  • @BoiseState8099 I didn't even know they played Music Videos in the morning.

  • Ah yes this was back when MTV was cool and not filled with a bunch of whiny teens and reality shows! I want '80s MTV back!

  • Couldn't have a more perfect song be the first ever MTV music video.

And such a great song, and what an honor. Too bad MTV doesn't mean shit these days. But back then it was HUGE.

  • The Buggles killed RW SuperStar.

    This is the Best !

    My Favorit Song !

A good Dancesong, better as Hip hop Techno RAP and so.I hate this! I wish we had the 80 s!!

  • I die a little every and each time i play or here this. Seeing this on tv for the first time I was between 8-10 years old. I was so glued to the tube and all its light and animation was be on what today culture can do. It may have been cheesy but it was my time and it didnt suck as today s artist who steals and or buys rights from 80 solo groups. Fucking sad that anything born or done after 2000 is a joke. SAD SAD SAD.

  • This happen the day before I was born I was born Aug 2 of 1981 MT lunch Aug 1 1981 how cool is that

  • this was the first music video

  • Don't know but that's what it stands 4

  • thats what it does stand 4

  • Bring back the fucking music. MTV sucks right now.

  • god bless u man.

  • thank you for this video...i can remember when i saw it the first time...what a new age.............!

  • Thank you, I was sitting in front of our tv from moment ONE as well. Ahh the good ol' days! : )

  • I Want My MTV!!!

  • me too............

  • I was spoiled since I had cable (Cablevision on Long Island) even when I was a little kid (I'm a '77) and I remember coming home and turning on MTV (channel 29) and actually seeing videos, something kids these days have no concept of!

  • Reality and Internet killed a music video star!

  • Bob, I don't think the internet killed it, if anything it's keeping it alive. This video being on the interent is proof.

HOWEVER, reality shows are killing everything. it seems like anything that shows rude, outrageous, shock value content is "in".

I wish MTV would have a MTV channel dedicated to ONLY music and new bands.

  • MTV has that kind of channel. VH1 Europe playing 24 hours of music videos. No reality shows, just music videos with specialist shows containing selections of music videos linked by common themes.

  • IvanDaTerror, you don't get it, do you? People spending their time on the InterNet is proof that they don't care about watching video clips on TV.

  • It's like watching home videos of a long-dead friend--so comforting, yet so painful. What the hell happened to MTV and music?

    I want *MY* MTV.

  • internet killed the tv star

  • This is wonderful.

  • I'm only 17 i love this song. MTV really has died.

  • EVERYONE SING! The Real world killed the video star! EVERYBODY

  • Real world killed the video star

Real world killed the video star

    M-T-V won't give a damn

    Oh-a-a-a-Oh

  • XDD AWESOME!!!!

  • Aww I miss days but now MTV went shit hole reality tv how boring. Too bad TV not good anymore.

  • video killed the radio star was released in 77 or 78 not the eighties.

  • Yes, but it was the FIRST video shown on MTV.

  • Internet killed the Video Star

  • I believe it was Viacom who killed the Video Star with a reality show arrow straight through the heart.

  • hey i was born only 2 weeks after MTV was born thats kinda kool

  • I was 3 years old and 1 month with this TV station was born

  • I was born four years later ~ 1985.

  • Lucky you! I was 18 years and 2 months old when this TV station was born. You wanna trade????

  • funny that this was the very first music video music on mtv

  • it was a slap in the face to radio who tried to stop MTV

  • In 1981, I lived so far out in the sticks that we wouldn't get cable for at least two more years. I hated missing the launch of this channel, but I taped and saved a LOT of early pre-MTV videos on late-night video compilation shows like "Hollywood Heartbeat" and "Rockworld". Check out my page on YouTube and see what you think.

  • My high school grad year and my enlistment into the Army. 1981, what a hell of a year.

  • Oh man the memories. I was watching MTV the day of its launch... Back when the 'M' actually stood for "Music".

  • That guitar at 2:25 is sick.

  • scary to think its nearly 30 years that MTV has been on!

  • yo, why can't they do for one month the 80's format of mtv? it maybe make the tv station better. everybody like stuff retro so why not see it?

  • MTV means 80's! After the 80's MTV went to the dogs!!!!

  • I remember the MTV of the late 80's and it's true, they actually DID play music videos' 24/7 with a few MUSIC Talk shows which were actually entertaining since they included the artist in those shows.

  • Sad that I missed the MTV of the 80s, since I was only 4 at the end of the decade.

  • great moment but not meant to last!!!!!

  • what!? NOT MEANT TO LAST!? How do you figure? If MTV was still how it was when it first started out it would be the most popular channel on tv...besides the porn channels. But seriously, mtv would be way better without reality tv shows like the oc, real world, laguna beach...ALL CRAP!

  • Reality and etc shows killed MTV.

  • That so ironic because Mtv created the REAL WORLD back in 1989(the 1st reality show)

  • My gosh. This song sounds GREAT now!

  • Rap killed the video star.

  • It started to die to me in '97 when 'beavis and butthead' went off the air and then it totally flatlined and the end of '99.

  • And Music Television Died sometime in the early 1990's R.I.P. MTV

  • dang

i love to say this: ONE OF THE BEST MOMENTS IVE EVER SEEN

this is still leaving me questioning though: why is MTV trash now?!?!?! this is not good for future generations at all

    BRING BACK THE 80's! =D

  • even vh1 classic is getting to where i cant stand it. why cant they just put 1 channel to nothing but videos how friggen hard is it. we have channels dedicated to food for god sake.

  • I actually canceled DirecTv because VH1 Classic went to shit. They're ignorant.

  • So now I'm a Video Jockey living the life I love!

  • What I don't understand is... does general public *prefer* MTV the way it is today?

  • Are you referring to the public in general or the recording group General Public?

  • The public. In general. :)

  • What happend to MTV...Its nothing like it was in the 80's. The kids today have no Idea how good MTV once was! They have ruined MTV

  • Too bad I can't give you ten thumbs up for that comment.

  • INDEED!

  • You're absolutely right!

  • what about the introduction of the vjs?

  • reality killed the video star

  • Who knew this started the demise of modern popular music.

  • I want my MTV back. Now it's RTV (Reality TV) and not MTV.

  • I want my Canadian MTV alternative back (Much Music). It's all reality shit like MTV now.

  • Amen to that. I remember when MTV had integrity. Now it's just crappy TV.

  • MTV stands for Music Television? Then where is the music?

  • very cool!

  • MTV SUCKS!!! bring back the music good thing that i have vh1 classic and fuse

  • VH1 Classic used to be good until they did the same thing MTV did. Now if you want to watch classic music videos you have to tune in at 3am or some other dumb crap hour of the day. They just can't leave well enough alone. It's really sad.

  • No, now if you want to see classic videos you come to youtube, lmaoooo. Well, the ones left that haven't been taken down.

  • this was so good now it seems so ANCIENT.. everything after 2001 seems...old after 9/11

    wow

  • I completely agree!

  • You one profound sonavagun pekoe!

  • Classic Retro and loving it

  • fuckin reality tv they should change there name to rtv because they aint giving no fuckin music videos only in the mornings but whose awake thats why im tuning into fuse more

  • Reality killed MTV :(

  • We know!

  • This was the very first music video ever played on Music Television. Vidoe Killed the Radio Star, by the Buggles.

  • correct awesome song.

  • Wow. Video killed the radio star. The very first video played on Mtv.
