  • When you tear games apart for a living, you know how they tick.

  • For those that do not know...

    Yahtzee is the chosen one.

  • I wish I'd known this was on.I live in Brisbane and this would have been awesome.

  • Entertainment is all he is. He gives games brutal reviews so He can GET views. Who would watch his channel if he spent his time being optimistic? No one? Case closed. That said, I personally hate certain big titles such as Halo and thought that his review perfectly mirrored my thoughts, however I believe that he likes it same as the rest of the mooks. On the other hand I disagree with SOME of his quibbles about Bioshock, and maybe a few other games. Others I can heartily AGREE on.

  • @Majyxs I disagree with tons of his quibbles, but that's why he works. Instead of glowing, undercarriage-licking reviews that you can get anywhere, we've got one guy willing to turn over EVERY rock for EVERY little nitpick, and I think it's made purchasing games a lot easier because I know what's gonna be coming.

  • @zgates I don't give any respect to ass-kissing reviews either, but sometimes he has some inconsistencies; but those are negligible, simply because many aspects of his reviews are meant to be exaggerated. They work by actually getting the damn point across which many reviews struggle with, but they sometimes (and perhaps inadvertently) paint some games with glowing biohazard signs. So I'll just agree that he WORKS, but his methods are, shall we say, not entirely reliable. But he works.

  • @Majyxs But that's just it. He's NEVER presented himself as a "serious journalist". He's a nitpicky fucker with plenty of bias who mostly looks for ways to tear a game to shreds, and that's why he's gotten so successful. Anyone who think he's being a level-headed reviewer is responsible for whatever purchasing mistakes they make.

  • @zgates Sounds like he tore up a lot of games you like. For the record, he has ripped apart a lot of games I absolutely love, but its still entertaining to see him find major flaws in those games that the reviewers some how missed.

  • it is funny some ppl call him god or something similar

he is a comedian and like most other comedians he provide entertainment, and that's all

  • @KuhoinX he's not a god. He is just good at reviewing, critisizing, whatever. Like how he will trash big title games like Halo or Call of Duty for poor gameplay mechanics, weak story, or whatever else the "Real Reviewers" on sites like Gamespot, IGN, or Gamefaqs tend to ignore and automatically give a game a perfect score, then when I get it, I find the game is as entertaining as licking tree bark.

  • I used to like this guy quite a lot... but then... after couple years I realised most of his reviews just base arround tossing in random penis/cock/dick/cum/wank/etc jokes in every review he makes... this is getting old, srsly...

  • The screen flashes blood red at 6:14. is that a camera flash or satan?

  • Who else knew before he stood up that the guy in the front with the fedora was yahtzee?

  • @SaiyashaMisamurai right here

  • "No film or book asks you to personally step into the shoes of the main character."

That's exactly what great literature does; and by doing so we gain insight into our own existence, beliefs and behaviors. Tell me you don't put yourself in the shoes of Anna Karenina when you read that book. How many games require you to empathize with the main character? Now compare that number to the amount of games that are about shooting other peoples faces off. If that's art, you can keep it.

  • @Hektor88 no, thats just the problem with games. Books don't actually want you to become the character. You never personally take control of the action. The most that you can get from a reader is sympathy, not empathy.

  • @bloodwrage I disagree, but whatever, it's not really of great importance...

  • @Hektor88 It doesn't. It's not the same thing, at all.

  • @Hektor88 You do know that games are not solely reliant on combat, right? Just because a game involves shooting someone's face off doesn't mean games can never be art. Look at a popular example: Fallout 3, it's got some very gory combat stuff on the gameplay side, but check out the story, the characterization through dialogue instead of just text, the loads of possible roads you can take instead of one pre-defined plot, and the whole backstory from the two previous Fallout games.

  • @Hektor88 They're just as valid a medium for art as books and films are, it's only because most developers focus on stories involving combat, but this doesn't have to be the case, and this doesn't define gaming as a whole. I disagree with bloodwrage that one can't empathize with a character in a book, but it's much easier to get into an atmosphere when you can see and hear it, and when you're able to project yourself better when you are directly a part of the story.

  • @Hektor88 One last thing... There are bad games like Final Fantasy XIII, and then there are bad books like Twilight. ;)

  • Skip to 2:36 (yahtzee begins his speech)

  • What's with the red flash at 6:14

  • I'm Australian, so I support everything he does. I also met him on a cruise ship, which was pretty awesome as he's my favourite reviewer.

  • While I only agree with maybe 49-51 per cent of what the man says (Saints row two is a piece of crap, but so are jrpgs), I still think he's very very very exceptionally funny.

  • Um where can I find the rest of this speech?

  • @brainflash1 Perhaps the part two link, it's the very first "Suggestion" in the sidebar.

  • Comment removed

  • Yatzhee also hates 97% of the video games out there.

  • @BladeBlurX and the other 3% that he likes is Portal, Shadow of the colossus, and silent hill 2

  • @roboguy75 and spiderman 2....yeah that's kinda weird but true its in his top 5

  • @roboguy75 dont forget prince of persia sands of time lol

  • i like yahttzee most beacuse he dont just say something is shit he prove it as well. i like many games ive played he right but i still like some of them. good man never the less

  • @void735 No he doesn't. Just watch his Super Mario Galaxy 2 review. He openly acknowledges that the game is fun at the end but spends the entire rest of the review bitching about it. That's not proving anything; it's trolling. And it's pathetic.

