  • Guys, I'm a 16 year old South African boy and I love my country. We have come along way, we learn about Apartheid nearly everyday. And I am so proud to say that South Africa is a peaceful, beautiful country. We are still healing from Apartheid, but we are on our way. This video is proof.

  • @JulezG101 Not completely peaceful........yet.

  • @JulezG101 i hope your right mate. im 19 and from SA. im on the other side of the world now though

  • Thanx for sharing this Beauty! Truely a Great Heart!

  • hayi this white boy mara, yoh uyangbulala mani...love you johnny

  • i belive that there are only two types of people in this world. Good people and bad people, no matter what race or religion or nationality. stick with the good people

and i garantee you will be happy for the rest of your life

  • Why this was not the official South Africa World Cup song I will never know.

  • What a song....had never heard of this guy before stumbling on him here. Bloody awesome stuff.

  • @cleverfeller hahah awesome. I m sicking of moaning fucking saffies

  • @cleverfeller The crime and general lawlessness is a major reason why most people leave. Sure England can't provide the same lifestyle you can get in SA, but in certain ways that's actually why people go there. One thing you must consider is England is far, FAR more politically correct than SA, which means that racist people can't leave SA to go be racist safely somewhere else. Instead of being lynched in the streets they'll be stabbed in prison.

  • @johnzoil- actually, the current scientific consensus that humans evolved in Africa is not based solely on the fossil record, although that is corroborative. More compelling evidence is available from DNA sequencing. That also explains why Africa has more genetic diversity than all the other continents put together, as we would expect if the 'bottleneck' theory is to hold up. We're all ultimately of African descent. Sorry if that burst any cherished bubbles.

  • Still searching...

  • Im sat here watching this video and in my heart id love to be Back in Bulawayo ...happy days But with a English wife and three daughters who couldnt go any where with out 240v for hair dryers etc I guess it will only be just a dream of what could be some day

  • while many leave, someone arrives and stays.

I want to tell you this, I'm 21, I'm from Italy, I have always been passionate about wildlife, and I arrived in SA to study and work as a field guide.

Let me say that I truly love my adoptive homeland, even with all the problems we have, but, in the end, wich country doesn't have its own? :)

  • born and bred South African ,proud of who I am ,it took me twenty years to find out after I left South africa

  • I am proud to be Johnny's nephew, and I've been slowly uploading his entire discography to YouTube, including his rarest album, New World Survivor, which had a limited edition of 2000 autographed copies. Check it out on my channel

  • @acestylerr Foreigners have the right to be anywhere they want . About the English people , they always have been bastards , , Newthey had spread misery everywhere they went , North America , Australia Zealand , South Africa , India , Irland , Scotland , you name it .They were rapists , murderers and slavers .

  • I hear this song and all I can think of is how proud I am to be a South African.

  • Woooohoooo!

  • Save your bickering for world war three.......no matter what you say he captured the hearts of whites and blacks. Who cares where he lives. Should we all stay somewhere because somebody else thinks so. I was born in England of Irish parents, brought up in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe, back to England now in Australia. South africa was where we holidayed...........my god AFRICA is such a special place, we might leave it, but it never leaves us. I wil be back to see my family soon so hamba gahle zonke!!!.

  • I love south africa...a citizen and used to be married to a native south african...an amazing country and johnny is a real representative.....the white zulu

  • @cleverfeller - See it as a stepping stone to get on with your career! There is no 'kak' London, the UK has its problems like South Africa does, although different but at least you can get on with a working career!! I may have run away too but one thing I have learned is to "look out of the box". You should too!!!

  • ...What this guy did was almost more about politics than about music! Music have led many revolutions in the past, and can be strongly linked to politics. I'm not talking about the "music industry" and 95% of the shit we hear on the radio, I'm talking about music as an art form (yes, that still exists).

    Music is the weapon!!

  • I don't believe what I'm reading here. Clegg, an "opportunist who cashed on SA ethnic sound?", "What has politics got to do with music"??

