  • I have the .40 sub compact and I love it I carry it in a kolster holster IWB don't need nothing else!

  • I just bought a Springfield XD Tactical 5 .45ACP.. Haven't shot it yet, probably will this weekend.. I can tell already this is going to be an awesome gun.

  • Sorry dude but your dad's voice blows for doing commentaries. He slurs so bad you can barely tell what he's saying unless the volume is turned all the way up

  • excellent instructional video on the XD; I have a few; and they are the safest, most reliable, most durable firearms that I have ever owned.

  • Which is more accurate? Glock 27 or Springfield xd 40 subcompact?

I already have a G27 and I'm looking into getting the xd but still on edge.

  • Great control, nice shooting.

  • Very nice control. I'm very impressed with the way you handle that firearm. I'll be watching more of your videos. Please keep making them.

  • I love this gun I need the inside holister

  • I am a 50 year old woman looking to purchase the XD9. Would you recommend the full size or the subcompact model for a woman to use as a self defense weapon?

  • @MrsJaguar10 Either will work for home defense. It really comes down to what you are most comfortable shooting. The subcompact has a little more snap than the full size but is very managable with practice. If you plan to carry then I would suggest the subcompact.

  • MADE IN CROATIA.

  • can anybody tell me how xd's handle hollow points? thanks

  • My fiance` is about to purchase an XD SubCompact 9mm. What holsters would you recommend for a woman to conceal carry it with?

  • @GellyNose After much research on consealed carry holsters for this guy i found the Crossbreed Supertuck was the clear winner. After purchasing (i upgraded to Horsehide leather) i absoulutely couldnt be happier. Its a bit larger and pretty ugly but very comfortable if your going to carry. This is my opinion.

  • very informative!

  • can you special order a left-hand holster from springfield? or do you have to buy aftermarket?

  • I honestly don't know. With about 10% of the US population being left handed, it wouldn't surprise me if you could.

That being said, the holster that comes with this gun is not the best. Its floppy on a standard belt and its won't fit on a duty belt. This holster is good to get you by one the range, but it's not what I recommend for daily carry.

I recommend the Desantis Pro Stealth, Model 91, size 16 or the CTAC (compact tactical adjustable cant) holster.

  • i have been a 1911 guy since my Marine Corps days 1968/74, however bought a subcompact XD-9 and love it as the new carry gun. with 7 with the 1911 45acp is great. but 17 plus P 9mm hollowpoints is greater.I have combat shot. so I don't ever feel underpowered when I have the sub 9mm with me. and with extra mag more then enough to back out of trouble as fast if i get into it. {great vid thanks for posting.}

  • Thanks for the video.

  • What Inside the waistband holster is he using?

  • The Desantis Pro Stealth, model 91, size 16.

  • CARLOS ROSSI

  • I wish the XDm was available with a manual safety option too...

  • It is. The competition grade barrel, the fact that you don't have to dry fire it to take it down, and the optional manual on/off thumb safety are the major selling points of the XDM. I personally think the Xd's barrels are just fine, and I think that adding a manual safety to this fire is a backward step, but not having to dry fire it to take it down is a huge plus in my mind.

  • I've never seen a XDm with a thumb/manual safety for sale... Only standard XDs.

  • guyNbluejeans: my everyday CC weapon is a Service Model XD in .45 ACP. I've found it to be quite accurate and reliable. Most of my Range Partners are LEOs and every one of them has fallen in love with my XD the first time they shot it. @Springr1911 is right - too much finger will pull the barrel to the right every time. Tip of the trigger finger is all you need... and a nice smooth squeeze. You'll be in the x-ring with your XD in no time!

  • I bought an XD Service model .45 ACP several months ago to spite Obama and the gun-grabbing lib politicians.

I took it out and fired it maybe 30 or 40 times and found I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with it due to the fact that it kept shooting way to the right. I looked at the rear sight and found that one needs a hammer and tappet (?) to make the adjustment. I thought how stupid is that? They couldn't bother with putting an adjustable rear sight on the thing!

    I haven't taken it out..

