  • the lyrics to this song are o so joyous and very fitting for my state at the moment witchfinder general full fledge WFG

  • One of those albums that I can listen to and instantly feel better. Witchfinder General, my favorite movie and one of my favorite bands.

  • I've been a big fan of WFG ever since the early 80's. And I agree with those who feel that without Zeeb, the band is very weak in comparison.

When they lost Zeeb, they not only lost his voice -- they also lost his songwriting talent. And they also lost the influence that Zeeb had over the overall sound and direction that WFG was heading towards. WFG without Zeeb Parkes is kind of like trying to imagine The Doors without Jim Morrison.

Fortunately, we still have their early recordings.

  • I think the new singer sucks ass compared to zeeb.

could not enjoy the newer stuff but the old records are undescribable.

the most powerful song i've ever heard.

fuck iron maiden, witchfinder general rule, have always ruled and will always rule

  • fuck sabbath fuck ozzy

  • is it just me, or does the singer sound like Serj Tankian?

  • @h3adbanger95

    lol wut

  • @h3adbanger95 you are way off the charts my man. why do people come on these underground videos and say stupid shit like this seriously man NO.

  • @bassistdave109 i never said system of a down was good. i would rather listen to witchfinder any day. but you have to admit serj sounds like him

  • @h3adbanger95 nope.

  • To be honest, i'm a sabbath fan(mainly dio era), and i have to say that Zeeb is basically what ozzy would be like if he was good. He would have been a perfect replacement after the gillan era.

  • Zeeb I Love You!!!!

  • so you guys actually think that this is music??? Wow!

  • @drtrotter74 What is music for you?

  • @FytTigersharq hmmmm......not sure now. I must have meant to comment on a different video.....this sounds a lot like Sabbath to me, which I like. What I usually refer to as "not being music" is the death speed metal, with the grunting and screaming, that has no actual musical nature to it at all.

  • @drtrotter74 Agree, too heavy subgenres of metal aren't good... It's just screaming and noise for me.

  • @drtrotter74 That stuff didn't strike me as music the first few times I heard it as well. It is, admittedly, and acquired taste. But once you can hear all of the different instruments, and if the creepy/gory/weird atmosphere works for you as it does for me, then Death Metal is an amazing genre. It's definitely not for everyone though. That being said, Witchfinder General are awesome.

  • @drtrotter74 you dont know what your talking about... listen to the band death's albums individual thought patterns, and leprosy. or (although im not a big fan) any of the band in flames's first 3 albums. listening to death (the first death metal band) its easily realized that theres a hell of a lot of effort, work, and music skill put into that MUSIC. no musical nature my ass.....

  • @blindiris22 yup. chuck schuldiner puts that debate to rest instantly.

  • @drtrotter74 yep, this is music.

  • @drtrotter74 as much as I consider this music I also consider Chris Lillying your fucking ass for dinner next week you shit.

  • @drtrotter74 lol

  • so you guys actually think that this is music???

  • the best band in the world!!! yeah!!!

  • their best song imo. What a blast. Satanic regards.

  • Where are you now Zeeb?

  • @yumeishinzen i believe he has a MySpace lol just type in "Zeeb Parkes" and he will come up

  • I always thought that Zeeb would have been a good replacement for Ozzy in Sabbath. As good as Dio and Gillan were, it just didn't sound like Sabbath with them. Zeeb sounded A LOT like Ozzy. It is such a shame Witchfinder General and Zeeb couldn't have made more albums together. "Death Penalty" and "Friends of Hell" were fucking great! However, they were a couple of the worst album covers ever, though.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN

How are naked women bad heavy metal album covers :P :)

  • @TezinaBenzina, These women are being violently murdered, that's what's bad about it.

  • I discovered this after watching the film with the band name starring Vincent Price, my idol in Horror... And the song is awesome! Depravity is a virtue.

  • yeah peace to all the witch finder fans, really agree with

    billjannusch

    witchfinders has a magical sound

unlike a lot of bands, they blend the sound so well

  • Totally fuckin'awesome!!!I could listen tothis forever!!!I've been a fan for twenty years!!

  • aw man this is sooo good

  • I hear it is Zeeb's Birthday today. Happy Birthday to the God of doom metal vocals. There is no Witchfinder General without you. x

  • Énorme. Amazing.

  • I actually feel really bad for Zeeb. He was as much as a part of the band as any of them were. And for Phil to not include him was a dick move.

  • dude its the fucking witchfinder lol

  • i keep listening, must have 100 hits awesome, as NWOBHM should be, dont an analyse - just shit hot rock.

  • British.

  • your a dumbass

    just shut upp

  • This band is awesome.