Just a reminder: Johnny Clegg is the first white guy to form a band with black dudes... we're talking about SA during apartheid here, people: that kind of stuff was pretty illegal. Some artists in other countries have been shot for less than that and are now legends...

  • Tell me what the bloody hell has politics got to do with music???.

Johnny and Sipho are true legends from the days of Jaluka and then Savuka, once born a South African always a South African no matter what the coulour of your skin is and the music is native to your ear just like the blood in your veins and the pride in your heart. If you want to talk about politics then rather safe it for somewhere else because its most certainly does not belong on here. Amandla!!!.

  • Is that the only Zulu dance? The leg kick thing he does in every single video??

  • I lived there between 1987 and 1997. Beautiful country and people.

Seen it under Apartheid and after, left because my Japanese wife(met there) wanted to go home.

Still got Family there in Jo'burg.

Don't think you can truly understand Johnny Clegg unless you lived there for some time.

My experiences there were very different from what most people would expect, seen the good and the very bad too.

  • @ZenBuilder Johnny Clegg is an English Jew who cashed in on the SA ethnic sound. He's no more African than an Inuit. I think Paul Simon did the same on the Graceland album.

  • @Johnzoil Well aren't we the cynic. I'm a white Zimbabwean and consider myself every bit as African as a San bushman. Johnny Clegg did incredible stuff; he spoke out when a lot of people didn't. And FYI, we're all African (yes, even Clegg!) if you look back far enough! :)

  • @TearsLikeStars I didn't say I don't like their music. They had a few very good songs. You're not one of these people that believes the liberal "we all came from Africa bullshit" They find the oldest fossils there because it's had millions of years of stable weather (dry, no ice ages).

  • @Johnzoil Actually, the ice age would have helped to preserve fossils not destroy them!

  • Its truely South African, I recall the movie so well to.:)

  • This song makes me want to shoot Julius Malema.

  • So amazing how apartheid is the first thing ignorant idiots fall back on when talking to South Africans. Maybe a history lesson, or even better VISIT THE COUNTRY YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, before airing your ill-informed comments would help you to not look like a complete fool. And don't bother accusing me of anything, I was 5 years old when Mandela came to power and I love the new South Africa.

  • @andrea2011africa Well said. We need more opinions like yours!

  • @cleverfeller

Just as you love your home I love mine. To celebrate yours you don't have to put down mine.

  • Roman138- I'll second that and I'll add, we didn't run from he country- South Africa/ Africa will ALWAYS be in our hearts. It gave us goosebumps standing proud amongst the soccer greats of the world- Knowing SA had pulled it off when everyone else thought we will fall flat on our faces... Amandla South AfriCca! Viva Johnny Clegg- Viva SA Music Pioneer!

  • lol i love how the likes out weigh the dislikes almost 110:1 :D

  • @acestylerr The words that I noticed more than others were," a long time ago".

  • I LOVE THIS SONG, it's the 30ieth anniversary did you know? BRILLIANT, JUST PLAIN OLD BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!

  • Can i like 100 times

  • Johnny Clegg you legend!

  • This oke is my favourite artist...he captures the joy and life of the african spirit!! a true living legend...

  • How sad that some people have to find a reason to seek contention in such a beautiful song. I was introduced to Johhny Clegg when I visited RSA a few years ago--it was a black cab driver who told me about this "fantastic" singer and dancer. The cab driver was proud to share a bit of what he considered to be South African culture. In some ways, the history of South Africa mirrors the history of the United States. The politics are behind us now...can't we enjoy the melding of cultures?

  • @greyduiker that is quite true i have been to RSA and the US, RSA somehow mirrors US in culture

  • @cleverfeller hahaha apartheid....never surprises me how often that card keeps getting dished. Well considering apartheid ended in 1994 and I arrived in London in 2007, the answer is no. I travelled and tried something different, I didnt run away...nice assumption for a cleverfeller.

  • I heard this on a Romanian radio station last night...gave me feelings of nostalgia and pride. Proud to be African.