  • Sounds like shooter error to me. I'll make a Dollar to Pesos bet that you're putting as much of your finger as you can in the trigger guard and yanking on the trigger. That will pull all your shots to the right. I own 3 XD's and better then 60% of my students go out and buy an XD after shooting them, because they are the most user friendly pistol on the market. With a 2 hand strong grip and just the tip of your finger on the trigger squeezing back I bet you'll be dead center of any target.

  • @Springr1911 Well, when it warms up a bit and the price of ammo goes down ('cause I don't want to shoot up what I have and then not be able to buy more) I'll go out and try it again.

I can tell you that I'm accurate with shooting my Smith & Wesson .99 accurately, so I don't seem to be one that goes into the kind of spams that I think you're talking about.:-)

  • Trust me I understand where you're coming from. Look into reloading; it keeps the cost way down and ammo available. For an inexpensive reloader and start up powders, primers, dies, and bullets your looking @ $400 max. They pay for themselves in no time.

  • @Springr1911 Thanks for the suggestion! I currently have other priorities and obligations, but one day I could very well see myself getting into reloading.:-)

  • Thank you Pat for your video. I am starting the process for my CCW and was looking for a new compact to carry. Do to your video I checked out the XD40 SubCompact and purchased one. It is my favorite to carry and shoot. I hope to see more of your videos. Thanks again.

  • This guy is good....

  • Sir wat is the name or model of the IWB holster you used in this video?? price??

  • The holster in the video is a CTAC, which stands for Compact Tactical Adjustable Cant holster. It allows you to tuck in your shirt between the holster and your pants for concealment, if you so choose. These are made from molded plastic which means they are made to fit one specific model of gun. We paid around $80 for this holster.

  • pat im sorry i erased your msg, what was the name of the holster company u had recomended me to?? thanks again

  • Would have liked to have seen your targets. Are the groups good with the 3" barrel?

  • When we shoot for defensive accuracy (shoot faster at the expense of accuracy) and an acceptable group is a circle around the 'Q' with about a 4" radius. We often shoot 9" paper plates to practice combat accuracy since they're dirt cheap. At seven yards, taking a little more time, we can easily shoot a 1" group with this pistol.

I should point out that this barrel is really about a 2" barrel. I'm not sure when it became OK to count the chamber in that measurement, but I quit arguing.

  • I have some video demonstrating combat accuracy. I think we actually use those paper pie plates for the demonstration. I'll see if I can't find it and get it posted within the next week or so.

Thanks for watching/ commenting. If you have any other questions or video requests, please feel free to email me or post again.

  • are you on-duty during the filming of this video?

    .

if not, take the badge off

  • First, he has a gun on his hip. If you display a gun, you need to display a badge.

Second, why should you care he does or does not wear a badge?

And third, this particular badge says "Concealed Carry Permit Holder", and conveys no authority. Its just cheap insurance. Hopefully if a police officer comes to the scene where you've used deadly force to protect yourself or a third party, he see this piece of tin and holds off on shooting you, instead turning his attention to your attacker.

  • first off if the police are at the scene then there is no reason to have your gun out. hes putting himself in unecessary danger by wearing a badge because the "bad guy" could precieve him as a threat and shoot him before he even knows whats going on. most policemen are wearing a badge AND a bullet proof jacket, with a radio to call for back up. those are the only people who should be wearing a badge.

  • Off duty cops usually do not wear vests. If you have someone at gun point on the ground, you are not going to holster as soon as a cop pulls up because they're still a threat until their in custody or unconscious. The only time we display badges is when we're displaying a gun, ie: going to the range wearing orange shirts or wearing our uniform. Wearing a badge in no way increases our risk of being injured. As for a way to call for backup, we have radios, but off duty we have cell phones.

  • alomost all attorneys agree that people should not wear a badge if they are not a police officer. if you shoot someone in self defense they can say that you were impersinating a police officer. the legal ramifications of wearing a badge far out weight the "benfits" of wearing one. the idea behind having a gun for self defense is to not to pull it out unless you are going to fire it. people shouldn't pull their gun out to hold a suspect on the ground. leave that to the LEO.

