  • Anyone who bought one of these back in the day would remember the Harrier sound effects tape that came with it to show off it's stereo sound.

  • hahaha TELL THAT BITCH MOM TO SHUTUP ! AND let u FINISH UR VIDEO

  • I just sold my TPS-L2 on Ebay. unfortunately it was in poor shape and is probably better off being used for parts =(

  • geez.. for a 31 year old walkman that you don't even own that was sent to you.. you sure are smashing those buttons when you got it. I would cringe if that was my vintage stuff I borrowed you and saw you treating it like a $10 whore

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

  • That "My First Sony" kiddie cassette recorder does have two microphone jacks where you can plug in either of these mic jacks and then talk back while playing the music, but your original 1979 Sony very first Walkman does have a "Hot Line" button that talks back too, just like the "My First Sony" did where you can sing along and then talk back as well.

  • The Walkman craze was a great thing. I was 18 and very enthusiastic. I had the Sony walkman FM Stereo radio. It had great sound. And at that time, it was amazing that you could have living room stereo sound (or it sounded that way at the time) while you're walking.

  • lol @ people saying you sound older than you are. Im 18 and love 80s technology. I'm ordering a WM-D3 walkman in a few days and can't wait to listen to my tapes on the go!

  • Lol you do sound like you're probably twice your age.

  • Hey, sony still makes some cassette walkmen, but since they record, the sonystyle website lists them under "voice recorders & microphones". They're in the $30-ish range. However considering that they have several "features" like VOX & a "speed knob" and they're offered for that price, they're most likely DC bias :(

(except maybe the one that costs like $50)

  • I have a 1985 sony wm-11d walkman.. it was my dads he didnt take good care of it but i got it working and it is great... it doesnt play in the left channel i think its the jack but other than that and the missing battery cover it rocks! i later bought a sony wm-fs233 in 2007 and it too works nicely ... i think walkmans are awesome and am sad that they were discontinued.. what a shame.. lol walk down the street listening to ur walkman and watch the look on ppls faces :)

  • Mate Walkman is still in production with Walkman MP3's, CD Players and Cassett players. Look on the sony website, there is tones of them.

  • Although that unit is a TPS-L2, it's not the first TPS-L2 Sony released!

  • Awesome video. Keep on with that good work!

  • Is it possible to plug in speackers into the ear phones jack?

  • Yes, but the amp would not be very loud.

  • Nice video i just got a sony dictaphone that has touch buttons and auto reverse it takes standard audio cassette i'll make a video when i get it. Its very slim and uses a battery that looks like a gum stick. @CassetteMaster

  • @CassetteMaster Using 15ohm speakers this is fine with a 6V copy.

  • ahh the TPS-L2, great machine. got some bad flutter. Throw a new belt in that bad boy and the sound quality will kick ass! For those who don't like walkmans go comment somewhere else!

  • Your taste in music is shite man!

  • Oh by the way I was replying to "mrdarbh's" ignorint comment.

    By the way superb demonstration.

  • I had a cassette Walkman with radio, but now I can't find it anymore!

  • Shut the fuck up. Leave the guy alone if he wants to show off his vintage recorders let him. Prick!

  • @mrdarbh If you like MP3's and such THEN WHY DO YOU WATCH THESE VIDEOS!!!!! If you don't like these kinds of things, stop watching the videos!!!

  • i have a sanyo its my everyday use

  • What camera were you using for this video? It's not your Sony HandyCam.

  • It was a Sony CyberShot DSC-S75.

  • HOW LUCKY ARE YOU!!!!

  • ipod sux xD

  • Yes, the iPod sucks balls, there are better MP3 players, and then there are devices like this.

  • 50 percent off!!

  • i have a coby CXC21 player

  • Arent you a little old to be living with mom?

  • I'm 18.

  • Sorry man, I went by the voice and the HUGE collection of old school shit you have. You sound much older. I apologize for my ignorance.

  • You sound like your 40. Serious...

  • I take that as a complement!

  • O it is a complement, sorry if it came out the wrong way :)

  • If you were one of the cassete generation guys and you still live with your mom, you are a mommies boy...

  • whoa whoa whoa.. dude..never pull the knife towards you! it might slip!

  • Are you using the amplifier with the Walkman? I've too got one. But my Walkman is so small and, I think, it was invented after the Walkman of this video.

But I never seen THIS Walman. I remeber the first Portable Record Player. I'd got it!!

  • Amazing old little jewel!

  • I seem to remember my Dad having a similar Walkman with leather case, although I can't recall if it was blue or not. Great video!

  • That is one beautiful machine. The original Blue/Silver Walkman.

I have a Walkman model WM-FX177 that I bought at a thrift store second-hand for 50 cents. It was made in 1997, and it has an AM/FM tuner as well as a cassette player. It's great!

