I have one of these. I was in Ontario last Month and worked both Austrailia and New Zealand on 20 watts over 12000km the video of the actual setup is on my channel, I made a few mods ie a Heil 4 microphone and a 2 resistor mod so the SGC2020 works well with the 4 element.
@damianmcsorley Thanks very much for the comment - Sound like you are having very good use out of your SGC 2020 - I do like mine and have used it for many operations and still keep it for fun and backup unit - Some times I drive my Henry 2k amp if other radio is not working and I get about 400 watts or so out. 73 Dave KK4WW
We are in the Appalachian Music community of Floyd Virginia - I am also making a small museum display of some of my computers available to the public in the Village Green. We are on the "Blue Ridge Parkway" & " The Crooked Road - Virginia's Heritage Music Trail" . A lot of good things here - drop in and see us sometime. Also if you are biker this is a big stop over for riders on the Blue Ridge Parkway - Dave
Thanks for the 2020 video. Hope to see some more featuring the rig in cw mode. I had two and always regretted selling them. Just purchased another, obviously 2nd-hand this time. They were primary rigs before and this one will be primary rig again. Sure wish the 2020 was back in production. My FT-817ND is great but sometimes the small size controls are annoying.
@uslines Hi Thank you for the comment - I feel the 2020 is a reasonably good CW rig with the keyer options if you have the DSP installed. I do very little so can't give really expert answer. I did and still use the rig and it has been a good one for me. We used it several times in the 90's in Dominica - mostly with ALS 500 AMP and always did a good job. It is one rig I will not sell. 73 Dave KK4WW PS may want to look at our Dominica videos at floydradio-net

@musketman2008 Hi Glad to know you have one - I would sure hang on to it as they are becoming a real collectible but very functional radio. I still use mine as back up to my regular station and with the little mod I put in I can easily drive an amp if needed. We are leaving on mission trip to Dominica the 10 of Jan for couple of weeks and will be operating as J79WW hope to work you. You can follow our op on twitter-com/n4usa also you can see some of our projects at missiononearth-com 73's
Amazing - This video is growing in views everyday - more as time goes on it just grows - By the way my main transceiver went out and I have been using the SGC 2020 as driver for my Henry 2k -- I get about 400 watts for our 3 times a week schedule. More on FAIRS see fairs-org web site -- keep up the views i like it. KK4WW
@mog2048 I agree it is nice -- It served us well on several trips to Dominica and other operations -- it also drives the Amertron ALS 500 to about 350 watts. I still use mine now and then. I would think someone would be selling one on ebay or somewhere. Why not put wanted ad in QST classified - this may get you one. 73 DL KK4WW
@kd4adv Sure you can put one of these in most any vehicle howevery you may want more power than the 20watts for mobile. I have used mine with a small amplifier with good luck. In fact the 2020 will drive the Ameritron ALS-500 to about 350 Watts. I have used this combo on some of the causal expeditions out of country.
These folks are more in the commercial radio business so this radio show that.. They did sell this as a portable with battery pack for work in oil fields where the distances were great. I could well be some went to the military I don't know that. This is not made any more I think the Yeasue 817 and others put this radio on the out of production list. It is really a great little radio and I have the DSP in it .
Thanks for the reply Dave, id certainly like one for some portable work. At the moment im using a 706 mk 2 but would like something a little bit different to the usual jab black box.
Hi Thanks for the comment - I do like the 2020 and have used it as is and with amp on Xpeditions with great success. Unfortunately they don't make it any more and it is only available on the used market. What is you ham call? Thanks Dave in Floyd
The SGC company does make commercial radios and I do think they supply some to the military as well. This is a good radio for remote locations and to use it with a battery pack. Dave in Floyd
Bought my 2020 with the full man-pack case, very cool. Have excellent reports barefoot on 75 metre SSB The FT1000MP is my main radio, but head for tthe cabin or in the trailer, the SSGC2020 is the one for portability. 73 pete.
Hi Pete: Good to hear from you. We use our 2020 for many portable operations and temp locations. It has served us very well. I always am please with the results. I purchased it a long time ago when they first came out and I learned of it at the Dayton Hamfest. I have the DSP and like that also. 73 Dave KK4WW
I enjoyed the information about the SGC 2020 hf transceiver QRP radio collectable - but you never mentioned the date it was manufactured. I was curious about the age of the radio?

I could put something like that in my 2007 Dodge Dakota.