  • Please give me a thumbs up for Johnny, what a great man with a great vision. He was leading the struggle in South Africa when we needed a leader, now he is leading us into the free world. Viva Johnny, Viva!

  • Simply BEAUTIFUL - both song and video!!!!

  • I've been a Johnny Clegg fan for .....too many years that I care to remember. Never been to Africa-but love the music that comes from there. Long may it come.

  • don't worry africa

i'm coming home and this i promise you!!!!

  • you're right, be proud of your country and of where you come from.

  • HOME.

  • My daughter visited South Africa this past spring with her boyfriend, who was born there, and she bought me a Johnny Clegg CD...I cant get enough of it. He is an amazing singer and has so much heart. I want to go there because I am so in love with this whole culture, and the beauty of it. This man is a wonderful musician...he deserves so many stars for his beauty. God bless his voice and his words...God Bless Nelson Mandela for his trueness to his country. Amazing!!!!!

  • Johnny Clegg is an inspiration not only to the white afrikanas, but to us all. Though we are many races of people we all come together as one people singing with one voice.

  • @Mega12475 I believe there's only one race: the HUMAN race.

  • I love you johnyy, never appreciated this guy enough, till I came to new zealand, another great peoplz!! love you south africa!!! I love you all

  • I bet he has found the spirit of the great heart!

  • I am a Canadian fan of Johnny Clegg, Sipho Mchunu, and Juluka since I was a teenager in the 1980's. I would like us all to stand together with our brothers and sisters, as Johnny and his fellow musicians do, regardless of our colour. Is a Granny Smith apple any more delicious than a Fuji apple? No - just different!!!

  • I remember seeing Johny in backstreets of BRAAMFONTEIN..writing songs...I am proud to say you I saw a human being.. a carrier of humanty... ons GOD sal ons dra...ons leeu

  • johnny clegg is truly a master of his mind and kingdom. South Africa has the best of everything. I might live in US, but i get my medicine for SA.

  • Quelle énergie j'en reviens pas.......

  • goose bumps bru - so lekker kry ek terwyl ek hierdie luister :) SA is the best and will forever remain home - mooi bly - hamba kahle !

  • Enjoyed his visit to Wellington NZ last year. He still has the moves even though he is already mid 50's. Bought DVD, Cap and T-Shirt. Everybody enjoyed it.

  • Guka 'mzimba (body grow old)

Sala 'nhliziyo (but heart remain behind)

  • this guy is like one of the most under-rated artists in the world today; he gets it done & has a lot of class..

  • What language and what do they say during the chorus (the back up)???

  • @DanRioNY it is Zulu. One of the native languages of South Africa. It means "body grow old but heart remain behind"

  • bokkie bokkie

  • we only ask the poorest of humanity to sacrifice. the rest of us sing , dance and have photo ops: while living in 26,000 sq ft homes, fly private jets and say save the planet. ----- give me a brake

  • good video

  • Africa will always be in our blood ........love the music!

  • This makes me miss home, Proudly South African, i WILL go home one day!

  • @SunetteM

    My words exactly

  • Love this song!

Jock of the Bushveld is my ALL time favorite, just brilliant.

  • i always get a rock in the throat watching and listening to this video.

    i miss my country :(

  • test

  • test

  • i love jonny

  • great heart is eqvalant to the american dream :-)

  • The the "Great Heart" as i understand it is what we all are all searching for but in an African way :P if get what what i mean.

  • Commie

  • What is the "Great Heart" that he sings about?

  • His Dog ! Or His belief that we can live as one nation. x

  • A true South African and the bushveld go hand in hand. I love my country and all it's natural beauties. I am proud of who i am and where i come from despite the problems.

