A md500 is an nice machine but I think to do loops have to be at least 2500ft not almost 1000ft anyway a helicopter is not a machine to do loops you can do so but you have an risk of the 70% to crash. The BO-105 of Red Bull can do that kind of maneuvers due to the rigid rotor system and because he's doing it in +G's
Well im not a real Pilot, but im flying RC Helis....and i could tell from beginning that the Pilot dont really got the Control of this MD - 500 or is an Amateur...the way hes flying from the first second looks very amateur, hes not flying Smooth and stable .
@SlickMalikBeatz I fly RC helicopters too, you can have a taste of full-size helicopters like R22 in X-Plane flight simulator. A lot harder to fly smooth because they don't have gyros, flybars or Vbars, and all that you find in RC helicopters.
A real helicopter pilot told me the H500 is capable of loops and rolls if the G-forces are kept positive. I've also seen an MD600N promo video of a 600N doing a reversed Immelman which is certainly inverted! The 600N is also based on 500 series.
these machines are not designed to loop , ok if you at 1k but it is hard to judge how much space needed on the recovery , on the vid this guy new that and looking at the recovery he tryed very hard to pull up as the tail sunk very quickly in a effort to get the noise up , but air speed was to low and not enough room to recover so sad ,,,,,,,,,,
Very sad, but clearly a case of the pilot flying outside of his abilities. Like other posters here have stated, showing off is one thing when you've a margin for error, but doing it at low level in a fuel laden aircraft and allowing your excitement to get the better of you is quite another. Sad nonetheless.
The 500c has a climb rate when light of 2500 ft/per min, invert it and maintain full collective at low altitude and you will be astonished at the rate the ground arrives, descend to rapidly and apply heavy collective particularly on a hot day, to inducing a high angle of blade attack and blade stall will instantly result,
Why is it so typical of pilots to do stunts at low altitude? Air shows especially. Why don't you get some altitude first before doing stunts-you have a more safety buffer.
looked like somthing happen in the pit just as it started it nose dive, that and too much fuel making it a heavy bird and the pilot did not look like he had enuff skill to be pulling those moves......poor git. RIP
@damafia29 Ok. I asked because I'm a glider pilot at the homebase of this helicopter pilot and saw his training and shows a lot of times and by the way he was one of the most skilled and experienced heliacro pilots on earth. Unfortunatly I never heard anything of possible reasons for this accident and I don't know how far the investigations are.
@flyerXXX, Its very cruel how people make claims. We can all make a mistake and machinery can jamb or break just at the wrong time.
A Pilot can have a long life with great skill, reputation and still be undone by a single mistake or mechanical failure, it does not detract from a wonderfull carear.
Talk is cheap, especially from those who do not fly and do not take calculated risk for the wonderous adventure that they are.

Its was a hammerhead stall, not a loop

@SlickMalikBeatz I agree in that it looks like he was reacting to the moves, rather than being in full control of them.
Not to mention when doing loops, rolls, etc, always smarter to start at a decent height off the ground.
Apparently he was actually pretty skilled however, which is probably why he thought he could do such a dangerous manoeuver at such low altitude.

Clear reason why there aren"t any old and bold pilots out there,
to make it worse helicopters are by not means acrobatics machines.
stay safe know the limits of your aircraft and your self

that's why I don't think Helicopters should try the loop

@KJT922010T you can do loops just not at low altitudes

@flyerXXX the moves just look ruff, and not the flying of a skilled pilot
