Something to chime in on here - I've heard that Ligers are born with a condition that they can never stop growing. The more they eat, the bigger they get, until their metabolism gives out and they die. So if humans did sleep with aliens or whatever, who could have just been regular height or slightly taller than us, maybe the offspring had a similar gigantism due to the mixing of two different species.