  • In order to be guilty of any crime, there must be two things present. In the latin it's mens rea and actus reus, guilty mind and guilty action. In order to be guilty of impersonating a police officer you must claim to be a police officer and then take some official action, (ie: trying to arrest someone.) The best case scenario, if you have to draw, is that they run away and you don't have to fire. If you want to discuss this in more detail, email me. I may email you later today if time permits

  • i just bought a holster for my XD, n it does not feel close enough to my body? you can still see it under my shirt a little. should i try an in the pants holster?? anybody?

  • My vote is for a inside the waistband holster. Maybe a holster from Comp-Tac or maybe a Dakota Defender from K&D holsters if you don't mind a 14 week wait. It's a long wait for the K&D holster but they are individually hand made for your exact handgun and are extremely nice.

  • The holster I use is a Desantis Pro Stealth model 91 size 16. It carries a second magazine for you as well, and it costs about $35 vs aout $80 for the CTAC.

  • great vids as always cure! I have a question-I just brought home my xd 40 sc-and the slide release lever is very stiff, I need to struggle using both thumbs to bring the slide back! Is this normal? Any ideas or tips? Thanks and keep up the great work!

  • I would guess that its not the slide lock you're having trouble with, but maybe you're not pulling the slide back far enough when you're trying to push the slide lock up. Xd's are very stiff when they're brand new. Take the slide off and try a little oil on the slide lock. Also try inserting an empty magazine in the gun, pulling the slide back, and then using the slide lock to drop the slide in order to work in the oil. Let me know if that helps!

    Thanks for watching/commenting!

  • YES!!! it is normal, my XD9 SC was doing the same thing... I wondered why, but after ~200-300 rounds and some dry firing it got very manageable with the thumb. Although I would recommend to ride the slide.

  • getting more used to it now-thank you for the help! Happy shooting!

  • If by "ride the slide" you mean keep your hand on it while it goes forward to feed a round, I do not recommend that. When you fire the gun, that slide moves back and forward on its own, its designed to go forward with a certain amount of force. Dropping the slide is not going to hurt anything. If you hold onto the slide as it goes forward, you increase your chances of getting a misfeed.

Now, if the gun is empty and you're not loading it, I guess it doesn't matter. Thanks for the comment.

  • yes, I was referring to an empty gun

  • Guess what arrived at my gun dealer a day early.....

  • Gotta love it when that happens.

  • I got mine last month and I'm loving it!!! also Springfield has a promo for handguns purchased between October 08 and January 09 they are giving free mags!!! just print/fill out a form from their website attach a copy of you firearm purchase receipt and mail it.

Send me a message for more info or check their website.

    be safe stay safe

  • Whoa!!! I would have missed that!! I just bought mine today. I actually purchased it over the phone and am having it shipped to a local dealer. Every dealer here is sold out. But my purchase should be here on Tuesday. Looks like I'm just gonna make the deadline. Thanks for the heads up.

  • You father seems extremely professional.

    Thanks for uploading this video.

Also, what holster is he using in the vid?

    Thanks,

    Hydrashok556

  • The holster in the video is a CTAC, which stands for Compact Tactical Adjustable Cant holster. It allows you to tuck in your shirt between the holster and your pants for concealment, if you so choose.

  • is the xd 9mm sub compact small enough to be used for a concealed carry weapon??? I was going to go with a kahr pm9 but i would prefer the springfield if a skinny guy like me could conceal it fairly well in a IWB. btw, you seem like a hell of a teacher from first site. Now i know to put my index on the frame inbetween shots. merci

  • Its excellent for concealed carry. The 10 round magazine makes the grip easily 1" shorter than a full size gun, and the 3" barrel makes it light and comfortable to carry while keeping the gun very accurate over defensive distances. I'm a thin guy (this is my father in the video), and an IWB holster with an untucked t-shirt conceals this very well. Watch my "Shooting Fundamentals" video. In that video I'm carrying a full size firearm in an IWB holster and it is still concealed very well.

  • thanks for the reply

  • very nice!

