And gear ratios lower than 1:1 actually multiply torque at the wheels, and that DB2 GSR's YS1 transmission has some of the shortest gear ratios ever sold in the States
No way! this guy just didn't know how to launch that subie...i owned a 98 2.5rs dohc and i beat all the imports within that generation of cars. i beat the civic EX, civic SI, prelude, prelude SH, Integra LS, GSR, eclipse GST, Nissan Maxima, Chevy cavalier and others of the same make i have listed. there's no way the RS was that slow. a lot of idiots don't know how to launch the RS to get the speed out of it. you can't launch it at 3.5 - 4k rpm like fwd or rwd cars.
Like the gsr but that isn't a true 2.5rs. It's a 2.2 L model with a RS bumper which is only fwd. So you showing off that you beat that car isn't saying much lol
@02baruRS Because most people who buy an accord are older... If you meant to insult a car that i no longer own however, that's cool... Maybe you should try raging on a 2000 Prelude type SH instead.
i will give you the benefit of the doubt in a straight line, but do a few suspension mods to a 2.5rs and in its class (NA,) nothing can touch it in auto x, or twisties going through the mountains here in CO.
@02baruRS The 2.5rs can be nasty with some decent mods. Before I got my prelude i was looking at imprezas myself threw me off when i read .79g for the skid pad. I would recommend trying out an SH if you ever get the chance though. It feels kind of like a rwd car around turns.
@02baruRS It's a prelude equipped with ATTS or Active Torque Transfer System. It sends torque to the outside wheel to help the car pull through the turns easier, and help eliminate understeer.
How about the older Preludes with the 4 wheel steering? Those are pretty damn neat. I bet those eat corners like starving kids eat snacks. My uncle had one of those back in the 90's. Beautiful red car.
Not that hard to beat an RS. The 2.5 DOHC from the 90s was garbage compared to other Subaru engines. The 2.2 SOHC had more low-end torque, more mid-range pull, and better reliability for sure. The integra is a garbage car meant for ricers. Plus, the driver of the Subaru in the video needs to learn how to launch. A race with any integra should be an easy win for a Subaru with the proper driver. For christ's sake, I can whoop Integras in my heavy-ass truck. lol
@mexmiler its not that hard but not that easy i would say, the awd does help ALOT but once u hit around 65-70 mph an rs falls on its face, i know from a personal basic, the integra is def junk and unless its got sum mods they dont tell us bout then that rs shoulda walked all ovr that integra
@350V8Michael Well, I don't know if you're racing stock legacy wagons that have the ej22 or what, but my legacy sdn with the ej22 tore straight away from my friends 2.5gt legacy. His was a '97, mine was a '95. Same car, different engines. I held him off till our governors kicked in at 115. Same car, ej22 was better. That was before the headers, exhaust, and intake too.
@mexmiler im srry man but i know my stock 2.5rs sohc boxer engine (ej25) would smoke a (ej22). mostly becuze, well, it has, numerouse times, and my rs is an 2000 and it doesnt shut off. it now only has a 3" catback, headers, and bout 85 pounds taken out of it. i sold my old 97 subaru impreza wit a ej22, and beat em no prob, his car only had an intake, but my car was stock at the time. mayb ur buddie cant drive, cuze the ej22's only got reliability beat on the ej25's
@350V8Michael Maybe YOUR buddies can't drive. The ej22 is a strong motor and several times I walked away from my friend 07 legacy, his is automatic, so maybe that's why, but i've driven both auto and manual sohc ej25 legacies and neither are anything to write home about. Like I said, I walked away from sohc ej25s and dohc ej25s in my ej22, so don't underestimate the ej22, you're probably just racing people who can't shift or grannies.
@mexmiler o and i believe that the 2.5gt legacy engines are ej257's and they mite b a lil slower than ej25's, sohc ej25's really scream, alot more than most scobie engines, the only prob is they blow head gaskets like no tmro, mine is starting to go achully lol
@350V8Michael Are you kidding me? The sohc ej25s are the most anemic engine put in a subaru since the ej18. The power is adequate, but no more than that. Adequate is all. Like I said before, I outran an 07 legacy from a dig and a roll from 50 to 110 in my 95 ej22 Legacy.
