I'm afraid that I must agree with the negative comments. The kid has an amazing technique and an infallible memory, but he has a lot to learn about making music, of which there is very little in this performance. The way he's obviously being managed, that's probably not going to happen.

wow... does he know how to play anything besides "showpieces"? Even his Cliburn competition were filled with lopsided compositions: lyrical and flashy. But of course, the judges didn't care cause he was blind.
@MrYou2ber Can you play Beethoven's Hammerklavier? How about John Musto's 'Improvisation and Fugue'. The truth is, Tsujii chooses to play old standards with his own interpretation, and lots of people appreciate that. His accessible music is drawing new audience to classical piano music. If you prefer esoteric stuff, there are plenty other pianists who can do the job, but please don't put Nobuyuki down for doing what he does so well.
@mlliu2006 esoteric? You really need to get your facts straight about what I've said. Tsujii's Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven were all showpieces that legendary pianists have long dominated. It was a shame to see him play those pieces with such mediocrity. Not only that, he failed to show any wide range of interpretations, which the other 2 medalists have done. And don't kid me with your "can you play" this and that, what are you 7? I am enough of a virtuoso to make educated music criticism.
@MrYou2ber Oh so you´re a virtuoso? How come we don´t hear you here on YT? You think you know better than van Cliburn? Who called Tsujii "a gift from God" when Tsujii won the van Cliburn competition? (bet you don´t even know who van Cliburn IS.)
It is now November 2010. I only now realize just how awesome this performance must have been, having attended an awe-inspiring recital of his recently in California that's only about an hour long, and here he played for TWO hours. Nobuyuki pulled out ALL the stops for you folks: the best of his Chopin and Liszt pieces, most from his two Avex CDs released in 2010. I read that Yundi Li also gave another recital days later - I wonder if Nobuyuki was aware of that.
Outstanding performance! Top notch, resilient and astounding! I love that he FEELS IT. Finally somebody in which i am truly impressed with and his expression of spirit and right on energy. Thank you.
Thanks for posting - glad Nobuyuki was a hit in Abu Dhabi. I will be going to a concert in California next month where Nobuyuki will be performing a program similar to this one - am looking forward to it.
He's blind? So that explains all the twitching.

I will not dignify this aggressive post with a reply. There are plenty of people around who appreciate Nobuyuki Tsujii.
