I've seen Rush a number of times going back to the "Signals" tour; this is the best that I've seen Alex handle guitar issues. I've seen him absolutely flip out on his tech more than once.
It looks like a the 9:00, Alex isn't happy with the song right then because Neil was doing his own thing....you can see him say to Neil,"We won't use use it."
When u take into consideration how many shows these guys play .. technical difficulties are gonna happen .. I saw them on this tour July 13th in Toronto at the Molson Ampitheater and Alex seemed to be having some 'tone issues' with his new rig .. nothing to this extent though ... but just about every professional musician has had technical problems and RUSH as awesome as they've been for decades, are not exempt. These guys are beyond amazing .. ROCK LEGENDS !!!
...only a band like Rush can pull this off!! That was so entertaining and funny, they just kept it going, most other bands would have just been stood there in silence scratching their bollocks and looking like amateurs!
@RushFan413 I think they all got lost and had to have a mid-song Rush meeting to sort things out. I bet it's hard for them to keep the beat when the time signature is 456/7
When I first heard of this... situation I figured it was like the milwaukee show where they just went on without him for a little bit. (note: in that show, Alex apparently had been having guitar problems earlier, and it finally gave out right before La Villa. They fixed it pretty quickly though)
You know the band is doing well when the guitarist starts bashing the band xD That's so awesome, great to see that they're all so chill... I mean if Yngwie Malmsteen's rig got messed up like that he'd just destroy his techs..... and then go do more coke while eating a big mac.
To further add to the frustration of his guitar not making any sound, (once his tech did get it working), his first string was caught somewhere against the side of the bridge or bridge saddle, or wherever, producing that high pitched note, and you see Alex free it at 2:32.
I just saw these guys last night In Cleveland where it was being filmed and they were AWESOME. no disapointment except that I was hoping there would be another "still mo guitar" moment. But no :/
Al bought his ES-335 with their big advance they got after 2112. He personally went to Gibson factory and picked it out. 335s and 355s are really awesome guitars, and Al has total taste in axes
I would love Alex to do rants on LVS like he used to. I miss the comedic touch he places in that song. Such as in Rush In Rio, how his rant was so funny. I don't know, maybe that's just me.
You know I was kinda disappointed b/c in a way it tainted the show for me. Even the look on Alex's face at the end of the song/concert says he's disappointed. Seeing them in Cleveland in 2 weeks...LIVE and DVD'd.
@MrTBBiggs You sir... are... so... LUCKY!!! I wanna be on a Rush DVD sooooo bad man. I do understand how a huge technical problem like that can ruin a show. I totally know (I'm a performing musician) and it sucks when it happens. But you can notice in the video is even after all that they can still smile during the song. My dad told me that as a touring musician you will have the stellar, polished, golden shows along with the really rocky ones. Shrug it off, just a bad night. D.L.P. RUSH ROCKS!
this was my 15th time seeing Rush...and by far the worst. I was sitting just off the stage on Alex's side and they were working feverishly on his effects rack. Something died and affected the better part of the second half of the show. We could hear Alex screaming at the techs. it's odd to see Lerxst downplay his tech issues. There's so many videos from this tour of his equipment glitches. He had major problems early in the Ottawa show where my wife and I saw them too. I thought he might be pi$ed for the rest of the show, but he was awesome. This show's problems were wicked and your coverage and posting of it is Epic.
@thatonetallkid444 eh I doubt it. They're easy going guys, the fans love watching the guys goof around it doesn't matter if it's a mistake or not. Plus they arent really responsible for a battery pack or a wire failing.
Watch closely starting at 8:50 where Alex begins to get Neil's attention to forget about the "rant" section. Then, at around 9:03, he gets through to Neil and tells Geddy at 9:06.
I like at 8:48 when neil does the melody on the drums and if u look closely alexs says "dont do that shit,i dont like it" and neil doesn't even look at him like fuck off.haha
@reidthedrummer It looks more like he's saying "stop after this", and then confirming that he doesn't want to go straight into the next song (Working Man) from this one. Could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me rather than him being upset with Neil for some reason.
I was front row at Dallas. Best show of all time. But I saw they had several malfunctions. The video to caravan did not play right and I could see Geddy saying, "What the fuck?' to the techs. Alex's microphone did not work on Subdivisions. (not a bid deal since you barely hear him anyway) Also through the first song, Alex had to keep yelling at the moniter guy to turn his up. @theevan117 yes Neil started wearing them at Red Rocks because his IEM's and earplugs while motorcycling were aggravating an inner ear infection. He describes it in his current blog.
@theevan117 He wore them when I saw them at PNC bank arts center on september 3 2010. Liked concert so much, parents took me to see them at Madison Square Garden on april 10 2011. Even took first grade sister. Didi mention i am only in grade six and i love RUSH? I find it interesting how everybody I go to school with likes this crap like bruno mars or justin be**r. Still the best Rush show I've seen. The technical snafu gives it character. Great recording too. I was up in the Loge, looking at it from alex's side and the flurry of activity sidestage was unreal.
@ebrown2112 I was at that show. some of it was him though, he snapped a few strings on stick it out. that was when he was pretending to be an airplane, because he couldn't play. it was so awesome. I love this kind of stuff because they don't flip out, they just roll with it. true professionals.
This footage is beyond priceless! Rush took a trainwreck and instead of freaking out and leaving the stage (like Axl Rose), they gave the fans a rare delightful moment. Thank you for sharing!
I saw them 08-05 in Salt Lake, first show of second leg, and they were perfect, no technical glitches. I feel really bad for Big Al. In it's own way you all witnessed something that doesn't happen very often, to that extent anyway. I love Rush.
I think I was in the row behind you-- this is the angle I was seeing and I saw a guy with a camera in front of us... THIS IS GREAT STUFF!!!! It was a classic moment and I'm SO glad you captured it. I described the incident to several people, but now I can send around the link. Nicely done!

@SE7ENHILLPSYCHO Sorry, I was in the promenade, not the loge.

Alex had technical problems at the PNC Bank Arts Center show too. It was ridiculous.

That's the most miserable I have seen Alex on stage ever. Great video though!