@350V8Michael But most older GCs you'll find have over 100k on them so why build that engine? Most swap the non turbo EJ25 out for a turbo'd one or a turbo EJ20..
@iDarksword0 true. mine has 193k! lol and if u turbo em i here from alot of ppl that they just blow, plus swaping is an amazing idea, 1 just cuze its freaken awsome, and 2 cuze the power to weight ratio is perfect, u takr a ver.8 sti ej257 and put it in a rs and u have a 600 pound less sti!, ull b able to smoke alot of ppl with just a stock setup!, and u can find a older gc wit less than 100k, they want a fortune for em lol
@350V8Michael Yeah that's why you swap it with an EJ20T from a WRX. If you do an STI swap though you need at minimum a WRX tranny to handle the increase in power and torque but if you go with the STI tranny you need to upgrade the differential too... STI swap is so expensive
that was a crappy launch for that 2.5rs unless it was a 2.2 or 1.8 dressed up like a 2.5rs, fwd dont keep up wit awd at the start unless that driver knows how to lauch perfectly
@mexmiler ehh, reliability yes, pwr know, more low end tourqe id agree with but not the rest, iv had a 2.2 and i own a 2.5rs and i know my rs with destro a 2.2, wait it has alot of times lol, and thats b4 i but my headers and exhaust on it...
It means it has more potential. You can mod an RS to be quicker than a new STI without doing any major conversions like front to rear wheel drive. And when I say quick I mean quick in all aspects, not just a straight line. However the integra was clearly the better car for this particular race, that's why it won.
@HONDATA24 Yeah, because it's impossible to change a car's rims. You clearly know tons about cars so I'll go ahead and ignore your intelligent comment "just cause is awd dont mean sh*t"
Lets see that race again in the snow, ice, or in heavy rain..or on some twisties. The rs although still really fun to drive wasn't made to have balls off the line but its still a great car. I like Integras too but will always be a Subie fan above all other Japan cars. An rsti would kill a gsr although a modded/swapped gsr would be neck and neck.
You have to be so naive to race an GSR. The RS regardless of the 2.5L engine, is still not enough to carry an AWD car, and it's not a DOHC either. The GSR is way much lighter and the RPM's are higher too. Dun take a 2.5L engine for granted.
The non turbo models were designed to be economical not fast. These base models had to make up for the bad emissions of their turbocharged counterparts (in the U.S. at least) as they companies emissions are measured by total emissions from all vehicles, not by emissions from each model.
In my old EJ1, I had a B16A SiR II and I use to beat WRX's all the time. I wasn't a real race everything on the road kinda guy, but an enthusiast must grip the wheel a few times in his life. Anyways, WRX's are not generally quick
Why don't yah race a 4 door Econo base model Civic vs the RS now that's what I wanna see even the new 4 door Si Vs a WRX Honda just can't afford to put Turbo or some thing in there stock cars.
Right The only car worth competing against the STi would be the S2k and NSX Stock for stock. I'm not a Honda Hater just a Front wheel drive Hater. Peace out
RS is a quick car, the STI has almost the same engine because they are both impreza's. the STi is pushing 300 some horses while the rs im not sure but it cant be far over 200 if its lucky. All impreza's are fast expecially if you know about the impreza being a 4 banger racing they V6 and v8's. all im saying is that the rs is fast too. but i see what you mean.
really? I could have sworn they came with 160hp at the most but yes it is a quick car I agree but never really seen anyone try to race with the stock motor usually I see them with STI swaps
ya they are at 160 hp. Im currently trying to find a 2000 - 2001 rs thats a coupe and manual so i can do a 05' WRX STi swap but no luck finding the car for a decent price.

@jlo1212 highly unlikely. it is a 2.5rs. it's normal that they would lose to an integra gsr. the integra's gearing is what makes it more zippy.

People that do STi swaps into 2.5RS's do the L bumper swap a lot so that it's a sleeper from what I've seen/read.

No one does that. The only STi to RS swap is when we install a front mount intercooler and don't need the air drag of the scoop anymore.
