Watch another two videos on this song by Dr.U.R.Giridharan. The diction and pronunciation are perfect and the correct lyrics with meaning are also available. The Introductory speech in Video no.1 is superb.
Amazingly devotional unheard how this tillaana was sung, the most inspiring and bring infront of the eyes who are in audience and people listening 10;s of thousands of miles from India, a visual experience of how Lord Sree Krishna was dancing on Kaleeya the great serpent King, will ever remain in the minds like Celestial SUN,MOON,and STARS in the sky. Simply great performance.

talent as expert even in Nattuvangam that a real sangeeta musician executes it in absolutely expertly worthy of musician of knowledge gives immense please of eccastacy to the adudience.
Good point. The composer, Venkatasubbaiyar, called the composition Kalinga nartanam. Lord Krishna's legend is from Mathura (North India). My guess is, the verbal/written Tamil texts at the time referred to the snake Kaliya, as Kalinga. Anyone else with a better answer?
Agree w/ carnaticopia.. Tamil has frequently used its own "mozhi" (language) to adapt terminology that is imoported...case in point being Kalinga Natanam in Tamil referring to Kaliya Nartanam....this slight adaptation gives it the feel of inclusiveness...of it being"our" own in Tamil, with affection...
Kalinga is the old name for Orissa. In tamil war poem named Kalingathu Parani , Kalinga was conquered by the Cholas. I came to know this meaning from that.
Hi Ashwin, Good idea to label/identify accompanists. I shall do so time permitting. However, I am not so much in favour of discriminating audience members as VIP and otherwise. Regards and thanks for the suggestion.
it was a amazing performance by aruna sairam.. she really rocks...her voice as well as her xpressions are mind blowing.. v forget ourselves by hearin this song
Could visualise little Krishna dancing ...The combination of the raga, the tillana lyrics, Aruna's involment everything brought the scene in front of our eyes...amazing!Thanks a lot to you for giving the details of each song.

Kalinga was the name of the black serpant that Krishna danced on. Thats why Krishna has the name Kaalinganardhan.