  • NWOBHM = New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Check out bands like Venom, Raven, Angel witch, Def Leppard, Priest, and some Maiden stuff too.

  • badass!!!!

  • I discovered this yesterday, after watching the film with the band name starring Vincent Price. These guys are good man, come on !

  • why the fuck one of these dudes is a born again now christian really blows. whatever! looooove this song!

  • yeah, weird that a lot of the old doom style groups have guys who were into, or got into the whole Christian thing, Bobby and Victor of Pentagram, Trouble of course, and I think maybe even some of the guys in Saint Vitus. Doesnt bother me though, as long as the riffs keep coming.

  • What a riff from the almighty.

  • any one who likes this band shoul def. check out their website

  • Some of you fags are way too full of yourself. I won't disagree that Witchfinder General are better than any thrash band but if you think you really know it all, you're wrong and should be put in your place by getting your throats slit. Quit your bitching and enjoy the music, elitist cocksuckers. No one thinks you're elite and no one really gives a shit about how long you've been listening to music so fuck off and die.

  • witchfynde only had one song i really liked it was pay now love later.

  • hte divine victim is a pretty good witchfynde song dude check it out

    nothing compared to witchfinder tho

  • Hmm... I'm 16!

I wouldn't consider myself a 'braindead Metallica fan'.

Saxon and WFG are my favourite bands...

  • This song rocks my ass off!!!!!!!!!

  • 100x times stonger vocals than the one in metalliaca! What a great bass sound! and the drums are top notch! Metallica is like a drunk man compared to Witchfinder General!

  • i love this band and zeeb parkes is the best doom singer of the history.

(PJPK1111 sei uno stronzo e non capisci un cazzo!vatteneaffanculo)

    long life to the WFG!

    zeeb come back!

    were are you??

  • Theres nothing punk about this band, this is HEAVY METAL i see sabbath and priest influences, some1 said about the rawness of punk in this band---> Not at all

    WFG \m/

  • NWOBHM isn't a genre it's a movement

It's merely a term used to describe the emergence of new Heavy Metal bands in Britain. You've got your more mainstream bands like Iron Maiden, DiamondHead and Judas Priest who were a big influence on the American Thrash metal scene. Then there are your more underground bands like Witchfinder General, Pagan Altar and Witchfynde who influenced Doom Metal, Black Metal and the like.

You also have Motorhead who incorporated both Punk and Metal in their music

  • spot on mate

  • who are you people who keep trying to define NWOBHM. i am 47, and for a time we had a bunch of bands who played some music which was amazing. if you cant see that lars saw this and took it to another level then i'm sure you should pis off and listen to bros.

  • yada yada, because it is important to know who played what and what was influenced by what, so we can MOVE IT FORWARD and not KEEP STAGNANT IN SOUND. Of course when you are 47, you are getting old and it's getting difficult to picture what could be :p

  • listen to evilmick he seems to know what he is talking about. NWOBHM was INFLUENCED by the diy punk ethic - make your own demos and put em out on your own indie label, thats about as far as it goes. True NWOBHM lasted only a few short years, all gone by '85, but they set the basis for hardcore, speed, thrash etc. as for keeping things fresh and moving forwards - is that why in every interview about the new CD metallica talk about returning to the sound they had 20 years ago?

  • Hardcore existed before NWOBHM, and was one of the influences in style and approach in NWOBHM. to say NWOBHM set the basis for hardcore is wrong. Believe what you wish though!

  • young boy, i now understand how you could get things so very wrong and not listen to people who lived through it. sorry if i dont believe a 30 year old american can know more about this than me, i was there. also guess it explains why you wont listen to anyone elses more informed comments. poor misguided fool.

  • awesome, i am a nhobhm fan, diamond head are the greatest, with out a question. never heard anything by these guys, but i have heard of them (obviously). these are amazing, no production, pure music, thank you, thank you!!!!!

  • I know this is a post for more than a year... bout WFG is a fucking great band!.. I wouldn't even forget this band!

    WFG Rlz!

  • UHHHHH whoever said Witchfinder General was not NWOBHM needs to check their facts. NWOBHM combined the heaviness of Sabbath and Priest with the speed and rawness of punk. Witchfinder General is very dark and from the grave but then again some areas of punk music also derive from those same grimy depths.

Point being - Witchfinder General NWOBHM, undisputable except maybe the kids who didn't live it (including me, I'm only 30!)

  • That's not NWOBHM at all. NWOBHM is exactly what it's name says: New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. It was the explosion of new british bands of that time.

Genre influences (such as punk) does not come into acount when describing it, NWOBHM bands were diverse bands with their own diverse influences.

