I love the West Side Story version because their voices are so raw and powerful and they OWN these characters. I love the Glee version because Darren Criss and Lea Michelle are incredibly talented and they are both passionate about music and theatre.

Anyway(my two cents)they're not easy to compare.Lea&Darren did a good job. Natalie(tech)&Richard have stronger voices in this type of singing imo.Can't we just take each for what they are individually&enjoy this. If you want to go on about how much better glee is go to a glee video.

I don't know what the discussion was about "Glee" vs. "Westside Story" but I can tell you I saw WSS back I'm the late 60's and to this day I have never seen a movie musical that is comparable with that. It's as good as it gets. I'm 69 years old and I still recall scenes from that movie... especially the dance sequence. GREAT.

@shangy91 The problem is we have a very good idea what Glee is and what it's about - The problem is the whole production is terrible. I'd Rather watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang 20 times over than one season of Glee. Simply because that experience would be better. That's the honest truth and that just says something about the lack of quality within the Glee studio. It's hard for me to explain how bad the show is. When I can turn words to shit I might stand a chance.

They have trained Broadway proffesionals to fill the roles, not teeny bob Miley Cyrus lookalikes which is obviously what you've branded the show as instantly. They want to make sure it appeals to a new generation sure, but they don't turn it into 'pop'. They haven't done that with ANY of these songs, I do NOT know where you even got that from. Plus I agree, West Side Story WILL always be remembered, but so will Glee. Not for 'destroying' songs-

For a show about and watched by teenagers to riase issues of sex, sexual orientation, faith/religion/secularism, bullying, race, poverty, etc., there is most definately substance and a lot of it is new and quite controversial. Perhaps you don't watch it and are judging a book by its cover? Obviously it doesn't have the artistic merit of the Broadway greats, but don't overlook what it does offer; a chance for adolecents to think about issues.
