The fielder is allowed to not only knock down the outfield fense, but to stand on it and make a catch. The fense is fair territory, whether standing or collapsed. A player isn't allowed to pickup and move the fense, but IS allowed to knock it down and stand on it.

According to the score in the upper right, there was one out and a runner on first. The out should have counted. The fielder did step out of bounds after the catch (catch and carry). Runner on 1st should be awarded 3rd base.
