laws it wont be dredged, levee's wont be maintained.

these guys make me sick with there photo ops.

  • I read up on his past, before he got into public service. He graduated from Harvard school of law, instead of taking a high paying job, he felt obligated to help a poor community to cope with plant closings in S.Chigago. He accepted an offer from a church in that neighborhood for $20,000 a year and a car that had rust spots all over it. America needs him.

  • Complete photo op for him. Personally if I was to go help I would not be wearing pressed pants and a shirt

  • Good political move. * for you.

  • Guys, you can't have it both ways. You criticize folks like Bush for not showing up in Louisiana but yet you criticize Obama for trying to help.

If you knew anything about him, you would know that he's a community organizer, which is why he has reached out to all of his supporters to volunteer or help.

He's shoveling because he's leading by example, not just for a photo shoot.

Where's McCain by the way? At some $1,000 a seat Town Hall meeting?

  • This is about as far as this guy should have got in life. I'm surprised he doesn't advocate that we need to pull the people away from the Mississippi before more die.

  • He seems to be too busy telling the World the great things he's doing instead of breaking a sweat while filling the sand bags.

"Do you see President Bush out there bagging sand? NO He's dumbfounded!"

  • Lemmings running off a cliff....

  • This is the only time he has ever picked up a shovel. And I wonder how long that lasted. Maybe 2 mins?

  • I'm sorry but this guy is not much of a leader. This is just political pandering. Look at him in his nice clothes, shoveling shit to the American people! He probly spent about 3 minutes doing this & then went to his air conditioned bus for a glass of ice tea & some finger sandwiches. A real leader would have been as pasionate about helping the effort to bag sand as he would be giving a campaign speech. Shouting orders, encouraging people, really doing something. This guy is just a good actor.

  • Why weren't you there filling sand bags? Where is our current president? where is McCain? At least he is trying to get help, regardless to how long he was out there!

  • wow if i lived in USA he would have my vote

  • his church clothes and his stop-the-flood clothes are the same!

  • We were in West Quincy, sandbagging on Saturday. Couldn't figure out why the trucks stopped running that were delivering sandbags from Quincy. Then we found out the "savior" was "helping" fill sandbags. They wouldn't let trucks load while he was there.

  • What I see is a bunch of 'awed' spectators standing around staring at Obama instead of getting any work done. That's why Pres. Bush decided to fly over New Orleans after Katrina instead of landing and disrupting rescue and relief efforts.

  • President Bush FLEW over New Orleans, because he had no choice. However, after flying over, he still did next to nothing.

  • that was dumb he was a foot soldier down there with the people before it even made the news where was bush and mccain and as far as bush is concerned he wasnt going to help katrina victims in the first place five days before they got help man please stop hating and critisizng and help find a way to make a better world ass

  • I think it's great that he helped out. Did he break a sweat though?

  • Great job just showing up, that's more then that most criminal president has done. We are sold out by the Corps of Bush. Patriotic is the country who supports it's country. We have given all the jobs over seas That's Patriotic! Yet we entertain the thought of John Mccain what a joke? I pray for the USA to stay USA but I see we have been sold out. Is that Patriotic? EMIY

  • I'm so proud of Obama for not being afraid to get dirty to help people.

  • While this was happening, Bush was having tea with the Queen of England. AWOL again in a time of tragedy.

  • most of you put down Obama ,let me say this did i see little john there no no no no, i live in quincy, this was a great surprise to us for him to come in, if everyone would do just a little suring times like this the world would be better off

  • While I believe Obama is a respectable person, and I have nothing politically against him, I voted for Hillary because I think she is better at making the big decisions... Obama seems to take several days to think things over and relies to heavily on a staff. I sincerely hope that he respects the votes of the 17 million plus people who voted for her when he considers his VP. It wasn't a typical election, it was nearly a tie, and she holds more juice than anyone that's ever lost a primary.

  • Mega

    Mega

    Cool

Good Job, setting a good example.

    BARACK OBAMA 08

  • Check out the GOP's Website... They mention Obama 15 times with 4 pictures of him but NOT ONE mention of McCain at all.

If the National GOP isn't comfortable with even mentioning McCain, why should anyone be comfortable voting for him?

  • look at the new President

  • Obama accepts no criticism

  • Starting to look like his buddies Jimmy Carter and Jesse Jackson. Nothing but photo ops.

  • Are those his shoveling slacks and shoes?

  • i live in quincy and Obama is the man.btw where is McCain in all this?Obama is the one who cares for America and is taking action to to help preserve it.with hilary by his side,he is unbeatable

  • The only guy suitable for president

  • there is no one running that is suitable. This country is in serious trouble.

