Walter Koenig the German tuner of Ferraris always said that the Ferrari flat 12 had serious potential, and therefore it is hardly suprising he made his insane 1000hp "Koenig Competition" based on it in the late 80's.
@ekbusdriver - yes it did. Look at the 37 second mark of the video at the tach needle. The speedo is totally maxed out and the tach is at 8K. You can't see the tip of the tach needle because of the steering wheel, but the tail end of it is at 1,000 so that means the tip is at 8,000.
@512BBi Well, IMHO, it never completely lined up. No matter, it was closer than I initially thought, and it is a SWEET-ass clip. Just wish you had some numbers after the pull!!!!
@ekbusdriver - actually, I believe it probably hit 8,100 or 8,200. If you look closely at the tail end of the needle at the frames at 36 and 37 seconds, you will see it is higher than the 1,000 mark.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
@arpusiiikm acutally mate it wont hark it as when he puts it in neutrul the car is fre rolling so there for he might as well be stopeed and doing the same thing reving in nutural wont harm it trust me
Beautiful sound. Even better than Porsche's air cooled horizontally opposed six cylinder because the horizontally opposed twelve is like two Porsche motors joined at the crankshaft and made in Italy.
@moondog637 - I was sitting in the passenger seat recording the video, so I know that Steve took to 8K, and a bit more.... You can tell by the sound too.
@moondog637 >>>> car was well known for being a piece of shit? This particular car or the TR in general? If you're saying the TR in general you're full of shit. Sure, it was a costly car to maintain for its 30k service and clutch but give me an example of it being a piece of shit. if you're saying this particular car is then that is another story. I have never had any issues with my TR's when they are maintained properly.
@moondog637 what was the criticism of this car? who wrote it was a piece of shit? From what I have heard the shifting in ferraris is bad - people brag about how difficult it is to shift, as if it is some kind of bonus to have a poorly designed transmission that you paid top dollar for.
@SeeProfileForDetails It is not poorly designed. The Clutch and Gearbox are heavy because they are designed that way. You aren't driving a Fiat Punto your driving a Ferrari.
@GaiaOnline777 So they design formula one cars to shift slowly so that when the driver is going around a turn on Monaco he crashes into a wall instead of focusing on driving? makes sense to me.
@SeeProfileForDetails Simply because people don't have the arm strength to pull the shifter through the better made gears doesn't mean it's crap. You also realize F1 cars are not true manual and just paddle shifters. Simply because Ferrari has formula 1 heritage doesn't mean the cars are exactly like them.
@GaiaOnline777 Formula one cars in the 80's had shifters that you had to put your hand down on, sequential. New formula one cars shift automatically so the driver can focus on what he is doing. A 5 speed or 6 speed style transmission that shifts easy, is a benefit, not a loss. For some idiotic fucktarded reason, ferrari owners and fans like you think it's a benefit and an advantage to have a car that shifts difficult, so that when you are going around a corner, you crash into a wall. GoodForYou
@SeeProfileForDetails Wait, why would shifting have anything to do with crashing into walls. The Brakes are for slowing down into a corner you down shift on exit. It may be heavy but it's a damn good gear box.
@GaiaOnline777 When driving fast you shift before turning and every millisecond counts. Obviously under a high pressure situation, fucking around with the stiff stickshift might get you killed. Now I'm not saying it makes the car useless, I"m saying you pay all this money for a car and what do you get? a shifter that's worse than a honda civic shifter. Your anecdotal "it's a damn good gear box" doesn't help. Prove why it is a good gear box, not just saying it because the car is red and pretty.
That shifting was REALLY rough.

I believe the fuel cutout for the 512TR is more like 7250 rpm (about what it hit here), althogh I'm sure the engine could take 8000.

@400SA - My friend had his Ferrari performance "chipped" so the rev limiter no long functions. He can rev it as high as he wants to within reason.