  • That's a lot of box.

  • lol with that hot line button you could pop in a tape of your favorite music or karoke and hook this to a big sound system and sing along with the music, nice little tape recorder ya got there ricky, and it was nice of AA5R to give it to you

  • That thing is beautiful!!!

  • That's awesome! AllAmericanFiveradio is a nice guy! even including his book :D

  • really cool thanks for showing us

  • Cassettemaster (And the rest of us) would then smash you!

  • YEA!

  • I would then smash your head in for that

  • Walkmans are really good value for money, and extremely good quality shows throughout. Even the plastic ones are built like tanks. Your new found masterpiece is no exception.

I own an old, but somewhat newer 1983 WM-F1. It works very good despite being in a poor condition.

  • Hey, I remember when I posted this!

  • That Hot Line button is genius

  • Well packaged!

Superb. I'd love to get one of those.

  • beutyfull

  • a $50 instant rabate! XD

  • if you haven't told us it was your mom calling for supper, i would think it was something the walkman was playing with a loudspeaker

  • i have a mix tape with copacabana and smooth operator in the same order.

  • cool vid mate

  • ANALOG ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!!

  • That's a great Walkman, i have the first TPS-L2 Walkman without the text 'Walkman'.

    Great movie!

  • definetely , the nostalgia for old electronics, is the lack of quality of today's electronics, saddly sony also has lost quality .... good luck with that walkman.

  • I appreciate seeing an original walkman, but learn how to open a box with a knife.

  • Very nice aquisition! You should place it under protective glass so it doesn't get dirty and corrode. ;) 8)

  • i would have put it in like 15 boxes and made him work for it open first box thers another then second third fourth figth six and on an on

  • "my mom is calling me to eat supper". HEE HEE okay that was cool - but really, how do your parents think about ALL the mass amounts of equipment you have? I thought _I_ was bad with my reel to reel decks, betamax machines and turntables. :)

  • They say there's not enough space, and that's why we got shelves!

  • and i bet your arms are stronger because these beasties weigh what seems like 5 times as much as modern (cheap) products.

  • yeah discorecords I thought I was bad i do have alot of stuff in my room i should do a video maybe since i uploaded the first full talking-in-the-video, video of an ANALOG CASSETTE answering machine, but im still not ready to show my face in a video on here yet, you want to see what I look like add me as a friend on myspace, BUT ill only add you if I know you well enough.

  • Genuine 1979 Walkman - the year I was born! That is definitely a beautiful and well-kept machine indeed. And you're right - products manufactured back then were built to last. Great video!

  • The reason the original Walkman was so well made is because the tape transport came from their Pressman Professional cassette recorder (it was designed for pro use so it was very well constructed!)

  • ABSOLUTELY!!!

  • Hmmmm. I'd like a Pressman.

  • Me too!!

  • Rick, maybe someday, the original Sony Walkman is going to be worth a lot of money.

  • Awesome!

  • WOW, I saw an old dial-tuning TV at 07:21. Do you collect other vintage hardware like that too? Also, it looks like you have an older dual cassette deck too!

  • Ohhhh, I have LOTS of vintage audio equipment!

  • I agree

I still wish speaker stands didnt cost so much..

  • i have that same dual cassette deck. itz a realistic sct-70 from 1984. i have a vid of it. check it out!

  • Oh yeah!!

  • What an awesome find! Tha's really valuable to your collection!

  • I have a Sony sports walkman that is yellow and it is from the 80's and it works like new!

  • You mean one of those waterproof ones? Mine's like that too, it's awesome.

  • I have a Sony Sports water-resistant Walkman with auto-reverse and Dolby. I never did make a vid of it, though. I might make one of it.

  • Very kind of AllAmericanFiveRadio to forward that to you! Great machine. Nice to keep a bit of audio history. The original and the best!

  • Sony Walkmans are the best quality. I got one for Christmas when I was a kid in the mid-1990s, and it still works like new. I still use it all the time.

  • I have a Walkman from the mid-1990s as well. It doesn't work very well anymore, but that's to be expected since I literally played its circuits out. It retired approximately eight years later after enduring several hours of play almost every day since it was bought new.

  • Your welcome!

  • Wow! I've never seen the original Sony Walkman before. It is pretty cool. This was first introduced back in 1979. I was a year old when Walkman's first came out. Great find and it is rare. This was long before the iPod was invented.

  • got a kick out of the high speed. neato!

  • Next time use a box knife.

  • You know that's right

  • Holy crap!! wow. The casing is metal?!?!? Hmm. Aww man, sounds a little wowish. I hope thats the tape.

  • Would be in need of a new belt.