  • You are very wrong. Believe me, I was alive during those days (though very young). How about you? Have you studied heavy metal at all? I have. Believe me, punk music absolutely was part of the NWOBHM. Just take that as clad and move on.

  • I didn't say punk a part of it, I'm just saying it was only a part of a minority of diverse bands and THAT'S NWOBHM. I've studied my metal history. There were NWOBHM that were doom bands like Witchfinder General and Pagan Altar, punk-ish speed bands like Blitzkrieg and Venom, and progressive/technical bands like Iron Maiden. Raw, evil bands like Witchfynde and glammy, arena bands like Raven.

Punk-ish bands were just one of many diverse british bands from the late 70's.

  • (1) witchfinder general was NWOBHM

    (2) NWOBHM was partly punk and hardcore(rawness, intensity, speed)

Believe me, take my word for it, the gnere is Heavy Metal. The era was NWOBHM. The NWOBHM had many musical influences, and one was punk.

You cannot say NWOBHM wasn't partly punk and the next statement later say punk wasn't part of it. It was. Don't waver and play both sides. That much is proven.

  • (1)Was I denying that?

(2)NWOBHM has no definitive sound, it was just an explosion of new and diverse british metal bands in the late 70's

Punk was an influence on many bands but only one group among many others with other diverse influences. I wasn't saying at all that some NWOBHM bands weren't influenced by punk in some way or another. But does Pagan Altar or WFG have any speed?

BTW, NWOBHM was not at all influenced by hardcore because hardcore didn't come around until the 80's.

  • Good riff is good

  • Witchfinder General is not back to stay, they just did an album after 25 years, they're not gonna be back, not with the new album anyway. Nobody likes the new vocalist, it's too much crap, and not enough the old one. Young people may like like shit, I don't. Come on.

  • oh yeah, that's an evil track, you can see the death-doom riffs here. a very good song.

  • why do u gotta talk about shit bands like slipknot when u have this wonderful awsome excellent music witchfinder general

u guys need to grow up

  • one of my favorite song not by them just of all time

    i love this band

brings me back to the 80's again

  • watch?v=tvaB2na9HDs and see James Hetfield T-shirt...

  • Members Gary Martin Dermot Redmond Rod Hawkes Phil Cope Former members Zeeb Parkes Steve Kinsell Johnny Fisher Kevin McCready Graham Ditchfield
  • kill the sinners kill them all haha 777!

  • Awesome band

it was hard to find their stuff though

  • I first heard of them as a senior in hs in 83. i think they may have already broke up by then.I thought they were just around from like 81-83

  • I first heard of them as a senior in hs in 83. i think they may have already broke up by then.I thought they were just around from like 81-83

  • A. Rob Halford has said in interviews that he was gay, at least by the mid seventies.

    B. Witchfinder General doesn't have gay members, nor is their music homosexual.

    C. Until your can prove that a person is "shown" queerdom, or that a person is introduced to being gay rather than simply finding out that they are indeed homosexual, your statements lack reasoning or logic.

Your statement is so lacking in credibility and logic, that I must assume that you are either ignorant, or insane.

  • Oh man, gee! Do you know Black Sabbath, the founders of Heavy Metal, and especially Doom Metal? Don't they have soft and slow songs, too, like the beginning "Black Sabbath", "The Warning", "Solitude", "Planet Caravan", have they? Dumb ass! And haven't you ever heard of that Doom Metal Musicians mostly got influenced by the genre "Blues" and "Oriental"? Don't you think it would be boring for themselfs and for their fans, too, if they would play Scales from these Genres only "Hard and heavy"?

  • Is that everything you can answer? Then you're a real dumb ass! Sorry, that I use so offensive language against, but you know, you're mommy and daddy wanted to have some fun, so now you're there, 13 years old, like to listen to Korn and Slipknot, not knowing what True Doom Metal is about...

  • What about "Changes" by Black Sabbath.

  • Changes is middle, Solitude is way better, but thats my opinion. I respect your opinion, too, something which rarely happens on youtube, especially at Metal videos!

  • Expis0, just look at his name, its hard to take him serious. Metal isn't 100 PERCENT BRUTAL MAYHEM!, all the time kid. I think you chose the wrong outlet for your angst. By stating Metal can't be 'Soft', without them being 'pussies', you are clearly insulting everything that came before the genre.

By the way, doom metal has some of the most tranquil and beautiful songs I've ever come across. That alone leaves me questioning your mettle when it comes to picking your music.

  • Thank you for putting that fucking asshole in his place. Some people are so ignorant about classic metal bands (Sabbath, Witchfinder etc). You are exactly right, they were heavily influenced by blues. Cheers

  • hey man this band is pretty awesome. Nwobhm is the best, what started it all. thanks for reccomending!

