I read the book and have seen the movie several times. Sorry, this picture lacks something...a better and prettier actress than Jean Peters (wife of Howard Hughes), creative directing and photography and most of all, a better score. Alfred Newman could have done better, and he did on a lot of other pictures like "The Robe", "Anastasia" and "The Greatest Story Ever Told." This says nothing about his masterpiece, "How the West Was Won."

I was 4 years old in 1947 when my parents took me with them to see this film. They always took me with them to sleep to save money on baby sitters. I must have seen this film over 100 times and I have it on DVD and the sound track on CD. After watching it so many times, I have never found a mistake in this filrm, its perfect. You can get the film and sound track on the internet for a few dollars.
