  • Ah well, at least that hand jive stopped them all from masturbating for a few minutes

  • it was compelling (though cringeworthy) viewing, even then :)

  • omg. that's embarrassing :)

  • Completely forgot about the 'Blockbusters' dance - how perfectly unique.

  • ashley miss bob holess

  • all virgins every last one of em

  • R.I.P Bob Holness.

  • Fucking students...

  • Bunch of arseholes,

    RIP, Bob.

  • God bless Bob.

  • R.I.P Bob

  • RIP

  • RIP Bob.

  • RIP bob holness.

  • RIPBOB

  • RIP Bob

  • I feel sad for the family for Bob Holness. R.I.P Bob

  • Yeah, FFS have a bit more consideration you sad internet twats

  • Stop saying "Can I have an R.I.P. Bob?" you thoughtless spiralling cunts.

  • @thengoto20

    Can I have a "C U N T" for thengoto20 please Bob :D

  • Can I have a R and a I and a P please Bob?

Wish I had a grenade for that gay audience.

  • can i have a r.i.p. bob.

  • HAAAAAAAAAA! the silly bint in pink, 5th one from the left sat down fucks up the hand jive!!!

    dozy bitch!!!

  • anyone who doesn't want to punch those people shouldn't be allowed to vote.

  • miss the show but not that stupid dance.

  • Twats. Mind you students now would be smashing the studio up because they think the world and the government owe them a living. Lazy tossers.

  • @MagicManFan But we know that they don't owe us a living, hence the fact that we pay back our tuition fees when we are earning over 15 grand a year.

Secondly, you seem to be tarnishing all students with the same brush. Doubtless there are some lazy gits out there in Unis, but you try and say that Electronic Engineering, Advanced Mathematics, Physics, English & Philosophy etc. are easy or lazy subjects - all of these, including philosophy, require knowledge of advanced calculus for a start!

  • @AidanLunn *except English, I just noticed that small mistake.

  • @MagicManFan To be honest, mate it just sounds like you're jealous of them being able to make a better life for themselves because you just couldn't be arsed to put the effort into hard work.

It's a common misconception that students are lazy this myth has been pushed to non-Uni students by the tabloids (tabliars) for over 40 years!

  • Very enjoyable. Today it would be taken too far and someone would incorporate it into a daft dance routine or something similar. All the (many!) remakes never caught on, partly because (as much as I hate to admit it) Blockbusters has seen its day; that no one hosts a show quite like Bob Holness; and that the theme music kept being messed around with. Should have been left alone.

  • I always wanted to twat those little snobs

  • @grantg60 They're not snobs they're students!!!

  • @bladesmark1 Totally! They can't possibly have been snobs...it was an ITV show. :p

  • @grantg60 I think you're getting "snobs" and "geeks" mixed up.

  • I literally thought this is what university would be like growing up... hand jiving and bright jumpers

  • Were all these kids let out of the looney bin for the day ?

  • if this lot were the future of the country in the 1990s or whatever. it's not surprisin the country is in the state it's in. fuckin students..

  • What a bunch of complete and utter fannies.

  • You can tell that Bob Holness genuinely loved doing this show. He was perfect choice of host; like a sort of avuncular uncle figure.

  • @pufferfishish So basically the British Bill Cullen.

  • @TenPoundHammer I've no idea who that is... presumably a U.S. gameshow host

  • @pufferfishish You presume correctly. Cullen was a low-key, mellow, avuncular host who worked in game shows from the 1950s to the mid 1980s. In fact, he hosted our version of Blockbusters.

  • @pufferfishish

As opposed to an avuncular figure that was nothing like an uncle?

  • @anonUK ah, so you've noticed that I made a tautology and wanted to correct me, well hooray for you.

  • I've been searching for YEARS to find this! I was absolutely convinced they did this dance at the end of some episodes of Blockbusters, but could never find it! Thanks a mill for uploading!

  • @TheIdentCritic Depends on where you lived. Some regions screened 6 episodes a week (Mon-Sat such as YTV), some 5(Mon-Fri), some 4 (Wed - Sat such as Anglia s they were screening Emmerdale Farm on Mon and Tues 17.15) or even 3 a week (Wed- Fri such as Thames who had Emmerdale Farm on Mon and Tues and could not transmit it on Sat as LWT had the weekend franchise). All regions were at different stages of the show throught it's run. Slots varied from 18.30, 17.15, 15.30 but mainly 17.15.