  • haha nice screenname, OHHH YOU MUST BE SOO EVIL HAHA, your a joke kid, show some fucken respect for the NWOBHM and what started it all, poser.

  • poser lol?

whatever just cause my screen name is what it is dont mean im trying to be evil i love venom

what sounds better 666venomlegions666 or iluvgodgodbutvenomrmyheros

u fucking STUPID MOTHER FUCKING STUPID FUCKING ASS HOLE

LOOK HERE IF U DIED IT WOULD MAKE MY FUCKING DAY

    U FUCKING LOSER

  • ohhh your so angrryy haha shut the fuck up.

  • LOL

  • yeah dude of cource you need to show respect for the awesome doom metal like this but first of all, death, black and modern extreme metal is very good and witchfinder is doom metal not NWOBHM

    =]

  • StanicSUCKpremacy you have no idea what good metal is you soiled cockbag,if you think these guys are true metal go check out other fag bands like Man-O-War and The Sword. The only false thing heard here was what came out of your momma mouth when she promised to abort your scrawny limp dick ass.Don't bother replying unless your gonna cry me a river about how hard your folks took it when you came out of the closet you emo wanna-be,you probably need more eyeliner DOUCHE BAG.

  • YOU SUCK FAT COCK,HOW'S THAT FOR GRAMMAR.I'm so glad it took you 3 weeks to come back with that you fucking cum gargling queer.I told you NOT to reply unless you were going to shed some tears about your comming out story.

  • You eat cock.

  • That comment fails in so many ways...

  • Comment removed

  • No, seriously, it fails. Why all this fucking arguing and insult throwing when we should be talking about how Witchfinder General is awesome? Thread over.

  • cool song

heard this band used to be one of dave mustaine's favorites so i checked em out.

    glad i did

  • Who are the band members, singer sounds similar to Ozzy, very good.

  • Members Gary Martin Dermot Redmond Rod Hawkes Phil Cope Former members Zeeb Parkes Steve Kinsell Johnny Fisher Kevin McCready Graham Ditchfield
  • dethklock ripped off their burning a sinner album cover

  • It was mostly a spoof/tribute.

  • so good, more people should know bout them

  • This is TRUE Metal

  • it rocks

  • Rules! my favorite song of theirs too.

    \m/

  • Great stuff!

  • Witchfinder General was one of those bands that covered my wall, next to Sabbath, Dio, and Iron Maiden. It seemed that they kinda dropped off the face of the Earth not too long after. Damn, I wish they could come back.

  • I know. These guys should come back.

  • As a matter of fact, I went on their website and found out that a new lineup has formed and are in the studio RIGHT NOW laying down more tracks for a NEW ALBUM! They've got four down, but I'm not sure how many total are gonna be on the album.

Man, I feel like a kid again!

  • You serious, Wartooth? That's awesome!

  • Please note while there is some very good information on the so called official WFG web site there is also a lot of crap there. There seems to be a big effort to play down the importance of Zeeb in the story of WFG. Ive met a few people that say Zeeb was WFG and without him Phil would never have got as far musically, Zeeb was his driving force and I think the so called new recording proves this. Actually it was Zeeb who turned Phil from a Status Quo fan to Black Sabbath in the 1970s.

  • The new stuff is decent, but they shouldn't have slapped the witchfinder general name on. I miss Zeeb Parkes, the face of Witchfinder General . Zeeb and Phil are the best writing team ever and nothing can replace that!

  • without zeeb there is no witchfinder...

  • This mother LZOFI! is she the bitch of the Spinal Tap movie. I say your the Juvenile. Get a life dude.

  • I do recall reading a interview where Phil Cope says "My only claim to fame were the lyrics in Rabies, the line - From the Doors of the Dungeons you know, Down to the Bloody Gates of hell"

Anyway, regardless of this he said she said stuff, you need to realize why people are so angry. Personally I thought the resurrected album was ok and I actually enjoyed the riffing and the vocals were not bad but people miss zeeb and it will always be like that.

  • As a matter of fact I have found the exact quote from the interview:

Was the song Satan's Children based on the 70's horror film of the same name?

"Not to my knowledge. No it wasn't. Zeeb did all the lyrics. The only lyrics I think I wrote, I wrote a few to Rabies... "From the doors of the dungeon down to the bloody gates of hell." I think that was my only claim to fame." - Phil Cope

  • Bloody fantastic music, pity the voice doesn't fit in :(!!

  • witchfinder general definitely is one of the most under rated bands of all time!! too bad they only made two full length albums.. does anyone know if ther ever made any music videos?
