Did you notice that first message you get from the ruins is basically paying homage to the "Trouble with Tribbles" episode of the original Star Trek. Nice touch. Loved this game, and what an absolutely awesome, and surprising ending! ;)
Wow, talk about digging out an ancient game! Starflight is the first game I ever bought, and it was also the first game that I stayed up all night playing. Just a great game!
HardWarUK, yes... in addition to capturing creatures and having your lander eaten by them, you can also make recordings of them. The recordings aren't worth as much as a captured creature, but have no weight.
If you pause at 05:52, right below capture you will see "record bio-data". If I recall correctly, the manual lists this as a holographic recording... so a 3D picture of the critter.
@JustAnotherMutant Oh, I see, missed that in the manual. So does that mean you can see a picture of the critter in game, or is it just data you can sell?
@FlashFizz Sure, this could very easily run on a phone if only they could convert it and get the touch controls working and all, which would take rewriting the entire game, but there are already some similar titles in the App Store. I haven't played much Galaxy on Fire (or something like that) but it seems awesome.
I have the genesis version. I named my Ship the John Lear and and all my crew members are Bob Lazar clones. 1-5 clones of Bob Lazar. Its anawesome game. I love it.
there was a 2nd starflight game, starflight 2 traderoutes of the cloud nebula, and there's the starflight 3 project.. though thats... not going anywhere fast
@jesusthathurts There already WAS an 'unofficial' Starflight 3 - the developers left EA and made "Protostar: War on the Frontier" (because EA held the I.P. rights).
Agreed on the fan-made Starflight game; it's kinda sad it got stalled like that... :(
What a blast from the past. I remember playing this game - it was so much fun. I remember having pages of notes full of coordinates for star systems, planets, and worm holes. If you can post some more gameplay, I'd love to see it. Thank you for sharing this great old game.
I'd love to see clips of the original game too ie. starflight one. I remember doing heaps of notes on fluxes and their respective coordinates; legendary game...

You forgot to take pictures of the attacking creature. Pictures have no weight and thus always meet the criteria of the law of chromium.

@JustAnotherMutant Take pictures of attacking creature?

@JustAnotherMutant Is that just SEGA, I don;t notice that feature in the DOS version?!

@HardWarUK, I had the DOS version.

HardWarUK, just data you can sell I'm afraid. That would be a nice feature for a remake though.

I wonder if we'll see a game like this on a phone.

This was a good, yet underrated game. It's a wonder nobody has tried to remake it with gamemaker or something

There's a version for the Genesis. It's pretty awesome.

This must have been really groundbreaking and it is basically what you would want from a game if you liked star trek at that time
