Also... YOU DONOT spread it arround wby applying preassure.. This will create airpockets wich in turn will counter the effect.
To apply thermal grease correctly you apply one - 2 dots of grease about the size of a rice seed.
After that you use an industrial razor or other thin application devices (Some compounds comes with a small plastic device that looks like an Scalpel)
And simply apply it by spreading it out EVENLY across the entire metal area creating an THIN layer of thermal grease.
A _little_ too much? Son, you could make a silver cream circuit sandwich with all that!
Also, a tube of silver compound costs like, five bucks. If anyone spends hundreds of dollars buying the components for a custom built, and cheaps out on the thermal grease, they deserve to smell their chips fry.

This guy has absolutley no idea what he is doing.... 1.. NEVER CLEAN a cpu with a cloth that can cause ESD.
2. You donot whipe Thermal grease off you CLEAN it off.. Using a high percentage alcohol based cleaning fluid... Such as Ethanol.
If you dont get an almost mirror finnish on the CPU area where the cooling block is attached then YOU DID IT WRONG.
