Yes, he and many musicians were addicted to heroin. This is well documented; you can read more about it on snopes or wikipedia. Drugs and alcohol were everywhere back in those days and people didn't talk about it and there weren't rehab centers like there are now. It is to his great credit that he has gotten clean.

This is the second video I've watched with Sally & Carly together - what is the deal with Sally?! Every time Carly expresses love in any way Sally all but rolls her eyes and says yeah right mom... if she has issues she shouldn't appear with her rather than appear and subtly sabotage the gig.
