  • It's refreshing to see a horse having a fear reaction on such despook videos. So many videos say "This is the first time..." for whatever exposure and the horse just stands there like they are asleep. I think... so what's wrong with my horses? LOL! Mine react, but we work on it and they are better and better.

Thanks for sharing!!! Appreciate showing the initial reactions before the training!

  • She´s like what the hell.. get that spray thing away from me.. haha btw beautiful horse =D

  • @jeffrokeks Thanks, she is a big girl and different for sure, not many Perch/Appy's around. LOL

This was a video demo to show the way she was reacting to the spray and clippers. It wasn't meant to be a fix... but a demo only.

As it turned out we actually had some progress so that was good!

Thanks for watching and the kind words.

  • Okay my mare had the same problem and we never!!! NEVER!!!! Started spraying directly at her! We always stared new the bottom of the front legs and went up slowly and instead of heading for the back we went up on the neck a little and went back down and sprayed the body SLOWLY!!!!! Don't do it fast!!! And sometimes it could be the sound the bottle makes. That's what my mare always freaked out about was the sound not the spray. Lol but now we can spray all over her body.

  • @lunanightwolf There is a follow up video to this one. And what the professional "Richard Winters' did was start right at her ears. She became a total puppy dog in two seconds in his hands.

This was a demo for Richard so he could see what she was doing with me and maybe he could help me with her. Which of course he DID. LOL

Go watch the 'Professional Version'. You'll see....

  • when the mare moves like that always correct her and make her understand i want you to stand. She knows it doesn't hurt. Sometimes helps to get someone to correct her standing while you are spraying. helpers can never hurt. hope this helps unless shes already cured

  • sometimes i find it's better the way you position your body toward her. Your holding it at her like you know it's not okay. You should rub the bottle all over her body multiple times and ALWAYS start at the bottom of the leg not the neck, because one time you actually did start at the leg she was fine. I trained horse afraid of baths buy just starting with legs only for weeks then move gradually up until they know it's nothing to fear. It helps to stand closer also. Beautiful mare stunning.

  • Her name is Showtimes Fancy right?

That video was the first I ever favourited on YouTube!

    OMGEE

    She is so big now!

Hope she gets over her fear soon! :)

  • It's HER all right. :~)

She's actually doing much better now days with 'scary' things. There's a more recent video (go to my videos) & you'll see 'Fly Spray Professinal Version'. That video shows what Richard Winters did with her in a matter of minutes. Just amazing how he can read a horse!

This video was my demo for him so he could see what I was going thru with her before we went for a 'Problem Horse DVD' filming with Richard Winters.

Check out the 2nd vid in the series.

    It's really cool.

  • I need help. My horse wont run in a circle when I ask him to he turns toward me and stops. I'm not training him for this stuff yet. I'm asking him to run. We dont have a round pen so its weird for me. Am I supposed to let him face me or what? I'm not gonna do anything untill I know what to do...

  • Not a pro here but they aren't born knowing how to longe. It'd be easier in round pen & could use the rails to help you with perimeters. That said, get a good long line & just ask for him to move. Hold your arm out in the direction you want, get that eye, step towards his inside shoulder and put some energy in to your other arm. Swing the end of the rope, slap your leg, what ever it takes & when he moves release the pressure. Ground work moving front end and back end would be a good start too.

  • Boy, if I ever have a problem sending my horse out in a circle, I'll remember the fly spray! :)

  • You're a FUNNY Lady. ROFL!

Mare was gonna go UP or drag me 2 the next County & she's done BOTH before. LOL!

Decided we'd try 2 keep a handle on her & let her have her 'heart attack' BUT with a *little* control. I can walk small circles all day, however long it takes 2 get the point across... Fly spray/clippers won't actually KILL you, silly MARE! :~)

And 2 think... she luvs a good spray with a hose. Go figure! Hehehe!

Watch Part 2 w/Richard Winters, he's so good at reading a horse. :~)

  • thanks for putting a video on how it really is, and the time and effort it takes to get a job done right.super great work.........keep having fun

  • Thanks Joe.

You got 2 be willing 2 hang in there & get them through the deal.

This was a demo 4 Richard Winters. We were chosen 2 participate in a 'Problem Solving' DVD he was filming & he wanted a tape of the issues we were having with the horse. Put this one together real quick 4 Richard on our way 2 the filming.

Check the follow up vid for some amazing work that Richard did with the mare. Opened my eyes to a lot of things when I watched how/what he did that day with her. :~)

    Amazing!

  • wow what a gorgeous horse!!!

i love her build and her color is awesome!!

  • Thank You!

She can be quite the handful at times, but deep down... she's a GOOD GIRL.

    Appaloosa/Percheron Cross.

Dam was a leopard Appy, sire a coal black Percheron.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments. :~)

  • no problem ;) she really is a beauty :)

  • ok =)

  • and msn?

  • I do not have msn. :(

You can send a message through YouTube if you'd like to do that.

  • no a chatt

  • Sorry, I do not have icq. :(

  • have you icq?

  • What is icq? Is that a translator?

  • aha ^^

  • whats a clipper?

  • An electric hair cutting tool.

  • beautiful horse

  • Thank You, 'Moooing'!

She was a *dream foal* that sorta grew to a *nightmare*. But we kept at it and we're gettin better together. This mare is simply NEVER easy and she's certainly taught me a LOT! Her being kinda pretty gives you incentive to hang with it. Heee, heeee! :~)

  • Actually, concussive patting is not all bad, Julz. When done at the proper time, and in the proper context it actually helps. Sort of like when you are getting a massage. Which I do a lot with my horses. Rub, rub, rub. Rio loves a good Shiatsu on his neck.

  • She did lick her lips and lower her head after my 'clop, clop, clop'. Guess she forgave the 'cowgirl' in me. :~)

  • LOL. fun stuff ... fly spray, hoses, i love working with stuff like this because every horse is like a puzzle! And when you figure them out you get such a kick out of it. Nice work there!

  • I'd never seen a real vid of this horse from this perspective. Very interesting and fun to watch her thought process and her learning. I'm such a klutz, but determined to get it right one day. Youtube is cool.

You're pretty cool too, Roland. Thanks! :~)

  • And you is cool too!

  • Hey, Roland. Me's 'patting' a neck in there! Just slap my hands for that... won't you? Rub, with rhythm... NO pat, pat, pat! ARGH! Amazing that mare puts up with me. :~)
