I did look at the comments, and a couple scared me: it's the hazing aspect that's made it difficult for us to elect and have some of our troop members go through Ordeal and Brotherhood.
Again, it's not being seen only by your ceremonialists privately, but by those who might not know the difference between public mocking and private spoofing. That's what troubles me.
AccidentL partial post there. Sorry if I was discourteous, and I can be as cheerful as the next one. But this video access isn't limited to those who know your lodge or activities now vs then. It isn't shown only at a CrackerBarrel with only you doing the program, only that day. Anyone can access it, and see it as mocking Scouting in general and OA in particular, and it doesn't come across to me as something strengthening the Ideals of Scouting and the Order.
@luthyen84 Again, look at the five years worth of comments. Yes, not all of them are positive, but the majority are people giving their lodge and/or vigil names. Isn't that a modern version of brotherhood?
And we're not mocking things. We're spoofing and satirizing. There's a big difference. To mock means you have either little knowledge or respect of your subject, or both. I think you can see that's not the case here.
@luthyen84 It's meant mostly for the people who were at that event as something to remember it by. It was one of the first videos I ever posted. As you can see from many of the comments below, it's become something for OA members nationwide to identify with and even trade stories about their lodges, thereby strengthening the ties of brotherhood.

@luthyen84 Yes, this video is devoid of any Scouting message, but that's not what we set out to do. It was a Fellowship weekend. Nobody there was a new inductee, so we made something completely off the wall using the Ordeal and (for those in the know) Brotherhood ceremonies as a basis. I do still make videos for Ordeals, and they're still silly, but rest assured I always try to put in a positive message to entice newcomers to get active.
So is there a corresponding video that you've made showing the positive aspects of OA that you know as an associate lodge advisor, Vigil member, Eagle Scout with 3 palms, NOAC and jambo attendee etc etc? I'd like to see that one..
@luthyen84 Our Saturday night programs - both Ordeal and Fellowship - are full of activities, speeches, games, etc. that strengthen the ideals of Scouting and the Order. SOMETIMES part of our program is watching a silly comedy video that was made on site that day. It's meant to be light hearted and NOT taken seriously. This is one of them.
@luthyen84 Also, you're judging me and my lodge based on a 5:00 video made 5 YEARS AGO. Perhaps you should be a little more "courteous" and have a bit more of a "cheerful spirit" about what my lodge does then and now instead of being so judgmental.
New ordeal brothers can find this video. I hope that they can see that it's made by people who apparently have no idea of what OA, or for that matter Scouting itself, is supposed to be. I wish you all had taken off your sahes and uniforms before you made this.
@luthyen84 Buddy, I'm an associate lodge advisor, a Vigil member, and an Eagle Scout with 3 palms. I've been to 3 NOACs, 2 Jambos, and countless events. I think I know plenty of what the OA and Scouting is about. This is a silly film that was made for a Fellowship weekend. There are inside jokes that some will understand and some won't. No ordeal member is going to make up their mind on the OA on a 5:00 comedy short, and if they do then they don't belong in the OA or Scouting in the first place.
My ordeal/fellowships are like the funnest weekends of the year. If there are a lot of ordeals and not too much work then me and my friends will sneak off, smoke, then hang out in the cabin. We light a lot of stuff on fire too, if anybody comes with an axe body spray can, we'll explode it, is any of your guy's lodges like that, I mean leaders don't come anywhere near our cabin.
Jeeze.... see that scouts hadn't changed. My troop turned into a bunch of momma's boys towards the end, mom & dad wouldn't let me quit till I became a Eagle Scout. Worked on that quickly and got out. BTW, our calling out ceremonies had been way cooler! We got to grab the guys run them down the hill and throw them down on the ground in front of the fire. We had some mommies complain we had been too rough on their babies. I went through it and feel I really earned my sash.
I know what you mean. Our system got changed to an alagnomat system, so now we can't screw with the ordealies. It was hazing, but it was fun. You never really got hazed if you we're an ass either.
@bruceauman These days you can earn your sash by living the admonition, and giving back to your unit, chapter, lodge, council, or the community. Only through true Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, and Service can you truly find the Arrow.
@pigbot1 its all fun and games until one of your brothers dies from that. A boy (SPL of summer camp staff) was playing with rubbing alcohol, the fire went into the bottle, and he ended up throwing the flaming bottle on to three staffers. One of them died a week later from complications due to his burns. Please think before you act.
By the way, the ordeal should be all work for everyone, its a great time to give back to your camp. Its a Brotherhood of Cheerful Service.
nice vid but the talkin could be a lil more clearer i had 2 watch it again to hear it to get the inside jokes but other than that nice vid good for a laugh
I am a Brotherhood member from Wyona #18 and this is the best cops spoof ever. You can only get the inside jokes and name permutations if you belong to the order. Again...Great Vid.
Hey, nice video. Were all three of the "indians" with their sashes Vigil? That's awesome. I'm currently Life, but not in the O.A., so the inside jokes went right over my head. Again, nice video.

@luthyen84 Like I said, not all the comments are positive, however most of them have been.
In any case, you've said what you needed to say, and so have I. I see no reason to take down this video.
Time to move on.

Obviously you've never heard of fellowship.
This is not meant to be serious, it's just a silly thing we did at a FELLOWSHIP weekend.
And people like you who can't loosen up and drop the whole "better than thou" shtick are the idiots.