  • for sure

  • i know it's supposedly unpolitically correct, but why would i waste my vote on some guy that appears to still be suffering from ptsd, and who very well might drop dead from heart failure the day after he's sworn in, if his health holds out that long. has anyone checked insurance actuarial tables in re. : the average life expectancy of caucasian males? war hero? mcbush screwed up,lost an expensive piece of machinery, and then got caught. opportunist yes, hero no.

  • LOL nice. Totally agree.

  • Amen.

  • ptsd?

i'm more worried about senility. age-related dementia onset averages around age 71-74.

  • He seems to be too busy telling the World the great things he's doing instead of breaking a sweat while filling the sand bags.

  • badegg5- Where the hell was McCain and Bush for that matter? McCain was at a political fundraiser for his campaign and released a 2 sentence statement about this tragedy and Bush was still showing off in Europe during his last trip there as President and I'm sure Europeans are releaved. I do know that there were celebrations in the streets of Europe at this final good riddance to Bush. At least our next president was among the people lending a helping hand during a very trying time.

  • Obama does great things with Other people's money and he doesn't have to be the one to directly rob working stiff Peter. His time can be focussed on giving Peter's earnings to

Paul's people before a news media audience.

  • Money doesn't grant physical strength.

  • Cool, but don't speak and work at the same time. ;-)

  • This is what a President is Suppose to do.

  • obama owns, but this is not actually what a "president is supposed to do." It is what a good person is supposed to do, but not the president. ;)

  • I live in Wisconsin but thankfully I live on a huge hill the only thing that the water did to me was not let me mow my lawn

  • I really like how he is helping, but just a suggestion, I think it would be a much more powerful message if he was filling up sandbags with his advisors and political team by his side helping... it would look much less like a photo op

  • More work, less talk.

  • Obama should take Mccain so they can both shovel sand into the sandbags together lol.

  • i think this man truly genuinely cares. not b/c it makes him look good. but b/c it is the right thing to do. in his heart he knows what we need as a president. a kind, down-to-earth man that understands the American people.

    Obama 08'

  • Obama, thanks for calling attention to *yourself* and diverting dozens of police/emergency workers from their work helping Iowans to providing security for you and your entourage and coordinating your media circus, so that you could get 30 seconds of video of you shoveling sand.

Responsible politicians stay out of the way until their presence wont detract from emergency efforts. But not Obama, NOTHING more important than a political opportunity!

Another great reason NOT to vote for Obama!

  • he is doing these "good deeds" to try to fool us..people no one is this great!! what is wrong with america! i am soo worried!!

  • i love obama but that digging was cheese!!!!!!!!!

  • What a different kind of candidate Sen. Obama is. He seems more like our president that the lying phony who currently sits in the Oval Office. This man will be our next president. God bless Sen. Obama and God bless Sen Obama. He will make our beloved counrty great again.

  • Barack is the man, but this is publicity stunt, common.

  • Publicity stunt perhaps, but perhaps also a way to make people engaged in the problems involved with this flood...

  • lame photo op.

  • I think if I was working the sand bag line to save my home I would be more inspired if he flew over in a family funded private jet at 2000 feet. Maybe Carl Rove could snap of photo with Obama in the foreground and me with a shovel in my hand 2000 feet below. Oh, wait, I'm a Democrat, I expect more from my leaders than fighter pilot flybys and prayers.

  • less talk, more work!

  • McCain only helps the rich people! Obama helps Poor, Middle Class, and the Rich!

  • I like Obama!!! He is a good man he helps people in need.

    martinmary555

  • I knew Barack would be helping out in a time of need. Even republicans I work with are voting for Barack. McCain's tv commercial is sad, I'm sorry he was a prisoner of war, but you cannot convince America that war can keep us safe. There's too much proof that it hasn't & it's created more terrorists. 3 Billion a day on war? 4,100 soldiers dead, many more maimed, mentally & physically. Thousands, upon thousands of jobs lost. U.S. economy tanking. Save America, Vote democrat!

  • where is Mc Stain ?

  • thank u so much for coming to quincy! i was so sad that the i missed your visit. I had bagged the day before and you came the next day! it would have been a HONOR to meet such a great man. thank you again and God bless you obama

  • What a refreshing change! Someone who personally cares and actually goes and helps out when disaster strikes. Actions speak louder than just words. Not just a fly-over!

  • i live there and it was such a honor to have you here! i was so upset that the day after i help you showed up T-T but thank you so much for coming it really made everyones day. best to luck with everything you do!

  • Yeah, he came down to get that free publicity, getting in the way of people doing real work, taking away from their contributions. This guy is a clown!

  • I don't know why anyone wouldn't vote for this man!

THIS IS THE PRESIDENT WE NEED! OBAMA 08!

  • McCain prays, Obama grabs a shovel.

  • This should become a new slogan.

  • that should be a slogan

  • phony

  • More or less phony than flying over a disaster area in Air Force One? Then spectacularly badly handling every aspect of it?

