He must be given the up most respect. #1 He is not a boy. #2 the names of God given to man explains not only who He is but the relationship that we have with Him. The ultimate goal of bf/gf relationships is to find a life partner. Most ppl don't just marry someone, they date them for a while first to be sure that they have something in common. After eading some of the comments... all i can say is.. from when scripture says thet the church is the bride, and Jesus is the groom i can say no more...
The fact is in 1 Corinthians 7 Paul speaks about marriage and relationships, if u look at verses 32-35 you will see he says single people are concerned with the Lords affairs & if ur not single u are concerned more about ur sposes affairs, so ideally u r 2 out God 1st he "should" be ur everything. wow, to every judgemental commenter: ask for discernment of the Holy Spirit who will help you understand the boyfriend mentioned in this song is Christ. And, some messages are not for the understanding of unbelievers, but for the edification of the church (body of Christ), as Christ said in His word "I gave you milk for you were not ready yet" (paraphrased).... Jesus Christ is not your boyfriend!! He is your God!! What's the matter with you?! God has interest in marrying you and fathering children, nor should we act like that at all. Jesus Christ isn't going to eventually marry us and get it on with us!! You really don't know GOD at all. You know about Him, but clearly do not KNOW Him. Get saved for real. If you know anything about songwriting or poetry, you should know that metaphors and similes are used. ain't nothing wrong with this song! she IS talking about Jesus, as her man, the one she runs to, confides in, and loves more than anyone! it's a different way to approach the subject, but it's clear she is talking about Jesus (not that she doesn't say it multiple times) and it sends a clearly Christian message

But honestly, songs like these are to reach the youth because most younger people don't want to hear traditional gospel music like Marvin Saap or Donald Lawrence. I know I didn't when I got saved at 16. This is why people like MaryMary and Kiki sing songs like these. God bless and be blessed!

She's a beautiful artist, with an incredible talent, but I wasn't feeling this song! And this is coming from a young person, I am 27, and I will take "True Holiness" over this any day!!!!!

To me the point of this song is that u don't need a bf/ man/ boo to complete u. Jesus is the only person who can do that. When we look at society's version of dating, men r in the place of what Jesus is supposed to do in our life. She's just saying in her song that it's Jesus and no one else. Think about it. We are on different faith levels and are supposed to grow and mature. This just may be a baby Christian's revelation about getting out of a relationship that is not pleasing to God.

So yes Jesus is our Lord and Saviour but he also wants us to fall in love with Him because what they are saying He can treat us better and we can ask him to supply our needs instead of a man supplying their needs. note: I am a male but I am just explaining the situations for my sisters in the Lord.
