  • Is there a way to convert the contents of a cell to a cell reference? For example, if I have a numeric 3 in column a1, is there a way I can use that 3 with the letter f to represent cell f3 in a formula? Thanks!

  • @Ultimist , try this formula:

    =INDIRECT("F"&A1)

  • Thank,thanks,thanks a LOT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Microsoft calls it the "Cross Hair" and in English cross = angry and hair = rabbit, so I was just trying to be funny.

  • Is it possible to generate a serial number in excel, in a single cell that is updated/rolled on, each time the form is used?

I have got it down to rolling on by 1 digit daily, by subtracting one date from another, but I can't figure out how to generate the number more than once a day.

Basically, this form will be used for dispatching goods out through stores.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I am glad that it helped. Search for 'Excel Basics' and "Highline Excel Class', I have those two Excel series that have even better videos than this one (I made it 2.5 years ago).

  • The excel sheet is not clear to watch what is happening

  • Yes, I am sorry about that. I made this video 2.5 years ago. Since then I have made over 1000 more and they are much better after the first few ones that I made. Search For 'Excel Basics' or 'Highline Excel Class' and you will find in those series about 70 clear Excel videos.

  • you know, not in the spirit of hate mail, but I'm glad you subdued your unbridled enthusiasm a bit (could be subdued further still). enthusiasm is a good thing, but listening to a voice with too much of it, for a period of more than 10 seconds, is usually extremely aggravating for most people over the age of 5. great videos though!

  • how to get to your channel to download the videos

  • I must ask what your job is. Your expertise is excel surely extends past YouTube. What kinds of benefits do you receive from knowing the buisness world's most popular tool? It must be high paying.

By the way, what happened to your enthusiasum in the later videos. It was entertaining.

  • The enthusiasm should still be there, it is just more subdued. I got too much hate mail and so I toned it down!

  • Thanks a lot. This really helped.

  • You are welcome!

  • hello Sir,

I want to download your excel function file can u please give me your website address so that i can download it from there.

  • Search YouTube for "excelisfun", then look for the channel link, then go to the excelisfun channel, then a video will automatically play at the excelisfun channel that shows how to download the files.

YouTube does not let us post web addresses in the comment section.

  • Wow. The beginning of the Excel magic :). The dawn of a new era that brought Excel to YouTube in a glorified MikeGirvinesque way.

Good old Excelisfun :). A service to YouTube. I assume you're a YouTube partner? I'd be surprised if you weren't, you have all the hallmarks of an eligible partner.

  • Yes, I am a partner, but I have no ads and take no ad revenue (to keep it pure).

Be careful of Excel magic tricks 30 - 80 and YouTubers Love Excel 1 - 20, because I was a little over the top in terms of enthusiasm - I got lots of hate mail during those, and so I toned it down since then...

  • You got hate mail?! Blimey! I'd have to check those vids to see what it is that made anybody do such a thing.

  • Yes, people called me some pretty bad things and some funny things like:

    a hip-hop chipmunk

a first grade teacher that talks down to people

    an unprofessional teacher...

  • Blimey, who could do such a thing! Are we not even allowed to be enthusiastic anymore? Has YouTube become such a war zone for trolls, political and religious flamers, spammers and haters that nobody allows a positive attitude to go by anymore? What has YouTube come to ...

  • Ananimity makes the human pattern of meanness worse online.

Meanness is usually learned (not always).

Kindness is innate in humans (just because we all just want to be loved).

  • hi mike, To much time i've seen you videos! i was in holidays and i traveled to differents cities!. But now i'm back. one cuestion: ALT+F1 inserts the defaults chart. ?how can i change the default chart to another new one?.

    Thanks.

  • Dear shiryu008,

I'll make a video later in th week. There are two ways, and the best way takes a bunch of clicks and saving as a template.

    More later...

    --ExcelIsFun

  • could you give the link of downloading those sheets? thank you

  • Dear wangansel,

I would if I could, but YouTube does not allow you to paste a link in the comment section.

If you want to download the workbooks, click on the "ExcelIsFun" blue link on the right side of any one of the videos. Then scroll down the ExcelIsFun channel web page, and near the bottom is a blue link that gets to the web page where you can download the workbooks.

Also, watch the How To video at the channel - it will show you!

If you still have trouble, let me know!