  • 80's was the era!

  • great music, you'd have to argue 80's TV was a lot more educational and enjoyable than today :D

  • @WhiteKnight402 Same rings true for American TV! ;)

  • oh dear god i am actually embarrased for these people

and the dude in the blue trainers stop tapping your feet to bring more attention to yourself - yes it worked and yes it was bloddy annoying

  • brings back happy memoris when i was watching this as a kid in the late 1980's.

I used to come home from school at 3.30 and watch T-bag, Blue Peter and then BlockBusters.

    Thankyou for posting this!!

  • Now where did I put my machine gun...

  • I kind of wish I can master the hand jive.

  • @c3section

Well, you're on the Internet, so this is the right place, even if not the right site.

  • The music sound like the McGuiver theme!

  • except better.

  • lmao that was fab...80's students, ya gotta love em...these lot and the pensioners in the audience of Bullseye are too funny! lol x

  • that's beyond the pale.

  • oh my god

  • Sad acts...

  • Makes you long for nuclear holocaust.

  • it does...

  • You wouldn't dare try those moves in a club or even to the cheesiest of music!!

  • I did this in a club only last week (very battered) a few mates clocked and joined in. Just with the HOFF there is still a lot of love for the Hand Jive :)

  • You sir are awesome

  • Is it just a coincidence that the front row match the colours of the "Central" logo? Sorry if this has already been noted before, I havent scrolled through past posts :)

  • Its bloody embarrassing looking back! - Although I do love the music!

  • This is so '80s it's offensive.

  • 1986

  • Why do people no longer spontaneously do entertaining things like this on TV shows anymore?

  • Get real, this is so sad its scary!

  • It's meant to be sad - they are taking the p***. So many people don't get that.

  • Lol, are you talking about what they are doing or what they look like. Bcos im talking about the second part of that.

  • Agreed and its clever because its subtle in its mickey taking and managed to get them all on tv.. (a lot harder to do over 20 yrs ago than it is now..)

  • Huh? (Confused American.)

  • Alright mate.. can't really figure out what I was saying! Rich

  • you don't! they are actually enjoying it. and think they are being funny!

  • because they would rather, "Audition," for X Factor in the belief that out of 180,000 applicants they are good enough to win.. i.e. the imagination of the masses has been forced out of them and they no longer set their own agenda - Reality tv is my bug bear!

  • Why did they cater for paedophiles and nuns in the front two rows. Bizarre!

  • That's actually my main dance moves on the floor, it never fails to impress.

  • I don't think you can do that anymore. Those moves are now exclusive property of FremantleMedia.

  • LMAO! Genius!

  • Me and my mate spent weeks practising the Blockbusters hand jive when we were kids! A bit sad maybe but what good times!

  • Thats the great thing about tv back then, it had some originality.. - They were taking the piss.. but in a way that they could get away with.. very clever..

  • I like the way Jive with the snow

  • Any more Blockbusters videos welcomed here on YouTube. Brda

  • They looked a right bunch of sad bastards then and even more so now.

    What were they thinking of?

  • This looks so corney now.

  • This is cool. Any more clips welcome. Brad

  • Enjoyed the hand jive very cool that was

  • Hahahahahahaha!!!! CLASS WAR!!!

  • the colours

  • Bring back Blockbusters. Brad

  • Ah man, freaking memories I tell you. They don't make stuff like this any more, and cheesy or not, it still beats half the crap on TV these days.

  • Brilliant! I remember the sixth formers from my school going on a day trip to watch the filming of Blockbusters - I was 12 and extremely jealous!!

  • I`ll ave a p please bob

  • This is far too embarrassing, I could barely watch

  • YES!!!! I still sit around in lectures bored doing the blockbusters dance. No one else remembers it, but I guess that no-one wagged school as much as me...

  • My god...I remember this...

We had to do it as part of the chorus line in a theatre production when I was a kid...

    Those were(n't) the days!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have a love/hate relationship with it...

  • hee hee ........annoying.....

  • I'll have an E please Bob

  • how corny

  • is it possible to send this video so it can be used in a presentation, presently I can only view it?

  • VDOWNLOADER is your freind

  • Err why would a quiz programme require a Special Effects Technician!!

