I have to say it, if it wasn't for the Montreal Screwjob, the Attitude Era could have never existed, if it wasn't for that, WWF could not have been in it's best and WCW or ECW could have defeated WWF before great moments as the InVasion, the WWF Undisputed Championship, if it wasn't for this screwjob we could not have enjoyed with wrestlers like Eddie Guerrero or Ken Shamrock and wrestlers with ATTITUDE or stables like DX that were THE BEST, and WCW could have still stayed in the TOP

So, who exactly did the fans in America want to cheer for? I'm confused because Bret was a heel in the U.S. because of his anti-american storyline, and HBK was a heel for hitting The Undertaker with a chair and later forming DX.

Personally I cheered for Shawn Michaels in whatever he did, because he was my childhood hero, but who did everyone else want to win in this matchup? I'm curious.

Maybe that's why it was held in Canada so fans would be cheering for at least somebody.

Vince McMahon had second thoughts about the 20 year deal they signed a year earlier, especially after Bret started objecting to the content of the storylines and dictating to Vince what he would and would not do. So he signed with WCW. But, he was still WWF champion, and they couldn't agree on how he would lose the belt. Vince was afraid he'd take it to WCW and trash it, so he double crossed Bret after they'd agreed to how the match would end.

I really love the Series 97 promo video. It's just shawn and bret "shooting" on each other ( :D ) and you can see how stiff they hit each other. Bret Hart was on his way to WCW and this was his last match because of his pride was not willing to drop the title to Shawn michaels in his home town, but wanted to win and retire the title next night on raw. Vince was not willing to take the chance of Bret Hart possibly taking the title to WCW how he culd do that i dnt know, hence Bret losing the match without tapping out and his rage.