  • @ROMAN138 iknow exactly what you mean

i am south african tooo and it it is a mystical place

  • @ROMAN138 Genius need i say more i miss Africa So much,,,,,xx

  • @ROMAN138 I wish I could share your ideals. I really do. South Africa is a amazing place. But I really don't think raising a family or living here is worth it. What future can I give them? Hated outright by most of the population. Denied work because their white, denied promotion, living in fear constantly. behind walls, razor wire and electric fences. I am leaving because of the racism, the crime, the corruption, being hated, being taxed to death and because I can't get a job because I am white

  • @neurocidesakiwi I am truly sorry you have had a bad experience i really am but i do think that bad experiences are out there in any country it's just that i have been lucky enough to have the resolve to weather the storms that have come my way and have stayed on the right path in RSA. I truly wish you and your family all the best wherever you choose to continue with your endevours.

  • @JOeLUCKw what I mean is that Zimbabwe was once considered to be the bread basket of Africa. A rich and thriving place then Mugabwe made life so difficult for the white farmers there that nearly all have left and now look at the poor, violent, third world shithole it has become. This is what I meant SA is on its way to becoming the next Zims.

  • This made me cry OMG I miss S. Africa so much. I had to leave due to the overwhelming violence that is taking over this most fantastic country. I fear it will become the next Zims. Bless you SA you are never far from my thoughts.

  • @attax44 what do u mean by Zims?

  • @JOeLUCKw He means Zimbabwe.

  • The 2 oceans meet at a place called Cape Agullas and not cape point. The sea is very turbulent there... Best time to visit is Autumn March - May

  • Such cool words....

    Guka 'mzimba (body grow old)

Sala 'nhliziyo (but heart remain behind)

  • Awesome singer and beautiful soul of south of Africa. Johnny's heart belongs to the Zoulous.

  • Those witties in the front row make me laugh

  • @smurfieboo I was one of those "whities" in the front row. Glad I gave you a laugh. It was a wonderful show, as Johnny's always are. He's a songwriter, singer, dancer, anthropologist and activist; a South African we can all be proud of.

  • @69oldnick - Thank you for your courteous reply. I too have seen him live and concur, it was a fantastic show.

  • Amazing song.

Johnny and the Zoulous rules in the world

  • saw him last night!!! it was excellent!!

  • ill see you there! coming down from Tauranga!! Mzantsie fo sho!!

  • Johnny Clegg and Savuka are just OUTSTANDING in almost every song. Great music and excellent lyrics. I love Paul Simon's african songs and Sting is sure on my Top 5 but you are right Johnny Clegg can kick their asses any day of the week.

  • im going back to zimbabwe to enough of this uk mud island

  • Paul Simon and Sting can only hope in vain that they could ever match the magnificence of Johnny Clegg's music. He shows that depth of soul and spirit is what really counts, not color of skin.

  • Johnny Clegg has inspired and touched the hearts of people all over the world with his music and message. This comes from an Indian guy, who grew up listening to his songs. I'm eagerly waiting for an alubm featuring Johnny and Jesse Clegg.

  • Johnny Clegg and Savuka are South African music and are the benchmark by which all SA artists aspire to be.

  • Clegg was what Paul Simon and Sting only aspired to be.

  • YES! YES! YES! You said it all!

  • I know Clegg was way before Paul Simon in making African music popular worldwide. This song is so much like some of Simon's songs. Paul should have acknowledged the influence.

  • paul simon piggybacked,,,,,,,,,johnny clegg lived it, yes should have, but he was looking in from the outside

  • Johnny Clegg is Pure Awesomeness

    Dela

    Asimbonanga

    Great Heart

    Cruel, Crazy Beautiful World

Impi, man I could go on forever. To bad I could not make his concert this year

  • Great music. Awesome artist!! He makes me proud to be from ZA.

  • Johnny Clegg has become a legend, such a masterful blend of music cultures.Agreat rendition of traditional zulu dance, pure energy and rhythm

Ilove his music....Thanks to "THE WHITE ZULU"...

This song reminds me so of the movie >Jock of the Bushfeld.

  • great memories and great artist!!

  • I love this song.. the band, Johnny and even back when Juluka was on.

  • The world is full of strange behaviour

Every man has to be his own saviour

I know I can make it on my own if I try

But I'm searching for a Great Heart to stand me by

  • Aweesome music!!!