  • The answer to your question is that the special effects technician on Blockbusters was responsible for the computer boards that made the letters and the gold run boards. There was apparently several ddifferent electric boards that flashed to show the letters.

  • The board (just the one) was a huge thing that took up the whole height of the studio and was made out of slide projectors - one for each hexagon. That's a pretty special effect.

  • @MQsCues I read that in the Blockbusters annual I had! LOL! Why I had it I do not know but it was very funny and oh they showed you in the annual how they filmed the title sequence with the heads and the bit where the thing in the titles goes thorugh a long corridor! What was I like as a child and why remember that? Duh!

  • LOVE IT. Wouldn't it be great if Bob Holdness joined in with The Blockbusters Hand Jive that would be so ace.

  • Apparently he did sometimes. I got some episodes of Blockbusters on vid (sorry, no opportunity to upload them :( ), which I recorded at my host family's place in Leeds, and at the end of one episode Bob joined in with the candidates.

  • Why can't you upload them cos it would be wonderful to see them? Brad

  • Simple, my VCR is broken, and even if it worked I havo no suitable cable or software to record it to my PC.

  • You could buy a VCR that specialises in digital conversion; I saw one at an electrical store and thought "Why didn't I get one of those? It would have been so much easier than carrying my VCR up just to connect it to a computer with a tiny rectangular box..." It's quite small, and I think it comes with its own software and FireWire cable but the three-phono to SCART cable you may have to buy separately. Hope that helps.

  • Useless as it's only for VHS recordings. And why would I want another VHS machine? Surely it's more effort to go out and buy a VHS-digital converter machine than to use an everyday VHS machine connected up to a capture card.

  • I'm sorry, I should have noted I was replying to yoman032's comment. I didn't mean to make it look like an advert. Plus my VCR is fairly large compared to the converter I saw. That darn Youtube...

  • Well you try hauling an old Betamax machine to a capture card on a PC!!!

  • WOW that was really cold I mean cool. Blockbusters rules. I love dong the Blockbusters hand jive so cool.

  • do any of these people have a life?

  • well thats annoying.. lol

  • yeh cool any chance of getting the 1st ever episode with the central intro

  • in response to stevepjk, some of the audience are clapping behind the first couple of rows doing the hand jive. I miss this show so much!

  • The original Blockbusters series started in America in October 1980 and in UK in 1983. Only UK had Bob Holness.

  • Hi Herbert57

Great clip of the Blockbusters handjive where was this episode filmed?

  • It was filmed at Central TV's Lenton Lane studios in Nottingham in about June 1986.

  • Thanks for that prdarby!

  • how the hell did they do that and clap as well?

  • I think it's canned applause.

  • canned aplause over a shot of the audience not clapping, clever!

  • Stupied GITS, thanks to that we never have a clean ending of BB, I think it been done once!

  • Its amazing. Just need a whole episode now. Brad

  • Thanks mate; both videos are brilliant :D hope u add some more episodes; would be brill; thanks again :D

  • Any chance of a whole episode of blockbusters please? This and the titles are fantastic viewing. keep t up! Brad

  • Hi Herbert57, thanks for uploading this - haven't heard the *full* end theme for ages. Do you have the original titles as at the very end of this clip, the Central logo flips similar to that at the start of the titles.

  • Do you mean the opening titles? Should have - I have a load of episodes taped in sequence from when I was a contestant. The flipping at the end is probably the start of the next show on my tape. I hadn't noticed it, I must admit.

Anyway, there seems to be some demand, so I'll wire up the VCR and bung something on. Gimme a couple of days!

  • Thanks :o)

  • Its up. Just click 'more from this user'. If you squint, you'll just catch a glimpse of yours truly at the desk, too!

  • That was absolutely brilliant !That is definately from a series before I started watching. I would guess its pre 1988 ? When I started watching I think the background was bright orange, later changing to blue. Anyone know when it first appeared on the UK screens by the way?

  • Blockbusters started in 1983 and this clip is from 1986. Does anyone have the original opening titles with the spinning hexagons?

  • it started in uk in 1983 hope that answers your question DOND192

  • Yes, perfectly thanks. Cheers for that.

  • SO ANY CHANCE OF A WHOLE EPISODE? B

  • So Herbert57, is there any chance of a few full episodes coming on YOUTUBE of Blockbusters?

  • this is great thanks for uploading
