I was about 20 when Xenon and Seventh Wave came out and had a serious crush on Suzanne. Smart, attractive, fun, sexy, and into synths. What more could a guy possibly want?!
I was 13 years old when this machine came out. I first played it at the Woodbridge Mall arcade in New Jersey. All of the adolescent boys were drawn to this came for obvious reasons. That notwithstanding, it's a great, great game.
man this pinball machine used to get me roused as a kid i must've spent like $5 in quarters at a time playing it loved that voice. enter xenon! nice to see how it was all done.creative minds at work.
Cool article! The voice compression scheme used in Xenon is called CVSD (Continuous Variable Slope Delta Modulation) and yields a 8:1 compression rate with fairly intelligible speech. Bally used it from 1978-1990 in their pinball and arcade machines.
i played this machine as a little kid 20+ years ago.. an early pinball favourite due to the polished feel and authentic computer soul atmosphere.. like some Tron type tangent might occur..
so good to meet Suzanne Ciani.. good work! and Riva Freifeld - nice job! and thankyou for posting this.

Played Xenon at Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas last week. Why play a slot machine when you can "try a tube shot".

Is it just me or does she sound like she's climaxing when she uses the grunts? I laughed when the girl smirked at her. hehe

the "uh" and "oh" sounds have a vaguely sexual aspect to them ... not to mention the tube shot...
