comes from a line of accomplished musicians, and if u think her music is lacking anything at all, u still cant deny her passion she displays in her music
Love Martha and her music, sorry to disagree but I think Rufus over-sings on almost every tune... I can hear his talent but just don't like much that he's done...Try not to overuse words like 'genius' and comparisons with Cohen and Waits its ridiculous. 'Widely accepted' has no meaning.
I saw her a few years ago when she was making her first appearances in the UK as support for her Dad. She also accompanied him on a couple of songs. Loudon is a legend and has written many great songs. I didn't think much of Martha when I first heard her songs and I can't say that I've heard anything better from her since then either. I don't mind some of Rufus's stuff but i can't see Martha or Rufus ever becoming such a brilliant songwriter as their Dad.
ridiculous, only an idiot couldnt see the subtle brilliance of martha's debut album, and rufus, rufus is a genius, and widely accepted as such, arguably the best songwriter in the world at the moment,
as martha is still on her 1st album its hard to say too much, but rufus has surpassed his dad, by quite a margin it has to be said, and to suggest anything other is scandalous. in years to come loudon will be a music footnote, and rufus will be held in the same breath as cohen and dylan. and martha has the potential to be up there with joplin and mitchell.
I understand what are saying about Rufus, he is great, but I do indeed suggest otherwise that he has surpassed his father, in quality of work or overall influence with his peers. Loudon is in the same leauge with Randy Newman, Tom Waits, and yes even Bob Dylan. Rufus isn't there yet, but I think he's on his way, unless the Judy Garland stuff totally distroys his career, which I hope it does not! MO -Ron
The incident is known to Steely Dan fans at "Marthagate." In the middle of his concert at the Beacon in NYC, he invited her on stage to sing one of her songs, and there was a mass exodus for the consession stands. Given that the concert wasn't terribly long, the fans were kind of miffed.
Wow, davoidin, you are just vile. I guess it shows how powerful you are that you can post insulting comments from the anonymity of an Internet screen name. :(
Not that there's anything wrong with that. She might be high strung, she also seems like she might be a little ill so goodness knows what she's taking for that-- sudafed makes me act far jerkier than that.
Martha Wainwright and John Kelly. No better combination. What rte have done to Kelly's radio show is nothing short of disgraceful. Any more Martha interviews?
have you seen or heard her singing Edith Piaf Lesser known songs. mum and dad accompany some numbers. She's found her voice. In every sense

I never heard of her until she came on stage and performed in the middle of a Donald Fagen concert. It didn't go over too well.

Martha you are brilliant, I don't know why you don't see it. You need me to be your producer. You are a star, in every sense of the word.
