@MagicManFan But we know that they don't owe us a living, hence the fact that we pay back our tuition fees when we are earning over 15 grand a year.
Secondly, you seem to be tarnishing all students with the same brush. Doubtless there are some lazy gits out there in Unis, but you try and say that Electronic Engineering, Advanced Mathematics, Physics, English & Philosophy etc. are easy or lazy subjects - all of these, including philosophy, require knowledge of advanced calculus for a start!
@MagicManFan To be honest, mate it just sounds like you're jealous of them being able to make a better life for themselves because you just couldn't be arsed to put the effort into hard work.
It's a common misconception that students are lazy this myth has been pushed to non-Uni students by the tabloids (tabliars) for over 40 years!
Very enjoyable. Today it would be taken too far and someone would incorporate it into a daft dance routine or something similar. All the (many!) remakes never caught on, partly because (as much as I hate to admit it) Blockbusters has seen its day; that no one hosts a show quite like Bob Holness; and that the theme music kept being messed around with. Should have been left alone.
@pufferfishish You presume correctly. Cullen was a low-key, mellow, avuncular host who worked in game shows from the 1950s to the mid 1980s. In fact, he hosted our version of Blockbusters.
I've been searching for YEARS to find this! I was absolutely convinced they did this dance at the end of some episodes of Blockbusters, but could never find it! Thanks a mill for uploading!
@TheIdentCritic Depends on where you lived. Some regions screened 6 episodes a week (Mon-Sat such as YTV), some 5(Mon-Fri), some 4 (Wed - Sat such as Anglia s they were screening Emmerdale Farm on Mon and Tues 17.15) or even 3 a week (Wed- Fri such as Thames who had Emmerdale Farm on Mon and Tues and could not transmit it on Sat as LWT had the weekend franchise). All regions were at different stages of the show throught it's run. Slots varied from 18.30, 17.15, 15.30 but mainly 17.15.
I did this in a club only last week (very battered) a few mates clocked and joined in. Just with the HOFF there is still a lot of love for the Hand Jive :)
Is it just a coincidence that the front row match the colours of the "Central" logo? Sorry if this has already been noted before, I havent scrolled through past posts :)
all of these motherfuckers need to be stabbed to death and their heads drilled in repeatedly. they should be made to drink bleach and be cut slowly. FUCKING CUNTS.
Agreed and its clever because its subtle in its mickey taking and managed to get them all on tv.. (a lot harder to do over 20 yrs ago than it is now..)
because they would rather, "Audition," for X Factor in the belief that out of 180,000 applicants they are good enough to win.. i.e. the imagination of the masses has been forced out of them and they no longer set their own agenda - Reality tv is my bug bear!
Thats the great thing about tv back then, it had some originality.. - They were taking the piss.. but in a way that they could get away with.. very clever..
YES!!!! I still sit around in lectures bored doing the blockbusters dance. No one else remembers it, but I guess that no-one wagged school as much as me...
The answer to your question is that the special effects technician on Blockbusters was responsible for the computer boards that made the letters and the gold run boards. There was apparently several ddifferent electric boards that flashed to show the letters.
The board (just the one) was a huge thing that took up the whole height of the studio and was made out of slide projectors - one for each hexagon. That's a pretty special effect.
@MQsCues I read that in the Blockbusters annual I had! LOL! Why I had it I do not know but it was very funny and oh they showed you in the annual how they filmed the title sequence with the heads and the bit where the thing in the titles goes thorugh a long corridor! What was I like as a child and why remember that? Duh!
Apparently he did sometimes. I got some episodes of Blockbusters on vid (sorry, no opportunity to upload them :( ), which I recorded at my host family's place in Leeds, and at the end of one episode Bob joined in with the candidates.
You could buy a VCR that specialises in digital conversion; I saw one at an electrical store and thought "Why didn't I get one of those? Useless as it's only for VHS recordings. And why would I want another VHS machine? Surely it's more effort to go out and buy a VHS-digital converter machine than to use an everyday VHS machine connected up to a capture card.
I'm sorry, I should have noted I was replying to yoman032's comment. I didn't mean to make it look like an advert. Plus my VCR is fairly large compared to the converter I saw. That darn Youtube...
Hi Herbert57, thanks for uploading this - haven't heard the *full* end theme for ages. Do you have the original titles as at the very end of this clip, the Central logo flips similar to that at the start of the titles.
Do you mean the opening titles? Should have - I have a load of episodes taped in sequence from when I was a contestant. The flipping at the end is probably the start of the next show on my tape. I hadn't noticed it, I must admit.
Anyway, there seems to be some demand, so I'll wire up the VCR and bung something on. Gimme a couple of days!
That was absolutely brilliant !That is definately from a series before I started watching. I would guess its pre 1988 ? When I started watching I think the background was bright orange, later changing to blue. Anyone know when it first appeared on the UK screens by the way?
