  • @need2speed94 stock LS2 gto's are more like low 13 second cars but yeah altitude could make a huge(1-2 seconds) difference but you would have to be up in the Rockies or something. The trap speeds (97.2 and 102.2) suggest that some factor was sapping the power because the goat should be trapping around 104-107 and the sti should be around 100-103. Can't seem to find any info on where the test was done though. Some people say you lose .1 for every 600 ft

    The Vauxhall Monaro is also a rebadged Holden

    Vauxhall is British, Holden is Australian..

    The Pontiac GTO and the Vauxhall Monaro were both built in Australia by Holden.

    There has never been a RWD V-Platform car manufactured in the USA.

    The same car was released in Australia in 2001, as the Holden Monaro, 3 years before Holden started exporting them to the USA.

  • Stupid comparison. Similar price and both pack a punch, but one is an import tuner and one is a GT. No one is seriously having trouble deciding between these two cars - if you are going around a track, the STi is a no-brainer. If you want a GT car to enjoy on your commute, it's the GTO. Next we'll be comparing a Bordeaux to a Trappist dubbel.

  • An STI will walk a GTO in anything but a drag strip but who buys a muscle car to take turns fast and practicality? It's all about personal preference, they both have good upsides, AWD for the Subie, and Horsepower for the Goat, now stop arguing which ones better and enjoy good engineering.

  • @RMR12100 actually yes it can , you can control the power of the awd , set it as to be almost all to the back , and with the better suspension , its gonna be a blast to drift. ask ken block( technically it aint drifting but it has the same result) . Gto is a dream car for me though , dont get me wrong , but dont underestimate an sti in any field.

    Unless your commute consists of winding uphill roads, STI's are not comfortable daily drivers. They are loud, have a harsh ride, have cheap interiors, and have annoying understeer.

  • @Armani335i07 Ls3 heads and a nice cam swap into an LS2 and you'll be right around 500rwhp. last i checked, you have to dive into the internals of the 2.5 and forge them before making much more than 450whp with the Subie.

    not hating, i love both of them, but they both respond VERY well to mods.

    The GTO / Holden Monaro was built on the V-platform. That platform was pronounced dead back in 2006.

    The VE Commodore / Pontiac G8 and any other planned variants like the Chev Caprice are on the Zeta platform. Completely different.

  • its a monaro, from AUSTRALIA, that's what it starts as before the design is shipped overseas and becomes pontiac and vauxhall, it has twice the cylinders, almost over 2x the displacement, 1/2 the doors and drives half as many wheels with that extra 100hp, yes they both have their merits but really, it just follows the typical American design principle, rear wheel drive, lots of power, goes good in straight line, the sti has just been designed for more than dragging, its a much better car...

  • Take the GTO's engine and 6 speed and place it in a 1997 Nissan 240SX and it will smoke Vette's. I know, I own one and it's a 11 sec. quarter mile. Add in a custom cold air intake and header with a single exhaust and it's a sleeper to the core. Open it up and then the music begins and everyone wants to know what's under the hood. The entire vehicle was modified to handle to power.......love it!

    Pontiac had fuck-all to do with it. Holden slapped a Pontiac badge on it and put it on a ship bound for the USA.

Throw on alky injection, shorten the waste gate rod and you can get 20# of boost and deep into the 12's. Some light bolt on will get you in the 11's and this is all with 25 year old technology. turbobuick. com check it out
