Nope no 4.5 hours. Basic use, you may get 2 hours - 2 and 1/2 hours if youre lucky. After two years of light use, the streaming and web page loading is crawling. I used the recovery feature to set it back to factory settings - STILL really really slow. Up until last month it worked great. Looks great, was great but going downhill after its out of warranty on 1 and a half years of light use (2 to 6 hours per week, if that). The recomended F11 Key Recovery Manager never worked. $500+ wasted.

even in the time that this video was uploaded in, that laptop sucked, i mean really sucked, and this interviewer interviews like its a super pc, what an idiot... Noob... its not even good, I think it was the worst laptop you could get at that time... well there is celeron laptops, but come on, that laptop doesn't worth a shit...
This guy is wrong it can play some 3d games very good i can play all the counter stirke games at almost 60 fps most of the time and it works well with most of the source games i just wouldn't try it with games like crysis,it's a great laptop for internet and bussness.
This should be much cheaper. It is excellent because it is student/business friendly, and, what I believe is the best part, is that it is only 5.5 pounds!
I have a 15 pound laptop that I use for school sometimes and its a drag carry around.
i`ve got this notebook as a gift, but i can change it for a better one payin the money difference. My budget is really low, but i want to know if this notebook will run World of Warcraft (it´s my only vice lol)
Just bought it. I installed Windows XP. The only problem I have is that after XP loads, the hotkeys for screen brightness (Fn+F7 & Fn+F8) don't work anymore. Also when I plug the AC cable brightness decreases and when I'm on battery it increases, which is the opposite of what should happen. Anybody knows how to fix this? I assume it is from the graphics driver (downloaded from HP site). Do you have the same problem in Ubuntu?
the brightness hotkey works perfectly on mine -installed with ubuntu 8.10. I didn't need to tweak te setting or something like that, just out of the box. I just need to press either lower/brighter lamp plus the [f] function key to make it works. Or perhaps this is an XP specific problem, then.
glad to help :) Like I said, it's a great laptop for that price tag. Upgrading the memory is recommended -all unix based systems, including mac os, love RAM. I put 2 GB extra (so 3GB total) and it works perfect.
well certainly there are enough competitors out there with nicer resolution and better image production. for this price tag you shouldn't expect magic. (it's 1024 by 768 by the way)... i would advise you to pay a visit to a local store and just give it a test... i do mostly text editing and internet browsing, so i cannot really say something on this....
under ubuntu all works perfectly out of the box. pm me if you need the correct driver for xp. I tried to post it here but somehow it didn't get through.
thank you guys. I eventually fixed the problem by installing the hotkeys driver/program. Everything works well now and I'm very satisfied by my HP 550. Great laptop. Perfect for what I need.
Just bought this laptop and installed ubuntu 8.10 on it. Works out of the box like a charm. With Vista everything went too slow. So, finally Vista lasted only 20 min before I decided to reformat everything :-) Wireless works great under Ubuntu, so does bluetooth, SD-reader, DVD, and even all my peripherals like webcam, printer etc. Highly recommended. Not with M$ Vista though. (who needs windows these days, by the way)
Does the keyboard rattle? somebody told me that when u press the Enter key, the whole keyboard sinks in a bit in the area of Enter key. Does that happen with your model?
This doesn't occur to me. But that's likely will vary as it is a subject of individual experience and depends how much force you put in every keystroke. But in general it is advisable to give yourself a test at local store if you considering buying it. Given the price tag however this is an entry level one and not likely suitable for heavy user. That said, this model imho values more than its price.
I wouldn't go as far and call him an idiot but I don't like his reviews either. Very superficial. I can find out what ports it has from the specs, I do know how to read. If somebody makes a review it better tell me something I don't know.
hey iam using this laptop right now .. no .. its actually the older one. its HP 530. Its alright if you're on a budget. Not fancy at all.
