Excellent sports fishermen. Catch and Release so amature like me can catch their babies. Way to keep the sport alive! ThX! Btw, if you use a 3ft eel, would the equation change?
i also like to reel with my left, and i went fishing on a charter out of boston and we boated alot of fish in the twenties, but it was ackward for me when fighting the fish
what rod is that guys? one criticism, is that I think left hand multiplier retrieve is more natural. with right -hand retrieve you are generally using you weaker left arm to do the heavy work, pumping fish, and your stronger arm to wind in!????????????? Why change from fixed-spool principles, where 95%plus fisherman retrieve left hand????????????????????????? guy kept on saying "heart-attack" in video-is this what you will get continuing this unnatural right hand retrieve?
I kinda understand what you are saying. Without a doubt, plenty of fisherman like to use spinning reels, ( I assume that's what you are referring too). But I think you are a bit off base when you tell me what hand of MINE is stronger. Maybe the "Heart attack" quote passed you by. We were goofing around and quoting JAWS. Sorry. We were NOT about to have Heart attacks. The rods were quite soft, we used 30lb Mono. A stiff rod and heavy line will bring em in faster, but with LESS Strikes. contin
Most 50lb class Bass fisherman do not use a spinning reel because you are adding 2- 90 degree angles. One where the drive gear meets the pinion, and one where your line raps around the roller on the bail. A conventional reel removes both. Just a straight line to the fish. Accurate makes left handed models, but I choose the right handed. If you like left retrieve spinning reels, than go for it. Post a cool video, and I'll check it out. Also, the soft rod keeps the fish from spitting the bait MS
Also, I am a bit out of shape so don't tease me, I am sensitive. I'm just kidding, speak your mind! These rods were Penn power sticks, but the new Accurate Xnergy are the BEST, and the are not too expensive. That's all I use now.
drumkeys. whenever i bottom fish, i usually catch nice size flounder with minnows and squid eyes. put the minnow on the bottom hook. use a double rig. i catch around 20-26 inch flounder with them. they love minnows and squid eyes :)
Right now im on a lagoon at my grandparrent's house and its right off of san francisco bay. I was sitting on the back deck and i saw a huge striper swim by, i didnt know there was anything in here. i rigged up a bobber, a 3 foot leader and i caught a small bottom fish and hooked it through the tail so it would swim down... im not having any luck (the whole lagoon is only like 8 ft deep) any suggestions?
Sounds like you have the right idea. Try some cut bait on the bottom. Big chunks on the bottom. 6/0 hook, no weight, or 1oz.. Not sure what bait you have available, but big Menhaden, or Mullet chunks should work. Also chum up the area, if you saw one you know there are others.
those reels sound real nice and smooth. especially afer that big one took a look at the boat. we been into them for a month up here in ny. have they hit your area yet? you guys every try kayak fishing? lots of fun also.
have u ever been to the jersey shore by barnegat inlet? cause i went in november 2007 and there were 25 plus pound stripers chasing huge hering and i was able to get a 17 pounder from using a live herring about 17 to 18 inches long and DAMMM wat a fight that was
Keep in mind, that these fish were all caught on relatively light line, so horsing a 50lb fish in open water is not necessary. Some emails I get are just hillarious, "horse em in" is the general comment, but when I look at their channel there is NOTHING-not a single fishing video???? I would love to know how they boat THEIR 50lber's.
Also, when we release fish that apear stressed, or came off of a long fight, We ALWAYS take the time to revive them for quite a long time sometimes. In cold water, when the fight is quick however, a fast lunge straight down can be the best.
Every fish was caught on a float rig or a split-shot. Actually when we left, we gave our numbers to a few guys that were struggling a little, They came over and each caught the biggest fish of their lives. One guy was from NJ, and the other was from NC. They couldn't beleive we gave out our numbers. With the strong catch and release restrictions in the bay there is no harm in sharing a spot.
Vin, If you can find bait up in those rivers, that should be a great place to start. I'm not familiar with Brooklyn, but I am familiar with bait. FISH UNDER IT.
I have tried everything, and I keep coming back to 40lb Big Game. I like a good shock absorber for when big fish hit. I have experimented with 80lb braid, and wire line, which is fine for a COW CATCHER rig, but the no-stretch factor in braid and wire will explode any "store-bought" rig. With 40lb mono, a boat moving at 2.6mpn by G.P.S. will need to let out aprox. 100 feet of line to go 20 feet deep. However the Daisy-Chains won't go nearly as deep. I like them for surface feeding situations.
Yeah, Eels can be a pain to deal with, but it is worth it. You can hook them in several places, but for the drifting you see us doing here, We use a 7/0 Gamakatsu and hook the eel from the bottom lip out through the top, sometimes through the eye. If you keep some dry rags to grab em' it's pretty easy. Grab em' hook em' throw em' in the water as quick as you can, and they will swim straight down. I have used ice before,(to chill em'out) but melting fresh water will kill them sometimes.-Mike
At the Chesapeake we usually buy from Chris's Bait. They are just over the bridge coming from the south.(Kiptopeake) They charge around $1.50 each. There is another place before you cross the bridge(the name eludes me), but they charge $2.00 each. I have also bought eels near the Bonner Bridge Outer Banks at the fisherman's head quarters, and at a few places in NJ. I don't know what THEY pay, but I know they buy LOTS of them. They are both slammed in the fall. That,s pretty much all I know, Mike
GREAT QUESTION! I only leave the clickers on when I am video taping. This way the veiwer can get a better idea of when the fish is taking line, when we are taking line, and how much pressure is on the fish. With the slow clicking coming off the reel with a bent rod, you know were putting maximum pressure on the fish and not babying the fish for the camera. ALSO it's a great way for the captain to keep tabs on a fish that a crew member is fighting. The clicker can be a great tool. Thanks,MIKE
Fellas, I just got back from snagging bunker in Jamaica Bay and I have to say the I believe this may be an epic year because I've never seen so many bunker in my life. Hey Mike.......I meant to tell you before that the "Jaws" quote is great! Quint is the freakin' man! I was 7 when that movie hit the theaters and my parents took me to see it. Two weeks later we were at the shore on vacation....nedless to say, the water looked good from the beach! I have watched that movie at least 100 times since then. Good stuff man, good stuff.
yeah, jalexander is right, best video ive seen. you guys were tearin them monsters up. most videos on here are about 20 to 25 lb fish. finally see some big ones. nice job.
This is the best striped bass video I've seen on youtube so far. You guys kick some serious ass. I know people who would kill to catch fish like that.
