  • Is it too much to ask for this to be played on radio 2. What do Ray Davis's promo people actually do.Lovely seasonal track , never heard it played on the radio once.

  • Reminded me of the evening I shared a pint with Ray Davies in "The Hole in the Wall," pub, London!

  • One of my favourite songs and two of my best of all time singers!

  • Ray has written a lof of this song from his Sisters Rose point of view. She emigrated to Australia when Ray was in his early teens and he missed(s) her. Now listen again and pretend Rays sister Rose is singing the song somewhere in Australia. It makes sense then,, Also when Ray was on tour in Australia he came back to find Chrissie Hind had left him and emptied the flat (tTo the bone?)

  • @davlinful

I am a resident of Australia and that'sexactly how I interpreted this song ever since the first time I heard this song, knowing that Ray had visited Australia and reunited with his sister Rose one year earlier. That reunion must have inspired Ray to write this song.

  • This song made happy and sad at the same time.. It made cry tears of joy and sadness as well.. This is really just a reflection of Ray looking back on his life his youth his love of the past, CHrissy... Yes its beautiful and every Ray fan should see this video... In reflection of his days with the Kinks and the life he lived with all its many colours that painted that life of rock and roll band on the road and the love that Ray cultivated with Chrissy Hynde.. Photos are the memem. of our lives

  • lovely

  • It's actually not intended as a holiday song, but Ray's musing on how the 2012 Olympics will change the London he loves, in terms of the economics and its effect on the residents around the area. He's said he hopes the people can still afford to live there.

    Regardless it's a beautiful song.

  • I would like it even more if I could buy it on iTunes. Or anywhere.

  • i am one of the children singing in this! i was in the recording studio!! it was sooo much fun :)

  • So lovely , I only wish that this would be played on say radio 2 for 50 somethings like me.Thanks Ray , truly evocative wonderful song.

  • Brilliant. Saw Ray peform this at the Festival Hall two days ago. The guy is amazing. Must be the best songwriter of all time.

  • So wonderfully done. Thanks for posting.

  • a classic Holiday tune this has become already in our household....

  • Man,I swear this is the first time I've seen or heard of Ray and Chrissie getting together, since tey conceived their daughter way back when.I think they're both so underated,it"s not funny. Anyway,is there a kinks fan out there whose between 40 ahnd 50 who loves Ray and Chrissie , who want to chat? That would be great,HEY,I get turne d on by anyone who looks like Ray ,now and bacfk in the day,Let's talk,Music people only

  • and ray should have done a fake yank accent here.

  • Another Ray classic.

  • Ray is still knocking out masterpieces I see - hes amazing.

    P.S happy birthday Ray!!

  • How have I not heard this song till now?!? Even if I am listening to a christmas song in June....its awesome! Literally cant wait to see him at hop farm!

  • How have I not heard this song till now?!? Even if I am listening to a christmas song in June....its awesome! Literally cant wait to see him at hop farm!

  • Even we KINKED get old but Ray's hasn't lost his fastball, his magnificent voice and IMHO the greatest lyracist in Rock history. His "permanent waves" are gone and the wrinkles reflect his less than storybook life (3 divorces, 3--at least--nervous breakdowns, constant battles with Dave, banned from the US in the late 60's, poor management and rolling out of the band in the US during the "British Invasion"), So can he and Dave suck it up and do a reunion tour before it is too late!

  • @MegaRussellC ...With Pete's tragic passing, I feel the Brothers D will record something really special by winter. Neither can deny the magic that unfolds when they combine their voices and heart and when I see videos with Ray and Dave beaming at each other with joy, I feel like I'm sitting in their old living room enjoying the Davies' family sing-a-long. Ray & Dave have never sounded better- Dave's "BUG" CD was brilliant and Ray's writing/singing just keeps getting stronger with age. I pray.

  • @MegaRussellC Rigtht on,I had the honour of shakin his hand in Chi-town,last March,at the Riv ,I LOVE that guy, last year, went to Muswell hill hood in the UK,looking for his house, beautiful area,On a hill.Imagine that,Great Italian place right there in city-centre.cheers

  • omg! great memories of london from 1983

  • she;s been living in Blighty long enough maybe she has a fake American accent by now.

  • @PoireauMan68

    hey poireau,

good info is hard to come by, what's your source on her dumping him

i thought hutchinsuch was a rebound?

I mean who wouldn't want to be around Ray for as long as it worked

if only to watch the flickering screen

  • @joerexlily I was talking through my baxside (as I often do) To be brutally honist I dunno whether she dumped him or what but sure enough RAY COMPLEX...must be not so easy everyday. His schizoid cortex gets confused when you say "Ray go buy some milk"...goes off to KONK and writes a song about it instead of bringing back nutrients. Equally she probably would go into one when Ray comes back with his bacon and egg sarnie. They were actually married? she was Chrissie Davies...

  • @PoireauMan68

oh, excellent take, Poireau, what place on globe are you beaming out of...

my foggy memory says he left her at the altar, and said later, it was the worst day of my life no doubt there's a lot of competition for that... hey what would art do without manic depressives whatevers how can we ever know?? I've observed, studied, memorized, brushed by, touched ray for almost fifty years and anytime I think I understand him it passes quickly.... long live ray, he adds to day

  • Just found this .Beautifull , so evocative, in my humble opinion up there with Waterloo Sunset.I hope in years to come this gets the Chrismas air play and recognition it deserves. A true classic. From a Scottish boy with London connections and memories.

