Turning on red light. Here is paper, here are tweezers.

Clumsy, heavy, old photo-camera appears from the depth of empty sheet.

Time left it's mark on it: scratches, cracks.

What is we try to remove those?

This device is part of a computer.

It turns our picture into electronic signals and writes them onto magnetic tape.

On the screen of a computer, signals become image again.

Each signal is a small square - whole picture is made of those like a mosaic.

The original photo is no longer needed - computer "remembered" it perfectly.

Human operator helps machine to see damaged parts on a photo.

The machine must solve difficult task - to calculate which dark and light squares are missing and replace them on a screen.

One more command and - the image did not look this good for decades.

Now it can be transferred back to photo-paper.

Just like that this portrait of poet Vladimir Mayakovsky was returned to us.
