My below setup is great because when you use the capture card, there is a HUGE delay from the Xbox. So if I hit A on the controller, then five seconds later my character would jump on the computer. The work around this that my friend records five seconds before and after the clip we want, then we just edit out the extras. The TV does not have any delay. I never record any clips using Theater mode. I just move the camera around and my friend records it on the computer.

For anyone who's making machinima, here's my setup. I have a WinTV internal capture card in my computer. I plugged my Xbox's Red + White cords directly into the capture card. The yellow (video) cord is plugged into a splitter cable. One end of this splitter cable is plugged into the capture card. The other is pluggd into my TV. Then I have my friend sit at the computer and record while I use halo's theater mode on the TV.

You know this is not really valid today as many TVs lack output jacks. So you would need to buy AV splitters. Also the Roxio Game Capture in my opinion is the best option to record gameplay as it records standard component video, has built in output jacks, allows you to play in HD and comes with movie editing software better than Windows movie maker. For mac users I recommend you use the egato video capture which is just like the dazzle but with no movie editor (Imovie works great though)

It comes with no movie software and is expensive but like I said use Imovie and the hapauge really pays off. To have it work though you need to either get eye tv from elgato or get hdpvr capture.

@Zekromizbest Only if those clips were rendered and in your fileshare. This is true for your Reach, Halo 3, and Halo 3 ODST profiles. You can render a clip by linking your bungie.net account to your xbox.com, which is linked to your xbox live account, then if you have bungie pro and render minutes, you can render a clip from your fileshare, and download it in different resolutions and qualities. All are compatible with Windows Movie Maker and Windows Live Movie Maker and other software.

You can do something else. If you have an external device, you can get two "spliters" and bput it into the back of your console. Then one to your TV and one to your PC. Do this if your TV has no output and you want to see what your recording on your TV. This is also for games that don't have theater and you just want to get live gameplay. This is my current steup and you can look at my videos and ask if you have any questions.

7:33 if you dont have video out put on the back of your tv ( and lets face it not many new tvs have it) then buy AV Spliters and put them into the red, wight, and yellow inputs on your caputer card then put your xbox AV cables into one end of the spliter that has the same collor as the cable then buy a 2 way AV cable that has the red, wight, and yellow ends on both sides and plug one end into the other end of the spliter and the other into the input of your tv, this is how i do it.