  • just picked up another xd subcompact in 9mm i already have it in 40cal but love the gun so much i had to get the xd in all calibers including 45acp

  • my dad carries the xd sub compact and the comopact and he like them much better than his glock carry weapon for the police

  • Your father has good taste in firearms.

Thanks for watching/posting. If you have any questions or suggestions for future videos let me know.

  • is this gun overall better than a glock 17

  • User preference. By the way glock 17 is a full size hand gun and this one is a sub compact. They are not designed to fill the same role. Apples to oranges my friend.

  • They are both striker fired pistols, and the user may have meant to ask about a Glock model 19. At any rate, the XD can have a full sized grip with the 16 round magazine and is clearly better for a variety of reasons. I'll post a new video this weekend.

    Thanks for watching/commenting.

  • This gun, with a 16 round magazine, has a full sized grip and the barrel comes in 3, 4 or 5" lengths. To answer your question, this is MUCH better than a Glock model 17 or 19(the compact version). It's not "apples to oranges", its a double action only handgun vs. a single action only handgun, both use compressed springs (not hammers) to propel the firing pin. The Springfield is safer, more reliable, and is SAMMI spec.

  • Cool video.

I am flip flopping on getting a Glock 26 or an XD subcompact.

I kinda like the Xd for the added grip safety and the striker indicator and the chambered indicator.

The Glock on the otherhand is very reliable and light weight. I can only afford to buy one. I intentd to use it for conceal and carry and for personal protection in the house.

Any comment will be very much appreciated.

  • An independent tester took a new XD, ran it over with a steamroller, froze in a block of ice, buried it in mud and sand, stripped it of any form of lubricant and fired about 20,000 rounds through it without any mechanical malfunctions. Weight wise, you're looking at 26oz for the XD vs. almost 20oz for the Glock. Please, watch for my video that I'll post THIS weekend explaining some of the pros and cons when comparing these two manufacturers of handguns.

    Thanks for watching/commenting.

  • love the xd i have 2 one in the subcompact and the other us the 4inch bitone in the 45acp they are both aswome guns and will out shoot a glock anyday

  • Watch for my comparison video this weekend, Springfield vs. Glock

    Thanks for watching/commenting.

  • I see your dad is a LEO!

  • He's worked for everyone from small town police forces to federal prisons to the TSA. He has over 3,000 hours of documented training. He definately knows what he's doing.

  • I have an XD-9 full-size and love it. Very reliable and not nearly as expensive as Sigs and some other pistols. Safety features are also excellent.

  • Entertaining vid!

    How about a side-by-side comparison to a Glock 26..

  • I'll post one this weekend.

    Thanks for the idea/watching/commenting.

  • I've been running both the 3" and the 4" 9mm for about 3 years or so. With the right rig and cover, the 3" disappears under a shirt. I haven't had any real problems with either of them- they have about 2500+ rds on them each. Never a stage 2 malfunction, stage 1 is rare. The thing I really like the platform is that mags fit in both guns and muscle memory holds pretty well during transition. The grip is canted different than the Glock, and makes it much easier to be accurate and consistent

  • I personally don't like the grip angle on Glocks and I much prefer the XD. I believe the XD has the same cant on the grip as a 1911, and those have always fit my hand very well.

  • "I personally don't like the grip angle on Glocks and I much prefer the XD. I believe the XD has the same cant on the grip as a 1911, and those have always fit my hand very well. "

I have always had a problem with Glocks for the same reason. They just never feel right in my hand and are not comfortable. My Springfield XD40 subcompact feels great and translates to accurate shooting. I have a S&W 9mm M&P which feels and shoots great also.

  • Very nice demo...what are your thoughts on the S&W M&P. I'm torn between buying one of those or the XD

  • Well, it can't be all that bad. It was named handgun of the year in 2007. I've actually never handled or fired one, but I can attest to the reliability of the XD firsthand. I know for a fact the XD is easier to take down and clean. (Check out some take down videos). An independent tester fired 5,000 rounds through an XD without cleaning it and without malfunction. I would go with the XD. I hope that helps you decide.

    Thanks for watching!

  • I'm liking the compact design, looks cool.

  • Awesome demo, planning on getting one this november.