  • great

  • Thanks for using the media that follows you daily to call attention to the needs of our fellow midwesterners and plains-staters. I'm so proud that you didn't send your "I'll stand ready to help" regards from a high dollar fundraiser or do a causal "fly-over" the way McCain or Bush have done. God bless you Senator and God bless the USA!

  • Hes already acting Presidential!

    Good for him, wheres McCain?

  • McCain is sleeping... hes an old man, you know..

  • He can't even life his arms above his shoulders, so I wouldn't expect too much digging.

  • Taking his afternoon nap. Most seniors need their rest.

  • american hero

  • he is a good man

  • If you would stop B.S.ing you would be able to fill more sand bags!!!!!!!!!!! Politics, anything for politics!!!!!!

  • I wonder if the Obama campaign conducted a Focus Group to determine what color work gloves Barry should wear.

  • AWESOme !!!WE ARE SOMEONE'S MIRACLE SO BE A BLESSING!!!

  • how come this is not on national news

  • because then national news might actually become legitimate in it's caring for human life instead of profit...which won't happen in this century.

  • amart2105, come on, you know why. ;)

  • because..........my guess is everyone would think that that what he did.......was just to get media attention...besides....Youtube is more pwerfull........cause number 1) its free and number 2) more people look online rather then TV.

    what you think?

  • Seeing this is such a welcome change from what we've come to expect from our President or Presidential candidates. It is so wonderful to see Barack taking time to help out people in a disaster area, it's just awesome.

  • i wonder why mccain wasnt there helping, it takes a real passionate heart to do that to get off the sidelines and help others besides yourself, you really are for the country, god bless you, your doing the lords work!

    obama 08

  • Whats going on in Quincy?? Obama fan from England!!!

  • good work!!

  • this shows that Obama is really the candidate for the working class American

    Go Obama!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wish I was an American so I could vote for him

  • I wonder if the Obama campaign conducted a focus group to determine what color gloves an aid should pick up at Home Depot.

  • OBAMA is good person

  • i hate obama i like mccane

  • nice to see example of generosity

  • a good example of generosity

  • THATS SOO LOVELY

  • I like Obama more and more everytime I see him and hear him talk.

I used to hate politics, now I'm inspired.

    Thanks Mr. President!

  • obama is the man.

  • He's a good man. I hope he becomes our next president.

  • This is great what he is doing...

  • I love this guy! Obama cares...

  • first to comment YAY!!!

  • Wow, this is great.

  • Let's see McCain do that. Sure, it's a photo-op, but isn't America a great place??

  • uuummmm?

first to comment on a video for the next US president

    go for it Mr Obama

  • McCain Prays while Obama takes the shovel !!!

We all know now who we want as our next president!!!

  • Mr President.

  • "Obama is changing politics from the ground up"

    Bob Dylan said that.

  • Great guys...

    Obama ' 08

  • GObama!

  • Thanks, Mr. Obama.

  • Barack's the man.

  • Where is Mccain?ah he is in iraq caring for HALLIBORTON

  • did not know this very nice of him thank you

  • Damn what a stud!

  • this is a little different reaction to a flood than our current president had during Katrina...

    We want change

  • great to volunteer and to link his website to the red cross and encourage folks to go help; way to go.

  • Put a Carhart hat on.

  • This is why he deserves to be our next president. You dont see Mccain out there shoveling dirt into sandbags do you? He's sitting at home, counting his Lobbyist checks.

  • He started out as a community organizer in Chicago.

  • Doing the do. Imagine.

  • How do I love this mans character?

    Let me count the ways!!!

    Obama '08

  • no, barack...WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOU!!!

    08'

  • Way to go Obama! Meanwhile, President Bush is having tea with Queen Elisabeth, McCain is planning a fundraiser with his rich Texas Oil friends and there's Obama out there with the people of this great country, where presidents should be!!!

  • This is our next president. A man who will get his hands dirty to help the American people.

What did Bush do when New Orleans was in crisis?

  • That's what makes you great! I love you Barack Obama! We are all in this together, that's the only way we can succeed as a country. All united, helping one another. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN DURING KATRINA, the Repubs don't give two damns about the people unless they are priviledged and white. Let's see what happens to these flood "refugees". We will get to see first hand the disparity. The poor are considered "unworthy" while the affluent are considered worthy and valuable.

  • he is just doing this to look good.

  • a leader that lead by example and principle that what mr obama represent.

  • such a good man

  • Thumbs up to u for sand baging.

  • "What I've realized is that life doesn't count for much unless you're willing to do your small part to leave our children -- all of our children -- a better world. Even if it's difficult. Even if the work seems great. Even if we don't get very far in our lifetime...That is our ultimate responsibility as fathers and parents."

    - Barack Obama, Fathers' Day address, June 15, 2008 (one day after he put these ideals into practice with the Quincy volunteers!)

  • Exelent video!!!!