  • godda luv chrissie's fake limey accent!

  • It's really an ode to his love and longing for old London. They weren't even in the studio together to record this. A good concept - as usual - from Ray Davies and CH. Couples like this just can't survive - too much space to battle for. Nice song still :)

  • Easilly the most talented couple in the history of music...

  • So lovely! Thank you for posting this -- even if it made me a little weepy.....Love you, Ray, and Chrissie.

  • This is truly vintage Ray Davies: crisp lyrics and haunting melodies.

  • two of the greatest, parents of a child and record, yes

loving each other on their own level

    what's not wonderful about this

just got from ny and I didn't see ray on street

    how disappointing

  • @joerexlily they were only together 6 months...she dumped him for Michael Hutchence...or what is him? argf argf argf...

I wanna start a movement and pronounce the ABOLITION by Christmas/Coca-cola. It's the most useless time of the year wait for Chrimbo 2010...that one's gonna be a laugh.

  • good job Ray, got any rock and roll?

  • Ray is a true classic. Always turning out quality songs.

  • beautiful song

  • A classic when it just came out to the world....!

  • Love this song and same gave me the inspiration for my tongue-in-cheek video: "Postcards from Hopenhagen" posted elsewhere on YouTube.

The KINKS will always be my favorite brit-rock-band all of the day and all of the night!!!

  • Gorgeous ...... a classic! Ray Davies heart is always in the right place. A song to love cherish and embrace.

  • two of the best singers!

  • Thanks for posting

    DEDICATED FAN OF THE KINKS

  • FANTASTIC

    thank you for the post.....

    steve==}}

  • The note he hits at around 2.46 is beautiful. Seems to be the cradle of the whole song. And the sentiment of innocence lost does not seem out of place, either.

  • ray and chrissie great duet...love the song...

  • Great song...Prunejuice...the night before they played the Leroy in '77 they played the Music Hall and I caught that show.

  • great up there with Kinks Father Christmas

  • I remember seeing Ray and the Kinks in Pawtucket Rhode Island perform in the 1970's their now classic rocker for the holidays Father Christmas. Many Years Ray Davies muse has not failed with this powerful new standard that will be played over and over decades from now. The Great Ray and the talented Chrissie Hynde like nothing before. It reminds me of Kink Klassics

  • Ray Davies...the songwriter !

  • just got the album, Kinks Choral Collection. highly recommended........

    this is Track 1.

    London is my home town.......

  • Does anyone know why Ray Davies' touring musical Come Dancing has been cancelled please?

  • @rich88b nope...it wsn't very good the first time round anyway...even the GREEEEEEEEAATEST songwriter in the werld can churn out shit songs it seems...hard to be 125 %...check out Andrew BLOB webber's musical...just bring earplugs along

  • You're so right Mr krankiekat. Such a beautiful tune. So Ray. So great. An instant classic that should be pouring out of radios across the globe. Words escape me. Just let me say "Thank you Ray. Thank you Chrissie." If these two can join together to create something so warm and real maybe there is light burning brighter for all of us.

  • What a sweet song. Just lovely.

  • Maravillosa canción y exquisito videoclip.

    Gracias, maestro.

  • Qué le pide Ray a John Lennon?

    Nada!!!..

    Ray es ENORME!!!

  • Wauw!!! Wat ongelofelijk mooi. Het mooiste Kerstlied sinds Happy xmas van John Lennon. John

  • Absolutely brilliant! Love Chrissy, love Ray.

    Loved them together as well...

Hope it will be in time to chart for Christmas.

    Best christmas song for ages!

    Congrats and thanks.

    Happy Xmas to you all.

  • Quite disappointing.

  • Excellant!

  • Thanks Ray and Chrissie. I love it.

  • Viva el maestro Ray Davies, muy buen músico y uno de los mejores escritores del rock.

Me encantó la revaloración que hace en Postcard from London , al lado de Chrissie Hynde .

    Verónica Jiménez

  • shnootre should loosen up ... this is an older and more mature Ray, its not really about Christmas as its about London....with millions of songs already made by millions of artists, its a wonder anyone can come up with something new and Ray seems to it all the time, God bless Ray and Merry Christmas to all

  • Prachtig nummer.

  • He has done it again. Dreaming of the past as usual but a great song. Hope it vill nr. 1 this Christmas - and the following.

  • I hate to rain on the parade here, but this really isn't a very good song. I love Ray - loved seeing him on his current tour too - but generally expect better from him. (might have been better to let Father Xmas stand as his contribution to the holiday music season).

  • With a song like this Christmas 2009 can't go wrong!

  • Like this - Thanks !

  • I love their voices together.

  • Another great Ray Davies song .

    Happy Christmas everyone

Rock bands come, rock bands go but Ray Davies goes on forever, All day and all of the night

  • great song

  • Just absolutely beautiful...Ray still amazes me after all these years, there is no one like him, no one even close in my opinion, and there will never be anyone like him after he is gone. Appreciate him while he is here. God save Ray Daveis, He's not like everybody else " - Frank Lima, the Montvale, New Jersey Hillbilly Boy aka Dan the Fan in KinKdom.

  • brilliant!!!! Must be number 1 for Xmas!!!!