  • @Sonicisbadazz why dont you look at sonic unleased and see how yatzee think about that

  • I have and its intentionally overexaggerated to make Sonic a character he and many other critics are tired of look like a has been. Even many of the critics are actually willing to acknowledge that it was miles better than Sonic Next-Gen though to be fair that might not be saying much. But Werehog or no Werehog the engine running the game functioned properly and the speed stages were as fast as Sonic is known. for Even a friend of mine who hates Sonic games said it was better than he expected.

  • trilby's notes :)

  • @YaMamStudios yeah...

  • haha you can se him in the audience ;) . . . thats a very pretty hat :3

  • I wish the introduction guy wud shut the hell up so Ben could come on, I came on to see Yahtzee not some poncey little Aussie.

  • I WANT DAT GODDAMN HAT

    screw u yahtzee

having a better hat than my top hat

  • Yahtzee, I wanna bear your children 0_0

    ...

Well, not really, but that's one sweet hat.

  • One time Yahtzee was House.

  • yahtzee you herculine exemplar would you please take your dick out of my eye socket.

  • @slyther2 its his act kind of like those people u named just then people you see on youtube in interviews or shows are not what they are like in real life

though he may be a wanker you cant be sure until you speak with him in person as a friend that's what people don't get its his act much like someone on a TV its just there act not what they are like in real life

zero punctuation would be shit if like every single game or was a nice person because that's what makes it so much fun to watch.123

  • Probably the only Game Critic that is an actual game critic.

  • I also wouldn't use the term God to describe him. He is very enlightened and nihilistic in his basic foundation of thinking.

  • 6:14

  • Yahtzee is cool because unlike ign and gamespot he won't say "this game is kinda good" He will say "This game is trash, don't play it!"

  • Considering almost every game barring Portal and Saints Row 2 he's reviewed he has called trash in some form...yeah.

  • ... and thief serie sans 3 and psychonauts.

  • Yahtzee's character stats from one of his reviews

(I think it was the soul calibur review)

    CHARISMA - NAUGHT

    MORALS - NAUGHT

    BILE - MAX

    STANDARDS - MAX

    HAT - MAX

  • if he was a disembodied sea slug i found at the bottom of the bottle of water i had just been drinking i would still love him if he was wearing that hat

  • i love how you can see his hat right at the start

    then he gets up

  • yahtzee talks fast!

  • I wouldn't go as far as to call Yahtzee god, but he is a pretty cool guy.

Plus he has a nice hat, and everyone knows that you always get points for having a nice hat.

  • @ThisFreakinLunatic Yes. He wears a Trilby. Get it? Like that awesome game he made...

  • @ThisFreakinLunatic you said it. He may not be a god, but he owns the heavanly hat shop.

  • Even when that hat is worn and full of holes, it'll sell on ebay for thousands of dollars

  • ...and Yahtzee will laugh hard at the ridiculous fanbase we our, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

  • How much for the hat!?!?!

  • Yes.

    Yahtzee is indeed god.

  • Found the audio a little hard to make out.

  • turn up the volume ?

  • yahtzee is handsome

  • You should get rid of the first 2:36 seconds of the video.

  • Yahtzee is god.

  • He looks a bit like Marcus Brigstocke...

I like this speech. I was going a bit off his latest vids (though probably because he's best watched infrequently in long bursts than frequently in short ones)...

  • his hat is his secret but still he rulz

  • is it just me or does Ben remind me of Johnny Depp?

  • ...and @ 8:21

  • red screen @ 6:15

  • I love Yahtzee's reviews and he really cute too.

  • maybe it's his sweet hat that you think makes him look cute.

  • I pictured him as some old creepy fat guy, but he's actually pretty appealing!

  • yahtzee is the best person to be speaking about this topic. his reviews are spot on!

  • pfft!

  • Wow... what a great speech from a great critic. Hats off

  • but he has a hat.

  • hahaha true that :P nice observation ;P

  • you can see his hat at hte start before he gets up LOL.

  • he was nervous and frightened at first but got right down to it

    :D

    great as always

  • Yahtzee's Awesome!

  • I love Yahtzee! He's so awesome. The Zero Punchuations are always funny and I love his part in Game Damage and the Austrailan Game Podcasts

  • see what makes him great is that unlike most game reviewers, he strings games up to the ceiling with chains and proceeds to cut chunks out of them.... unlike most his game reviewing peers that are more eager to suck for money

  • subliminal message just before 6:15 no joke

  • It's just a red screen.

  • From the start of the video you know where Yahtzee is, because there is only one hat in the crowd.

  • yahtzee 1000% fuckin rulz!!!

  • Yahtzee is a good example of somebody achieving their dream.

  • @matnatz Wow. I don't mean to suggest that I've accomplished anything of worth, but if finding excuses to bitch about everything imaginable is "achieving your dream," I'd say it's time for an extensive mid-life crisis.

  • Yahtzee always puts a smile on my face :)
