Why did The Hurt Locker beat Avatar?

Probably Avatar wasn't that good of a movie. It was nothing more than a high special effects remake of Dances With Wolves and On Deadly Ground. It wasn't original at all.

Honestly, I struggled not to fall asleep in Avatar.

Anyone could NOT have done the same thing Cameron did with that amount of money. Hi is one of the few in Hollywood who really know how to spend that much cash and STILL get a movie with a great story and performance.

It's a fucking scandal that it didn't get more then 3 oscar's. Just like last year when Ledger got an oscar JUST because he died, this year Bigelow got an oscar for Locker JUST because she is a woman.

Jim Cameron is a movie-god and he deseved much much more then this shit....

Avatar will quickly become dated. The Hurt Locker was the best selection and a woman director winning best director was long, long overdue.

Now, let's get a African-American director to win a best director award!

I believe that the Hurt Locker was better as a story that Avatar...

But I cant say it was a better story/movie than all the others on the list.

But it was a good movie, and it had a woman director and so that didnt hurt it being picked to win this time.

Im sure that one day a black director will have a movie that will be good but perhaps not the best, and it too will likely win just for the novelty of being the first Black Directed movie with a chance to win.

It was hard for other black Americans to vote against Obama.

When the first women gets elected Pres it will be hard for any woman to vote against her too.

But thew next time?

Then it will be easy!

Next time a Black man runs for President for whatever Party if will be a lot more easy for other Black people to vote against him based on his political views.

Same with a different woman director at the Oscars next time.

She will be judged on merit.

Avatar was good....not a great story but it sure looked cool.

Hurt Locker had a story where you cared about the events in the story.

In Avatar I just never cared about the people in the story.

I don't see how people can't like The Hurt Locker. So many of the soldiers that I've talked to say it's just like that over there. Avatar is great and all, but The Hurt Locker was just overall the better film
